  1. Joke works team Renault following the lead of RBR this week. That is: If you're not quick enough or reliable enough, protest the teams who are. FIA investigating Racing Point design specifics after Renault protest. They have even asked Mercedes to supply the relevant parts from last years car for comparison.
  2. And it was all Golden Boy's fault. Wrecked both cars 30 seconds into the race. Maybe Sainz wont have too much to worry about when he moves there.
  3. That's more like it from Ocon. Russel starting 11th too. Great effort. I am wondering if Perez gambled on a full dry setup for tomorrow? All about tyre strategy now. They can all start on anything they like.
  4. Saturday morning F3 race red flagged due to weather. Will it dry out enough for F1 running?
  5. That may be the grid if it rains too much to run qually. Both Albon and Hamilton in car handling trouble today, but Riccardo even worse off after crashing his Renault. Can't wait to watch F1 at Mugello!
  6. Not to mention that works French team based at Enstone. Although their engine department is in France to be fair ( unlike Mercedes whose engines are British too)
  7. Alonso's comeback at a so-so team. Whatever happens it can't possibly be worse than Mansell's😀 in '95.
  8. ...and if he is now that clever a driver, was his Q3 mistake, running in front of Hamilton, really a mistake?
  9. Mercedes(Wolff) stated that they considered it but as pointed out by @Wet Kipperit was too complex a scenario given the issues with the cars and everyone else being on fresh rubber. Interesting that Bottas did a really slow penultimate lap to push Hamilton down to 4th place though. Clever.
  10. I don't believe Vettel would have considered Renault. Would Mercedes take him over Bottas? Probably not on current form. I think Vettel's only hope of a decent drive could be if this year's RedBull doesn't improve quickly enough and Max does a bunk to Mercedes as a result.
  11. I am completely amazed. Its not a top team now. It isn't going to be a top team in the near/medium future. What interest could it possibly hold for him unless he's skint. I reckon Renault is about 5th or 6th fastest at the moment and has not really made any progress since they re-purchased it in 2015. It was actually far more competitive during private ownership in 2012 /13 than it has ever been as a works team (since Alonso's 2006 title). Kimi and Romain gained 24 podiums over 2 seasons including 2 wins!
  12. Alonso set to be announced at Renault for 21 & 22. :0
  13. Jordan out of BTCC as of last week Plato/Jackson out of 2020 season.
  14. Bit of a stretch calling a New Zealand founded, Bahraini owned race team British, but I suppose they still enter under a British flag. As opposed to British based Mercedes and RBR which are entered as foreign teams.
  15. Toyota got thrown out of the WRC for years for cheating the engine regs. Ferrari, not even a slapped wrist.
  16. Data about engine performance. Did Ferrari cheat last year? Gains/losses for Austria qualifying vs 2019 times: Racing Point -0.921 Williams -0.737 Renault -0.493 McLaren -0.473 AlphaTauri -0.360 Mercedes -0.323s Red Bull +0.038 Haas +0.619 Ferrari +0.920 Alfa Romeo +1.119 #F1
  17. What was it a 1.07 or something? These hybrid cars just never race flat out do they? Pole was a 1.02 I believe? These guys have for years now just been driving for tyre life. Anyone on fresh tyres at the end can have a pop at FL - even the Williams and Haas can lap at 1.04.
  18. Since they are way faster than RBR they might well go for mediums in Q2, assuming the same tyre compounds are available next week.
  19. Given that RBR have set the precedent as to how this season's gonna be, I'm hoping to hear of a Mercedes appeal. After all, Hamilton had full lock on and so couldn't go any further to the right when Albon ran into him. (according to Toto). But on a lighter note, as they say in Eurovision: Red Bull - ZERO POINTS And currently sitting last in the constructors for good measure.
  20. Yes wasn't he bloody awful, trundling about at the back whilst Daniel was challenging for decent points . 8th out of 20 (with 9 retirements) is just not what Ocon is supposed to be about.
  21. So @BigJase88 how about that? 😄
  22. Yup. It's going to be a season of protests 😟
  23. Very much tyre dependent. In 21540 17 I've driven grippy but harsh riding & noisy Dunlop Sport Maxx, less grippy but still noisy Bridgestone RE050A, and smooth quiet and expensive Conti Premium contact 2. There are lots to choose from at tyre reviews UK. Scroll down to Tyres by Size. Pick 215 40 17 and see all the reviews.
  24. It's certainly got potential to swing the race away from Mercedes, especially if there's a safety car. Indycar races are often completely shaken up by the 2 different tyre compounds. Wolff's team may have to split their strategy to guarantee that one of them will beat Max.
  25. Just checked the times. RedBull over half a second off pole looks like an utter disaster to me. If they don't close that gap quickly, Max's new long term contract won't be worth the paper it's written on - especially with 2 vacancies currently at Mercedes for 2021.
