  1. Dartmoor also confusing, use to be national limits and then the made the whole moor, all 365 square miles, 40 mph with villages eve less. Ahh the old days of maxing out across the long straight road wondering if a sheep or horse was going to run across. Why did got make sheep fog coloured ? Speeding way in non Urban areas are just distant memories, sensible I suppose.
  2. I am from Devon. Lived on Dartmoor (the big moor not like the other two smaller Bodmin and Exe moors) so know a bit about it though if you want to realize space try Canada for size. You get your 5p off a litre. Not sure about your 50 miles as I cannot think of anywhere in North Devon that is more than about 20 miles from a town such as Bideford, Okehampton, Tiverton etc. Government biuld the North Devon Link Road, with its auto ice sensors. Good news Noel Edmunds has moved out towards Bristol from North Devon.
  3. Is the post Covid world needing personal cars ownership or is the hire when needed model more likely to be the future. My company tried this in Paris with some success and as a Civil Servant they seemed to be favouring this model. When many of us now are only doing tens of miles a week on average is it really worth it ? I use to reckon that using a car much less than 10K miles a year it was worth reviewing and I have suddenly gone from 30k miles a year to about 5k miles a year. Maybe that will change when most of us have had the Covid vaccine but probably not fully now were are use to Teams and Zoom etc. It would be nice to hire a Model S now and then rather than just drive a Skoda and have it one the drive. One of the new 2021 (Feb) Sanderos, based on the mark 4 Clio, looks good to me though I would like the auto though need to check the CVT against the EDC/DSG. All the cars I need and at half the price of other brands.
  4. In Germany doing 200 or 250 kph on the autobahn is just a trip to work whereas in the UK it could result in prison driving that fast. No wonder it is not much incentive to buy are car or motorcycle than can "ton up" in the UK. As ex-Department of Transport I appreciate roads have design speeds and the UK has road pollution issues but some relaxation of speed limits ie 80 mph plus 10% plus 2 mph ie genuine 90 would be nice in good conditions on certain UK motorway at certain times.
  5. Finally an estate, good value and and good range. https://mg.co.uk/mg5-ev/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIs-PFjICl7AIVh6Z3Ch1TuANpEAAYASAAEgJ-kvD_BwE
  6. Could well be a 2 tyre stop at least....... https://maxf1.net/en/2020-tuscan-gp-preview-first-f1-race-in-mugello/ In terms of minimum starting pressures, Pirelli prescribed values for the front tyres for Mugello between those for Spa and Monza – 1,725 bar – while for the rear tyres they allowed lower values than the previous two tracks in Belgium and Italy – 1.4145 bar. The reason is that the Mugello puts a lot more strain on the front tyres because there are no slow corners that heavily strain the rear tyres at high accelerations while in terms of camber Pirelli allows the same values as in the Monza: -3.00 degrees for the front and -2.00 degrees for the rear tyres. 2020 ITALIAN GP – MINIMUM STARTING PRESSURES AND CAMBER LIMITS (1.794 bar / 1.4835 bar) LAST F1 VISITS IN MUGELLO Before the start of this season, Ferrari completed a test with the two-year-old SF71H in Mugello, while it was not yet known that Mugello would be part of this year’s calendar, and the last test involving all teams (except HRT) took place in the May 2012 where the fastest was Grosjean in Lotus with a time of 1:21.035. Webber then said that 10 laps on Mugello means like 1000 laps on Abu Dhabi in terms of driving pleasure while Vettel added that it is a pity they do not have Mugello in the F1 calendar because it is an amazing track with a lot of fast corners.
  7. Mugello, hard on tyres (?) , have a look at this....... The Ferrari seems to takes the first few corners a bit easy before going for it for so. Mugello weather report..... https://www.google.com/search?q=mugello+weather&rlz=1C1GCEA_enGB765GB765&oq=mugello+&aqs=chrome.2.69i59j0l4j69i57.4555j0j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 17°
  8. Maybe to be more relevant to road cars. Almost zero suspension on the mini like an F1 car, deafening as had to keep the revs very high but only 32 hp if I remember my numbers. Good for 80 mph straight or corners. Huge fun. Crap brakes though.
