  1. aaagghhhhh I can turn the headlights off but now the light assist does not work aaagghhhh. even the menu options for "Coming Home" have disapeared from the maxi dot menu back to the garage tomorrow morning
  2. Heres the answer Apparently this "feature" should have been picked up during its inspection at the garage. It is called "daylight lights" and it can be turned on and off by a dealer. Apparently there are lots of other features which are not turned on by default. such as the doors locking once you get to 10 miles per hour (like the new mini, and many Merc's). This is a definate feature on the Fabia or so i have been told I intend to get a list of all the available dealer enabable features. If i do i will post them.
  3. Thanks for the advice Steviec but there is not a setting for "ordiary" lights, however, your advice was useful as i have altered the "coming home" value from 80 seconds to 30 seconds. much better I aslo tried disabling all the "coming home" features but it did not work :( I will pop it to the dealers soon and see what they can do Thanks for all your advice though guys. Steve
  4. Got my new 05 plate Octavia TDI today it has the Light Assist option. With key in the ignition, what ever position the headlight control is on (except for side lights) the dipped beam is on, even in the off position !!!!! Am i doing something wrong or is it a fault.
  5. Im loving Brothers In Arms (on the PC) It is very much like an evolution of Full Spectrum Warrior on the XBOX And yes it is very much like Band Of Brothers, but there’s nothing wrong with that I love WWII games. COD is by far one of the best, if not the best, it is also a cracking FPS and I find the AI of the enemy just about right. I am finding Brothers in Arms to be on a par with Half Life 2 which i also love (if you like Half Life 2, then take a look at FarCry and the up and coming S.T.A.L.K.E.R.) I've just got to the second bit with the tank, im just starting to find it difficult, i wish that it had the traditional PC style save's where you can save your progress at any point. But i guess i will win through eventually, and its always fun to try different approaches.
  6. I caught the front bumper on the rise of a dip while diving down a back alley, scratched the hell out of the underside of the bumper, but it stayed on thankfully. I have heard lots of stories that contain: taxi drivers, speed humps and sumps (no offence taxi drivers) but take solace; I was at the dealers the other day having a general "chit-chat", got told about a Occy VRs driver who hit some scrap iron at speed on a carriageway, ripped off the sump and the gearbox, leaving a huge gouge right down the centre of the underside. Obviously a write off, but after much arguing and tooing-and-frowing with the insurance company and driver, it was repaired at great expense (in excess of 10k), and to the dislike of the garage. Apparently it had a few rattles when he got it back Sorry if the owner of said Vrs is reading this.
  7. Kevin, I know it is a bit off subject, but since the roads in Cork have been mentioned, how are you getting on with the new KPH speed limits over there in Cork ?
  8. Whoops well spotted Wouldnt it be nice though
  9. Huray I have my Octavia back at last, 3 weeks,
  10. I have now seen the metalic beige on the new occy and it looks as good, if not better than it does on the front of the brochure. I would have gone for black but the roads where i live are very muddy and i do 20k per year, i dont want to wear my elbows out cleaning the thing. I prefer most of the Audi colours, i have seen a few new Audi A4's etc and they have some lovely colours.
  11. I got a Vauxhall Meriva as a courtsey car, I have driven it to Stafford and back today (160 miles) and let me tell you i am shattered, What a horrible piece of engineering, the most uncomfortable and unlikable piece of plastic and metal i have ever seen. To be fair, i can see some benefit in having 60-odd combinations of seating positions, but as the driver i would like to have arrived home tonight relaxed, not aching and stiff (and no i am not an old man) The switch gear is awfull too. On the plus side the 1.7 TDCI engine is quite nice, lots of tourque all the way through the revs and it red lines at 5000 rather than 45000, first and second gear are a little short though I want my Occy back !!!!!! (with blue lights)
  12. Can you send me some blue lights please
  13. Driving instructors take note, more roundabout practice please When i was learning to drive roundabouts used to scare me due to the volume and speed of traffic already on the roundabout, but you get used to that, however something that is hard to get used to is some one cutting you up to make a hasty exit, or someone coming around the outside at speed while you are trying to exit.
  14. Got a car sorted, looks like it may be a New Mondeo, I will let you all know my impressions, May go lorry hunting in it tomorrow Norwich Union, Drive Assist and Nation Wide Repair Centre (Boston) have all been excellent, hats off to them. The car is being picked up tomorrow by Nation Widr Repair Centre and a courtesy car is being provided by Dirve Assist tomorrow too. So no car tonight, looks like i may have to go to the pub I willl let you know how the repairs go.
  15. I thought the driver of the lorry was going to have a heart attack, he was not a well man. A witness jumped out of her car and had a bit of a go at him, though he was going to keel over. The repair garage can only provide a Corsa and they don
  16. My beautiful car :( I will keep this short, the photos say it all Approaching a round about, lorry to the right indicating right, I am going straight on, lorry cuts corner, i think you know the rest.
  17. I too have to order a new Octavia for 05 I am relly struggling to choose a colour, My current octavia as "Stone Metal Gray" (metalic pastel blue ish), i would like black but as has been mentioned before its a devil to keep clean, If i get siulver it will fade away in the complany car park. What is everyones opinion of the gold (Metalic biege) ? and the dark gray ?
  18. I have had the same problem for 2 and a half years. The only solution i have found is to put a liberal amount of antibacterial washing up liquid in the washer bottle and top up with water. Spray till it comes through the pipes and then leave over night. I think the problem is that the washer bottle is 5.5 litres rather than the usual 2 litres (i think) so it goes stagnant while it is in the bottle, i have a lot of black "scum" inside the washer bottle, but it is not easy to remove (the bottle or the scum) And incase you are wondering, yes you can mix washing up liquid and windscreen wash without the car exploding. but be warned, washingup liquid freezes (goes thick) quite easily, so pleanty of winter windscreen wash. I have top do this every 3 fills of the washer bottle, else i dare not wash my windscreen if i have passengers !!!! I am getting a new Octavia in March and intend to only use the expensive stuff freom the garage, then if it starts to stink again I can blame them. And for those of you who have not test driven a new Ocatvia yet then you know what you should be doing this weekend. I popped into Albar Autos in Mountsorel and they just gave me a 1.9 TDI Elegance for two days. as a side note, i drove a 19 grand Golf on Wednesday and a 14.5 grand Octavia on Thursday and they drove the same except the Octavia had more toys !!!!!! and is bigger..................... SOLD !
  19. I have an 2002 1.9 TDI What does the plastic 'thingy' do below the accelerator pedal, it screws of very easily (curiosity got the bertter of me) and i can press the pedal down further if it is romoved (haven't yet looked to see if it makes the car any quicker) Any ideas anyone?
  20. I have done 46k in my 02 1.9 TDI Elegance and have had 3 sets of tyres on the front (gonna need another set soon) and one set on the back. The second set (Avons) on the front lasted 7k, turns out the tracking was screwed by the mobile tyre company. I spoke to a taxi driver who said that they get about 15k out of a set of fronts due to all the town driving they do. I do a lot of motorway miles and a lot of country road driving (on some really sh!ty roads) but this still seems quite soon for a set of fronts. May be i should get some lighter shoes. (also had a set of disks and pads on the back)
