  1. I was hoping there was just a bulb change possible using the existing ballasts. Long shot I know but would be nice to have longer lasting bulbs.
  2. I've seen a few people in here saying LED are significantly better. I really struggle at night with lights especially as the roads are full of other xenon / led users. I guess I'll see how I get on, I loved the xenon's on my Volvo and missed them after switching.
  3. Just wondering if this is possible? My car has bi xenon with afs. Wondering could I just change the bulbs and retain function.
  4. I only wish now I'd posted for some advice on dealing with them before committing. I fioolishy presumed a main dealer was different to a small independent. Hopefully it will all turn out ok in the end, it's a nice car and I suppose all used car purchases have their issues.
  5. As Sasha says it's a comprehensive spec bought by someone who like me loves options I guess: Columbus, kessy, park pilot, park assist, dual xenon's with led running lights, led rear lights, lane assist, adaptive cruise, folding mirrors with puddle lights, black front fogs, auto lights wipers, variable boot floor, privacy glass, heated half leather (cream) light assist, full beam assist and probably more I've forgotten. I'm happy the car is worth the extra 2k over book price I just wish we felt like our custom was appreciated. I think I showed my hand to early but as they were so reluctant to send to us in the first place I didn't have a lot of choice. I guess at least I have a year to find any problems (presuming the warranty is worth a damn) I'm new to car dealers having always bought private so it's been a valuable lesson for me.
  6. I should have taken you with me Sasha, I'm useless at haggling. I tend to do the British pay up and shut up thing. I just want a safe car for my kids with no big bills in the first few months.
  7. Quick update, still not got the car. It failed the MOT on a CV boot and two tyres advised as near legal limit. Paid for it Monday but have been told I won't get it until at least this Friday as it's getting some scratches on the rear bumper repaired. That will be 11 days since I paid in full (is this normal?) The wife had to phone today to find out what is happening as I was out and we had not heard from them since Monday. Had to check online to see if it had even had an MOT as not informed. Still no mention of the geometry being looked at even though the tyres were so bald. Looking at old MOTs I am a bit concerned as there seems to have been a lot of problems with tyres and suspension over the years. The whole experience so far had me worried I'm being too soft and should maybe cause some fuss. The salesman has a real knack of turning my concerns into me feeling like I'm over reacting.
  8. My old golf 1.9tdi has done similar for years. It started after I had a new Dmf fitted. If it goes when the clutch is depressed on shutdown it may be the same as my golf and what I presume to be the DMF. It's never caused any issues for me in 60k miles.
  9. I'm about to pick up my used Octavia in Corrida red. In the past I have always stripped old wax with a strong washing up liquid water mix, them clay bar, then autoglym super resin polish followed by bilt hamber double speed wax. I'm guessing things have moved on since I last checked and I know red paint often oxidises in the sun. As I live near the sea in Cornwall we also have salt and the elements to deal with. Can anyone advise a long term paint care solution. Thanks
  10. Thanks Sasha, I'm going to have to do some retrofits, having lots of toys has its downside if there is nothing to mess with. I'll start looking for the seats, hopefully being cream they will be less popular. My missus has legs like a crane but still insists on having her forehead on the windscreen!
  11. Saw that post but I can see specifically what I would need from that. There few posts that end with no real conclusion.
  12. I'd like to fit seats that have the memory function, if possible key activated and moving mirrors too. MY wife will be sharing my car soon (if she's passes test) and it's going to be a pain adjusting seats all the time. Does anyone know what's involved? I have kessy, heated seats and folding mirrors if that matters. Cheers
  13. I'm a Scouser, when I talk to my car it's locking wheel nuts tighten and the radio pretends to be broken.
  14. Looking in the net it's a problem thought the VAG range, loads of Mk7 golf, Leon etc with the same problems . There is a TSB pointing to excess flux as the cause https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByxgazxO4YLZV0hyTm1OVm1tNE0/view TS-80-15-04.pdf - Google Drive
  15. I think yesterday morning I made it pretty clear what I wanted done. I will say I wont be accepting it unless it meets all the expectations of the approved used program. I think unfortunately I am a useless negotiator and I gave away too soon that I really wanted the car. I could point out I will be contacting Skoda UK should it not be in the condition I was promised.
