  1. mine was just starting for about the last half a dozen times then tonight nothing, this spate of cold weather we are getting is going to find a lot of weaker battery's out and the cost to replace them is unreal and not only the cost of the battery then you need to pay some one to re code the car. all the other cars i have owned over the years and there has been a few you just fitted a new battery and away you went lol. and from what i have been reading you need to tell the flaming car its got a new battery fitted so it dont throw a hissy fit lol thats my little rant over suppose i will just have to follow the advice the guys on here are kind enough to give me kev
  2. can anyone advise if my battery is scrap or could it just need charging up ? it is a 2013 2.0L 170bhp 6 speed dsg with stop start not been using the car much at all, noted a week or so ago that the stop/start was working intermittently then stopped all together and when starting up (cold mornings) starting up on second crank instead of 1st shore enough went to start it tonight and nothing just a click, tried to jump start it with my daughters car and jump leads still just clicking only tried it a couple of times and pulled the jump leads of i was in a bit of a rush so decided to use her car and try to sort my car out tomorrow. a mate of mine borrowed me one of these small battery telling me to connect it up leave it for 5 mins and it will fire it up ? a couple of questions am i ok to do this? is it best the put the live on then put the neg on the earthing post? if this works would the battery be ok with a good run on the motorway ? or is the battery fubard lol? if the battery is fubard would i be better off replacing it with a stronger type of battery ? if i do need to replace the battery will i need to get the car re coded ? i would be great full for any help iam a bit long in the tooth now, and all the electrics on these newer cars are are bit to complicated aim shore that it isn't just me that is getting left behind a bit cheers kev
  3. thanks for replies lads i will have a word with him see if he as done anything !
  4. cheers dean i will tell him! why would there be so much pressure building up in the tank its actually spitting fuel out even with as little as a 1/4 of a tank ? there is no way he can find out if its been re mapped or what ever but saying that he as just told me his mate has got a 2002 mk1 vrs with the same engine code AUQ box standard and it ant in the same league as his estate it, so me thinks something has been done/ cheers kev
  5. hi lads, just seeing if you vrs mk1 octavia lads are as helpful as the superb lads lol! my son in law has got a 2003 mk1 vrs octavia estate engine code AUQ with 147,000 on the clock that has now developed a problem. right this is the story i was given lol he as owned the car for ruffly 2 years + he was never told when buying the car if it had any mods done ie re map or internal engine work done, but it has got a strait through stainless exhaust a k&n air filter NGK coil pack leads and plugs dump valve + some kind of performance clutch. a couple of months ago it stared loosing some power when booted it drives perfect up until it gets warm then the loss of power miss fire and popping and spluttering starts he then started to realize there was a buffing noise coming from the tank so he took the filler cap off and it released a load of air and spitting fuel out of the hole if he left it running the buffing noise and fuel would carry on coming out only when he shut the engine off the pressure would dissipate he could get back in the car but would do the same thing again once the pressure had built up again. any advice i would be grateful kev. sorry for the long winded post, thought if you have all the details you would be in a better position to give advice!
  6. thanks chaps always willing to help! cheers kev
  7. can anyone recommend a good engine oil for a 2013 2.0tdi 170bhp 4x4 dsg i am finding it a bit difficult to find the right one, i am looking for a (fully synthetic 5w30 low saps 507.00) but the oils i am finding seem to be mid saps and i was under the impression i would be better putting a (low saps oil) in not a mid saps ? any advice lads! cheers kev

  11. here is a pic of one of the wheels i only took a picture of one wheel as they are all in the same condition ! cheers kev
  12. thanks lads i will put a pic up of the wheels tomorrow when light apart from some brake dust and the inner wheel being a bit grubby they are in parity good condition with little to no kurbing so considering how long they have been on the car they ant bad! i just wont to give them a good clean before putting them away for a phew months cheers kev
  13. so is it a none acidic type of wheel cleaner i need? i thought they where all acidic type to get the brake dust and crud off i just thought there where different strengths ? cheers kev
  14. can anyone recommend a good alloy wheel cleaner please? i have a set of 18'' graphite alloy wheels on my superb i was told that they where bought from skoda as an up grade and where bought as they are and haven't been refurbed so was thinking of puting an old set of steel octavia wheels that i have in the shed, i know they wont look pretty but it will keep my alloys in good nick not having them on the car for the winter. so i was thinking of taking them off giving them a good clean and put them away for the winter. i have used wonder wheels before, i was hopping someone could recommend a good product that i can clean the brake dust and crud of the wheels with and put them away for a phew months? preferably something i can spay on clean with cloth or brush then rinse off? cheers kev p.s the reason for asking is there are that many different products on offer i wouldn't know where to start lol
  15. right ok i will have a look what price they are ! cheers kev
  16. rrrrrrrrrrrrr ok thanks again i gave my new car well new to me, its first long run yesterday covering nearly 1,000 miles motorway first long distance run i have used it for since buying it a week or so ago and it past with flying colors ! i know nothing about how the dpf works and when it would do a re gen, is there no light that comes up on the dash to tell you when it is doing one or when it has finished doing one? with my car doing so many miles yesterday and getting good and worm would it have done one with out me knowing ? or they just do a re gen when and if it needs to be done? what sort of temperature would my engine oil get to on long motorway runs? cheers kev. p.s i only found out yesterday when playing around with all the buttons i had a bit of time to kill why sat in front of the steering wheel for a few hours lol i can check the oil temp ! coolant temp right in the middle never budged off that
  17. thats great exactly what i needed to know, thanks very much to everyone for the advise just one more reason for coming back to a skoda the forum members are more than happy to help if they can thanks again kev
  18. couple more questions if you dont mind! how many miles is it between cam belt and water pump change? i dont think there is a service schedule for the haldex and filter clean, but how many miles is advised between service i.e new oil and the filter type thingy cleaned ? any recommendations on miles between auto gearbox oil and filter change? many thanks kev
  19. cheers ? i take it dont have that feature then
  20. thanks to everyone for the advice much appreciated ! kev
  21. cheers bud! that is what i would have put in my self just thought i had better ask just encase there was a reason for the last owner using 0w30 and not 5w30 ? i have been using 5w30 fully synthetic low saps for my last 2 or 3 cars a didn't know if there was a reason to use 0w30 on this engine cheers kev
  22. sorry if this is in the wrong place, feel free to move it if so, i have a Columbus head unit in my superb and i am trying to get to grips with all the features it has, can anyone tel me if i can get the sat nav on the Columbus it to tell me when there is a camera coming up and to avoid toll roads and congestion charges like i could with my tom tom ? cheers kev
  23. thanks for reply lads, looking through the paper work the haldex was changed 24,000 miles ago, how often dose the heldex need looking at? it has been getting serviced every 5 to 6 thousand miles, which is the exact same time as i service my cars, so happy with that. i have only had the car for a week or so and iam really getting on with it, i am enjoying driving it and already prefer driving it over the car that i have just sold cheers kev p.s what speck engine oil will it be ? the reason i ask is the previous owner has been using (fully synthetic 0x30) but i have always used (5x30) on my cars!
