  1. European Car of the Year ie Renault Scenic order by me. Out of sync with most Scenics bought I have gone for the 60 rather than the 87 kwh model. Already been made in factory and shipping today to Bristol docks. Good discount off retail, thanks Startin.
  2. . DC chargers use lots of power to convert 3 phase AC to DC which must add to the price ie the circa 10% loss has to be paid for and operator will no doubt. Wonder what device they would use to measure kwhs ?
  3. odd one is it not as so many chargers and not many people there so is it the model of charger or power to the site ? Surely cannot be the site and the charger should be supplying very close to 50 kWs with the Mini's max speed and only 37% SOC. Odd one. If I was there with the Zoe I might change to the AC charging as it would probably be cheaper and not a whole lot less slower ie hopefully 22 kWs and saving many pence per kWh.
  4. Links above do not seem to pull in the Eu legislation but here is another link... https://ec.europa.eu/commission/presscorner/detail/en/ip_24_3630 Perhaps BYD, Geely, SAIC will now target UK market far more as it currently has not got these extra duties, except Northern Ireland which is effectively part of the EU of course. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Today, nine months after the initiation of an ex officio anti-subsidy investigation, the European Commission has imposed provisional countervailing duties on imports of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) from China. Based on the investigation, the Commission has concluded that the BEV value chain in China benefits from unfair subsidisation, which is causing a threat of economic injury to EU BEV producers. The investigation has also examined the likely consequences and impact of these measures on importers, users and consumers of BEVs in the EU. Consultations with the Chinese government have intensified in recent weeks, following an exchange of views between Executive Vice-President Valdis Dombrovskis and Chinese Trade Minister Wang Wentao. Contacts continue at technical level with a view to reaching a WTO-compatible solution, which adequately addresses the concerns raised by the European Union. Any negotiated outcome to the investigation must be effective in addressing the injurious forms of subsidisation identified. The individual duties applying to the three sampled Chinese producers are: BYD: 17.4%; Geely: 19.9%; SAIC: 37.6%. Other BEV producers in China, which cooperated in the investigation but were not sampled, are subject to the 20.8% weighted average duty. The duty for other non-cooperating companies is 37.6%. Compared to the rates pre-disclosed on 12 June 2024, provisional duties were adjusted slightly downwards based on comments on the accuracy of the calculations submitted by interested parties. All the detailed findings of the investigation are reflected in the Implementing Regulation which is now published in the Official Journal. These provisional duties will apply as of 5 July 2024, for a maximum duration of four months. Within that timeframe, a final decision must be taken on definitive duties, through a vote by EU Member States. When adopted, this decision would make the duties definitive for a period of five years.
  5. The link here is for the Northern Ireland customs tariff for electric cars ie BEVs... https://www.trade-tariff.service.gov.uk/xi/commodities/8703801010#import_duties BYD extra duty is 18% I recall up to and at first read a month ago it looked like SAIC and others not named were going to get hit with the full to get hit with the full 38% additional CV duty. This is on top of the 10% normal customs duty. All countries being monitored to detect circumvention. The company I have recently joined is the largest mover of finished cars in the world, they move several million a year. I see Turkey mention which is where BYD is rapidly building a plant as well as hungary I think I read. Audi and VW mentioned with joint ventures. 6. We are supposed to keep broad alignment for the Trade Cooperation Agreement to work. the UK is oft 0.5% duty rate lower than the EU for many commodity codes, some we zeroed but where they were sub 2% anyways. With cars we may have a Joker to play ie UK uses right hand drive cars whereas most the EU uses LHD cars, Ireland being the exception. As long as Ireland stop any flood of BYD, Geely, SAIC, TESLA right hand drive cars flooding the 26 counties. Reminds me I must check the Northern ireland Tariff for its rates on Chinese EVs.
  7. Get them before uk is forced to match EU extra import taxes. Irish people may wish to get their rhd saic cars from the UK and import and save some money, especially if a few months old. Get them while you can at low prices !!!
  8. More cheap public chargers needed ie at these super cheap home rates, even 10p a kwh would be great and popular I reckon.
  9. lol-lol replied to Gaz's topic in Briski Bikers
As an ex H 1 owner, and GT 380, I can say triple two strokes have a special place in my heart. Would love to find a S2 350, or H2 two stroke too.
  10. Octopus Energy introduce new tariff which can charge an EV for 6.5 pence per kWh ie well less than 2 p a mile for many EVs. Gridserve, the charging network at the motorway services, finally introduce an App and give 20% discount for first 90 days. Some reckon the reduction will be permanent and with upcoming price wars we should see prices 60p per kwh or less and with more Tesla chargers access to charging at 30p to 40p at many Tesla chargers at all put peak times. The future looking rosy.