  16. I wish it had been that easy bud, I initially went to look at another car which was sold. The salesman tried to get me to buy others but in the end said if you want to look at cars within the group we can get them moved for you. I found this car in Somerset and contacted them and was told they didn't move cars at all although wanted to talk about finance and me collecting from Somerset. When I said it was a cash sale and I wanted it moving to my local branch the salesman got shirty, I got angry and ended the call before I told him where to go. Angry having spent a few weeks looking I went back to my local salesman and he agreed to get it moved if i paid a £250 none refundable deposit, not wanting to lose the car I agreed as I was sure I wanted in (within the skoda approved used comfort blanket) Once it arrived I spotted the tyres and the salesman was pretty much saying they would sort this that and the other after I had paid which i did in the end. They were not even willing to send it for an MOT until I had done so. It has to go in for some touch up on the loading lip section of bumper and I asked for the kerbed wheels to be done and a small ding in the rear door. I get the feeling the salesmen were annoyed as I refused to finance even though they tried to convince me to with why don't you just get finance then pay it off etc. I really have had enough of them and just want the car right, I don't expect perfect but i don't expect to have to spend another £1000 if the cambelt and waterpump is overdue, it needs new tyres and a full alignment. I do get that 10k isnt a huge amount for a car but its a lot of money to us . I have always bought private in the past, this has been a bit of an eye opener to me, i frankly expected more from a Skoda dealer and obviously am paying a premium versus private. Unless things change I'm not sure what I am paying the premium for,
  17. The tyres on the inside are completely smooth, there is no tread in that section at all. I have asked that they sort out the geometry too as their is obviously a problem. Looking at the old MOT history online it has failed quite a few times on tyres and front dampers. The salesman is a typical slippery geezer and dismisses everything with "yeah, don't worry if it fails the MOT we will sort it out!"
  18. Mine has a great spec or would not have paid near 10k for a 2013 tbh. It has Columbus, kessy, dual xenon, adaptive cruise, lane assist, park assist, half leather, folding mirrors with puddle lights, auto lights / wipers, dual zone climate. Heated seats and 50k miles.
  19. Ok so if garages suddenly decide that they will only pay 42p for them then all of a sudden that's what they are worth? Garages are not the only buyers of cars, a car is worth what someone us willing to pay like anything else.
  20. The only MK3 Octavias I saw for that money had had high miles, were private sales and either shabby or cat rated accident damaged. I looked at loads before buying. Them price guides are nonsense.
  21. Has anyone with a corrida red estate had the roof done in gloss black. As my car is parked under a tree I'm thinking it might look good and save my paint from birds and sap. I'd like to see pics so I can see where it should be wrapped too? I'm guessing to inside the rails. Does anyone know if the headlining needs to come down to remove the rails?
  22. Total price is £9495, I thought the approved Skoda thing meant it should have up to date service history. It's all paid for now, dealer wouldn't budge on the price but says the cambelt was done in 2017 (possible waterpump failure?) Until I see the history I won't know, not yet had access to it. It's in for an MOT today I pointed out it had totally bald front tyres on the inner edges, the dealer says if it fails they will change them. Starting to wonder if the approved means anything at all... If the spec wasn't so high I think I would have walked long ago. It's been a struggle from the start dealing with them.
  23. On my old mk ii Octavia and golf disconnecting the battery (absolutely essential anyway for safety) before removing the airbag stops any airbag warning lights.
  24. Cheers, I think I'm gonna push for it. Its only a £10k car so expecting some small issues but can't stomach a big service bill right away.