  9. 2022 now I gather. 1 or 2 seconds a lap slower but that should narrow over the next year. Did not have that effect on my mini 850 going from 10 inch to Imp 13 inch low profile tyres.
  10. I am not sure why tyre companies do the F1 supply gig. Seems to be a bit of a no win. The cars may only weight about three quarters of a tonne fully loaded with fuel but then have to withstand 5 G plus and speed running over 350 kph, be interesting to see what speeds the F1 cars do as the bikes hit 357 down the pit 1.14 km straight. Remember debacle at Indianpolis F1 in the banking section where the F1 tyres could not handle the loads compared to the Good year Indy car tyres, we ended up with an F1 race with 6 cars. Let see how the F1 cars go on 18 inch wheels instead of 13 inch mini wheels.
  11. In Lewis own words he said he was struggling...... The tyre temperatures were slowly dropping. No matter how much you were pushing, you lose rubber and then you start to lose temperature in the tyres, so it was a bit of a struggle." https://f1i.com/news/382195-hamilton-admits-he-was-nervous-about-tyre-wear-in-spa.html
  12. Eh, last 3 races the Mercedes have various issues, tyre issues 3 races ago, nervous end at Spa where thy suspected tyre issues and Daniel was getting very close at the end and picked up fastest lap and much more difficult over-taking at Monza compared to their previous to this trio of races, long may it continue to make good watching. Nice summary...... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TB5yhZdF8SI
  13. It certainly is a complex subject. Across the Finish line and in sectors 2 Lewis was not top dog but his lead gap in Int 2 is relatively massive. I enjoyed the F1 race and hope the mixing up of front runners continue though the second half of the season and we get some some good viewing. Red flag did re-deal some a bad hand some a great hand, just hope it evens out over the season for fairness sake.
  14. Got to feel sorry for Max ? I thought his RB had an engine issue so he was told to stop, not that it was looking he was going to score many if any points. Presumable RB got the down force wrong as well as Mercedes did, ie bottled it by putting too much on which condemned them not to be able to pass other cars down the straight very easily. The Honda engined Alpha Tauri of Gasly seemed be flying around the track along with the Mercedes engined Racing Point and the Renault engined McLaren so that points to a too conservative race setup suggests to me.
  15. I am sure Carlos, Lando and Daniel were trying super hard as was Lewis and 13 seconds was the result of a Mercedes running well in clean air as it was for Carlos, what I am saying is Lewis seem to have little to no hope to get far enough ahead to make a pit stop and still come out in front of the Renault power McLaren. Mercedes is still the quickest car for a Qually lap clearly and if it stays out from in the first part of the race can build a bit of lead. Fortunately for those of use who want to see some racing, like we enjoy in motorcycle racing, we are pleased that things are much closer. Also that Mercedes seems to have Achilles heals in both tyre longevity with higher pressures and following other cars where overheating and even passing down the straights seem to be issues. Hopefully next weekend circuit and some of the others to come will give us some actual racing rather than the all to common processions of the hybrid era.
  16. I think we can conclude that the Merc is fine if it qualifies on the front row and stays out front. Hamilton could only manage to grow that lead by 13 seconds after 20 laps behind the Renault engined McLaren with another McLaren is only 4 seconds behind that. If he had pitted, with Monza having a 25 second put lane dwell time Hamilton would have come out behind several cars and of course we all know the school boy error of entering the pit lane when it was closed. Very bad day for many No 2 drivers, Bottas, (OMG), Perez, Ocon and Albon who all seemed to have issues passing even when they appear to have faster cars going by qually. Very happy next Tuscany GP which those of us who follow MotoGP know and love with it 1.14 km straight and the bikes hitting over 350 kph on the kinked straight. More racing like last weekend but perhaps less of a lottery on the safety car incident which was a bit of a crap shoot.
