  1. If I'm not mistaken, the radio code is permanently written on the radio side and it's stored in the EEPROM of the car's instrument cluster when you first install it (or by the factory). You will only need it if you replace the instrument cluster (or if you buy another radio of course). The dealer can generate the PIN code from the SKZ number on the radio label.
  2. Yes they will. All faults are recorded by the corresponding control module so they will be able to verify your story. And in any case, you should report the fault beforehand so that when it happens again they will have already a history in their logs. My advice is to go to the dealer right away.
  3. My guess would be that the Instrument panel is malfunctioning. The immobiliser device is built into the instrument panel hence the engine dies shortly after it starts. You should be able to verify with a VCDS cable. Take the car to the dealer as soon as you can, instrument panels are expensive to replace!

If we suppose that the update really rectifies the problem without any trade off, then VAG can succesfully argue that there is no need to compensate a customer that has denied the update, so no need insist on it. If we suppose that the update does not really rectify the problem or there are serious trade offs (mentioned above), then VAG cannot escape giving compensation, so no need to insist on the update either. In any case I will deny the update if I'm given the choice. I don't believe we 'll ever get any compensation for the cheat, but I don't want them to mess with a nice working (albeit non emission-conforming) engine.
  6. Why would VAG actually want anyone to make the update? Isn't it an extra cost for them? I mean, yes, they are obliged by court decisions and the like to provide an update and inform the affected owners of it, but why would they insist on it?
  7. I always pull the handbrake with my fingers parallel to it, using the edge of the palm to press the button when I want to release. Works a charm! However, I have yet to see a passenger buckle up with the first try.
  8. I have the 1.6 TDI some 20 months now, I have done about 13k miles, so far so good. I would suggest you to go for the TDI if you have a heavy right foot. The TSI burns a lot of fuel when pushed. Do aim for the highest trim, as Rick said. Oh, and bear in mind that the 1.4 TDI is a lot different from the older 1.6 TDI. I haven't driven the former, but I think that the 1.6 TDI is a proven good workhorse (minus the dieselgate scandal hehe).
  9. EDIT: I assumed that only the indicator glass is broken and everything else (mirror, mirror housing etc.) is intact. Also, I noticed the Skoda price is very low, you might want to go directly to the dealer for a quote.
  10. It's the same part with the Toledo and the Fabia, p/n 6V0949102 for the right side. You can find it on ebay, it's cheap.
  11. Assuming you have tried hard reset and it did not work, try upgrading to 5238. You may need to reinstall your maps.
  12. If it isn't a case of a loose connection or something like that, they will probably replace the instrument panel altogether.
  13. The H3 Buzzer and gong is a part of the dash panel insert. Either it is wrongly coded or it has failed. If you have (or can access) a VCDS cable do a scan for errors and post here, else you will need to go to the dealer as suggested above.
  14. Not so easy. It's easier to route the dashcam power cable to your fusebox, and then use piggy back fuse to draw power from an existing switched fuse. This way you'll keep the cigarette lighter unoccupied.
  15. It depends on how much will it cost to you. It is difficult to replace the DPF in our car due to its position near the engine, so it will cost you more labour. If your mechanic has the proper equipment, he may be able to clean the filter without prying it open. However, after reading again your original message, I believe that these 45 grams are soot rather than ash, i.e. they could be burned off and reduce to ash. The car's ECU prevents this as the soot is too much now and the filter could catch fire. There have been reports of users removing the DPF and then heating it to 400 degrees for half an hour to burn the soot, then reinstalling it. Discuss with a reputed independent VW mechanic about your options, the dealer can only replace the DPF with a new one.
  16. In ascending order of effectiveness: a) Clean the old DPF. Needs cutting and welding. Will clog again soon. b ) Get a new DPF. Costly but is the factory recommended method. c) Gut the old DPF. Needs ECU reprogramming, passes optical inspection. You'll never worry again, you'll get quite a few Nm's and bhp's but also more noise and exhaust soot. d) Get rid of thr DPF (and possibly the EGR) altogether. Needs a downpipe and ECU reprogramming. You will be fined if caught. Results slightly better than c). I would probably go with c).
  17. Is the boot closing properly when a door or a window is open? When the cabin is airtight it's more difficult to close any door so a little more force is normally required.
  18. I am really worried about countries (including my own) which are sweeping their dirt under the carpet of cheap oil. How hard will they be hit when the barrel returns to its usual $100 levels?
  19. Islam is more than just a religion. Just like Christianity was before the Enlightment, it is a way of life. A way that is vastly different than the western one. As a result, muslims are much more difficult to integrate in our western societies. Rather, they are usually sidelined and form the lower social class of the host country. During prosperous times, their problems are well hidden, but in our present troubled times some of them can be lured to radicalisation. My view is that multicultural societies are a mistake - especially when there are so great differences between cultures - and these attacks highlight the mistake. Now, it's too late to undo it, I don't know what can be done. France has more than six million muslims, Germany more than four.
  20. Yes, sorry for not reporting back, I forgot. I was right, you have to go to the Adaptation of the Instruments and find Display correction of consumptions and operating range from the list of adaptations. Then change the percent from 100% (default) to the desired value.

  23. If I'm not mistaken, you have to go to [17-Instruments], then select [Adaptation - 10]. Somewhere in the list of adaptations there will be an item related to consumption. The default value is 100%. I think you raise this value if the computer is optimistic. I'll have to check and get back.
  24. As with all cars, the trip computer is optimistic. Mine is off at about 5%. You can, however, adjust it with VCDS.
  25. With VCDS you can disable both HHA and Start-Stop functions. Unfortunately DSG is a hardware feature and can't be disable with software