  11. It's flame red, don't think it is metallic. Daughter no2 has a clio in similar colour, ten years old and still looks good. Still does over 60 mpg on a run, little turbo petrol.
  12. Getting closer to getting the European/world car of the year ie Renault Scenic. Oddly to many probably going for the smaller 60 kwh battery rather than the 87 kwh. Flame red is a free colour, fair reduction with Renault and local dealer contribution and choice of either 4.9% Apr or 0% with big deposit. Aiming for sept reg. Tried one in Alpine spec but seats were not that great imo. Displays etc awesome.
  13. I know Arnold Clark are a big group and the most profitable which should be a bit of a heads up. They have some dealers in Brum but here in the area below Brum it is Bristol St and Renault Retail which people often forget or do not know exists. Buyer beware. These companies often make more money on the finance than they do on the margin of buying in and selling on. Use Car wowow, autotrader and other similar sites I recommend and look at service comment. the smaller dealership chains are usually better the big ones I have found.
  14. It is hard to imagine any mainstream car not having some hybrid, either full or mild. It is such a cost saving tech, despite what Davetakesiton say who clearly has not fathomed.
  15. Being a thermodynamics nut I a constantly scour the road conditions and other vehicles, it becomes a in journey game to maximise the mileage, looking for the aero tow for that transit van that is doing the sweet spot of about 65 mph, looking for the stickers that say 70 mph, or 68 mph or similar on the back of the vehicle. Bit sad I kn ow but it keeps me amused and sharp during the journey. Some disappointment is that I rarely get to public charge ie 4 times in nearly 20k miles despite doing 200 mile round trips. Zoe is the queen of long distance EV trips, not the quickest to charge via DC, one of the best by AC if you can find 11, 16 or 22 kW AC. I will miss the Zoe when I trade it in within a few months for the Scenic, still split on whether to get the 60 kWh or the 87 kWh version, the latter being an easy well over 300 mile range EV, heat pumps as standard, predictive preheating of battery to get maximum charge rate, it will deprive me of one of my favourite games. I see TESLA owners are being offered 30 to 50 mile range extension by having a BMS update, $1000 in the US. worth a thought for most I suppose. TESLA just raised prices in EU to counterbalance new import tariffs, UK model 3 SR+ still just under £40K RRP.
  16. Zoe has realtime Google maps updates and this is good for most charging stations and even if they are being used and not currently free to use. The exception seems to be the TESLA public all vehicle can use V4 chargers like the ones at Lifton Devon on the A30 do not seem to show so clearly but hopefully that will be fixed soon. His route seems reasonable and the Tewkesbury to Coventry a bit different and would suit the Zoe quite well for eco driving. THE ECO button is right there on the centre console and puts one in the 5 miles per kWh. Like any auto it is overridden in kickdown and one soon get to 90 mph if one wants to and then take the foot off it rapidly drops to 60-65 and manging several systems to minimise energy consumption. Just like any EV flipping the regen from low to high can make a big difference though I now prefer the megane/scenic system of 4 level of regen via the paddles. 10 minutes of research can save one half an hour to an hour even on a three hundred mile journey. Shame he started with only two thirds or so of a full battery.
  17. In summer and driving fairly non hypermiling 4.5 miles per kW is entirely about average ie ambient temp 15C or more so the Lion has its best capacity to give, I get close to 5 miles per kWh with my experience in driving the Zoe, getting 5 miles per kWh is quite hard to do but I am happy with near 5. Shame he did not start with the usual 80 to 90 % which would have got him to Exeter no sweat. With the battery at over 90% one cannot get the full regen ie up to 30 kWh to go back in to the battery on any of the junctions or big rolling hills sadly so not the best of starts to be given the car with only 71% SOC, I would have been disappointed. I thought Cornwall had come right into the 21st century with several multi charger sites come on line in the last year including Cornwall service and even TESLA v4 sites such as Lifton with 16 TESLA v4 charges usually charging 55p per kWh rather than go on to Okehampton, one should try and stay up to date, a stitch in time saves nine the orc should learn.