  17. Italians rescued some pride from the unlikely source of ie Alpha-Tauri, happy for Gasly too. Mercedes next slowest cars on the straights after Ferrari and Williams it appears. These were the Qually speed trap figures, even with Drag Reduction it looked painful for the Mercedes to pass even with the half a second a lap quicker lap-time with their more downforce. More like this please, sprint race, reverse grid etc like other series like to see. Is Kimmy using the old illegal Ferrari engine and nobody told them ?
  18. Raise tyre pressure and less fuel, just a 2 psi rise and 10 kgs less would seem a much more level race as we safe in Silverstone, Spa and hopefully Monza today. I believe F1 should set an example and like roads burn less fuel, get better at energy recovery, go 4 wheel drive, given women more chance to drive which would mean more power assistance, Bottas sounds like he is suffering from leg pump or some issue with that 100 kg plus force to brake in the last 2 races. Great to see most of the British based teams doing so well, which include McLaren, Mercedes, Renault, Red Bull, Racing Point compared to the 3 non-UK based teams.

  20. Monza, along with Baku, have the highest longitudinal G forces ie the have the heaviest braking and G force from braking and the parabolica has 5G lateral G force for longer than any other corner in the world I would have thought with the exception of 130R. Low drag, low down force is offset by the higher speeds providing up to 5Gs even on these lower down force Monza wings. Let us hope for some dicing rather than the far too oft processions but then one can flip over to World Super bikes at Aragon if one gets bored with F1.
  21. Tyre pressure, over-heating and blistering will occur after some lap on the Merc so we will see how long the Merc last on those soft tyres as we have seen how hard the Mercedes is on tyres. Really thought they were going to try and take pole on the mediums but clearly not confident enough to do so. I do not thing they have the pace over the Renault-McLarens to get a 20 second lead at Monza before the soft disintegrate on the Mercs. Entertaining it was although scary also. Slipstreaming and attempted passing in 2m wide open wheels cars looks well scary compared to motorcycles. Renault powered McLaren was 0.8s off Lewis very good recovery after having, by his standards, a poor set of practice sessions. After Renault best point score ever in its long F1 career last week lets see how those Renault engined cars do tomorrow though I was disappointed Ocon only got P12 at least they can choose to start on the medium tyres so might jump up a few places after the first pit stops and then can go on the softs after that, another 24 points, including fastest lap, which Renault powered cars are making a habit of in the race, would be very nice. Hope McLaren do well of course, Sainz said nice things about the Renault power unit in a post qually interview. 1 Lewis HAMILTON Mercedes1:18.887 6 2 Valtteri BOTTAS Mercedes+0.069 6 3 Carlos SAINZ McLaren+0.808 5 4 Sergio PEREZ Racing Point+0.833 5 5 Max VERSTAPPEN Red Bull Racing+0.908 5 6 Lando NORRIS McLaren+0.933 6 7 Daniel RICCIARDO Renault+0.977 6 8 Lance STROLL Racing Point+1.162 6
  22. True pace starting to emerge in P3. Hamilton does not seem happy with the Merc, tyre pressures too high for his driving. Qually going to be actually entertaining for a change it is shaping up.
  23. Briatore was a Benetton franchise holder in Italy, an "interesting" businessman who Benneton liked so I presume they saw he would be a magnet for the business even though he was not a racer, or failed racer as in Toto's case, not sure who make the best team principal, a mixture of many skills I guess. Symonds was a aero specialist, man management clearly questionable !
  24. At least one ie Melbourne with Ricardo where it was pretty marginal and from what I hear this is what Ferrari have been guilty of last year but somehow miraculously get it buried even though they have had to redesign to stop their, aledged, plenum chamber cheating to circumvent the flow meter.