  18. Mr Head went to Okehampton it seems, less than `100 miles from his starting location in Cambourne and moaned the rapid DC charger was out. he said he left with 165 miles range, which sounds low, and more some reason, perhaps driving like an idiot, did not make it to Exeter where there are dozen of chargers, only about 25 miles plus much better facilities. Not sure he went from Gloucester, if he went M42 that does not sound the best route, I would have gone M4 and then A34 maybe or Maidenhead up to Beaconsfield or lots of other route ie through Aylesbury or cutting cross country ie not so much motorway, EV drivers with an ounce of sense use Apps such as a Better Route Planner to optimise rather than AA/RAC route-planner or the like. My Zoe uses the 16 inch wheel option which has a "cold" presume they mean ambient, lost in translation, wheel/tyre size and the nominal ambient/cold tyre pressure ie 38 psi. They creep up in temperature when driving to 40/41/42 psi as they get to that body temperature of around 40C. Air acts as a semi-perfect gas and for each 10C rise in temperature the air pressure rises by about 1C. I could get the crappy Conti tyres on the Fabia VRS to be too hot to touch so switch to Mich PS which were much better. Renault advise filling tyres to up to 0.3 bar above "cold", ie ambient, many cars would see around 40 PSI when well warmed after a spirited run and or high load. TESLAs set their car tyres to be advised to fill up to 3 bar or even 3.1 or 3.2 bar which is 43 to about 47 psi and they get great efficiency and I have not seen issues with bulging and running low on tread in the centre of the tread not did I running tyre pressure around the 40 psi mark, ambient. Renault advice assuming tyres get about 5 psi hotter when tested noty cold..... https://gb.e-guide.renault.com/eng/Zoe-ph2/TYRE-PRESSURE Most import matter with tyres, I believe, is buying good one ie A wet grip rating and changing them with 3mm of tread on them. Just put Toyo Proxes Conform on from of Zoe after about 17k miles, seem good and half the price of Mich eco tyres ..... https://www.tyrereviews.com/Tyre/Toyo/Proxes-Comfort.htm
  19. 165 miles range is about the worse I have seen in mid winter and normal range is 200 miles to 240 miles. He left Cambourne and should have easily made Exeter services which has dozens of chargers. He must be a combination of one of the worst drivers and journey planners. Zoe seats are not the best for 250 mile drives, two hours is enough for me and if I am doing such journeys would use the Arkana but the Zoe battery range, if driven with any intelligence, one stop for charge, if about 45 mins should be fine for Camborne to Corby. Optimum cruise speed is about 64 mph, can be put in eco mode and the range will be 200 miles plus in any season. Make sure tyres are all over 40 psi, relax and chill and one can make good headway. Guy is a click bait idiot.
  20. We have seen pictures of the Hindenburg airship disaster but is it that much more difficult than LNG like many Dacia are fitted with as a dual fuel ? Yes hydrogen is the most leaky of gases due to the smallest of atom size but insurmountable problem with today's tech ? Already a few cars out there Hondas and Toyota I think I have seen. Even as a EV fanboy I can see merit in propulsion fuel diversity.
  21. Indeed. The giant company Air Products behind it. Thought they might be in to producing hydrogen by using excess wind energy maybe rather than extracting hydrogen from ammonia.
  22. I hear there will be something in the Humber region as well. Using offshore power to make the green hydrogen and operating in the Humber Freezone to benefit from those economic conditions. Some of the hydrogen will go for export probably but some could be used for local transport and industries. Still see big issues for distributing hydrogen and the lithium et battery powerribf of vehicles is just stronger at such an fast rate ie rapidly improving energy density and lowering of costs, despite EU/UK tariff measures in the industry, I do not expect Hydrogen to challenge Lithium etc batteries for overall transport supremacy as the power of economic choice.
  23. Indeed, quite a small number compared to dozens of other models which sold in the tens of millions. From and engineering stand point it had crude suspension and mostly poor engines. 3 litre ones particularly, joke, last model ie 2.8i, made sexy on The professionals a fair swan song to a very poor model in Ford's line up.
  24. The Crapi was always crap. Sharing the same running gear as the Cortina, as these there is a good song about the Cortina by the TR band. Joke suspension, poor engines as standard, maybe the 2.8 I was not half bad. Use to enjoy blowing Crapis in to weeds in Doly Sprints and my Opel Manta was a much better car as were various Alfas and other machines. Now a rwd Escort or Cosworth something to respect. I like modern sports coupes but these new capri looks and sounds like something very bang average or worse. Use to be buy a Ford if you cannot afford, or have the imagination, to buy anything decent.
  25. Not here, still just under £40k so what's that, about 43k Euros ? RHD models might expect to be about 6% more expensive due to lower volumes of sales and therefore higher tooling and production costs due to the lower production rung, according to a big 4 accountancy firm pronouncement sine time ago. We should be seeing base model 3s for less than £38k I reckon but when, only when sales start to dry up I suppose.
