  2. As we have had a bit more time to look into this issue since it first started appearing, I have some more information that you may find interesting. I actually think the main reason all manufactures (not just Volkswagen / Audi / Seat and Skoda) are applying increased security measures to their cars various electronic systems is more to do with keeping our ‘Friends in Brussels’ happy than to ‘stop’ you tuning your car. I’m not saying that tuning isn’t an element of it but there is a much more open reason for the increase in security. From what I can recall, It was deemed ‘unfair’ by the European Union council that only main dealerships should be allowed to update the key systems of automobiles with the latest versions of software available. This was deemed to not give customers freedom of choice…. As a side note this ‘area’ of rules also contains the one that was contested in Brussels and ultimately allows you as the consumer to take your car to any garage that you choose and the warrantee will stand, as long as the manufactures service schedule and genuine parts are used etc etc etc The majority of vehicle manufactures response to this situation was to basically say that they will allow certified garages in the aftermarket - who are not affiliated with a main brand dealership – to have access to the various software updates. Apparently the software can/will be supplied to the ‘certified dealerships’ via CD or much more likely via company websites. The Society of Automotive Engineers defined a ‘framework standard’ to allow Electronic system reprogramming to take place. Look up SAEJ2534 on the internet and you will find lots of data. Various ‘tool manufactures’ could then design and make equipment to comply with the standard which in itself allowed freedom of choice to what interface was appropriate for any existing diagnostic tools. Now it is my opinion that there is no way that a vehicle manufacture would allow their intellectual property (Software here) to be ‘out in the open’ without some form of tight control over its use. Hence manufactures have tightened up control of their IP with the introduction of tighter security measures.. I can understand this from the manufactures perspective – a side effect is that you need to get the encryption key for each ECU in order to load aftermarket tuning companies software. I have a customer who is a network architect and he is a specialist in cryptographic systems, when I explained to him what approach was being taken by manufactures the look on his face was superb. No more serial programming in the aftermarket for a few lifetimes was his response! To the best of my knowledge, for cars sold as of 1st September 2009 and intended for use in the European marketplace - They must/should now comply with SAEJ2534. However not all cars have so called ‘Anti-tune’ ECU firmware. In fact we had a 2 month old MK6 GTI (Bosch MED17 ECU) into JKM last week for APR and it programmed fine. Jim here at JKM on his 2.0 TSI Skoda (Bosch MED17 ECU) with an early year 2010 build date also did not have any ‘Anti-tune’ firmware. We are lead to believe that most diesels are now locked however. There are no ‘giveaways’ as to what may or may not be locked – we have to try serial programming the car, if it does not start afterwards then we simply reprogram the OEM map back on and away you go. Not all new cars are coming out with the latest Bosch MED17 ECU type either, for instance the new Golf R and Audi TT-RS to name a couple are both still running on Bosch MED9. Hope this helps Keith
  3. Hello Guys. The results are now up on this link: http://www.jkm.org.uk/performance/GalleryBRISK200210.htm I have been fitting these in between other jobs (hence the delay). Keith

  5. Hello Guys. Just to clear something up, The 'work around' tuning method for the latest Bosch EDC17 and MED17 ECUs with locked Tricore microprocessor's is not to actually remove the original IC from the ECU - instead the 'work around' method is to remove the ECU from the car and boot load the ECU. The method is actually very simular to BDM programing that had to be done on MED9 ECU's and EDC16 ECU's prior to 'easier by comparison' 'serial port flashing that was deveolped for programing these ECU types. For those intrested, This is a BDM programing JIG for MED9 ECU's (as per TFSI engines) and EDC16 ECU's as per the PD140 Diesel's This is a boot loading jig for new MED17 and EDC17 ECU's, as used on the new TSI and Common Rail diesel engines. From what are hearing through ALL the various tuning companies whom we deal with, the Antitune firmware that V.A.G are now introducing is causing a big problem with regards to serial programing. Boot loading (as per above) is the only guaranteed solution for first time programing at the moment :-( If you have a new car that works by serial programing and you get on well with your dealership - ask them to not update your ECU if it is due a manufctures software update - otherwise you run the risk of becoming Non Serial programable (In the aftermarket anyway). From what I have heard to date so far, the ECU's now employ 1024bit RSA signature encryption, however information is only starting to come out now so I may be wrong. For those intrested, this should help you off to sleep: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RSA or http://www.di-mgt.com.au/rsa_alg.html Assuming this information is correct (its from a good source) this level of secuirity is very hard to 'crack'. The people who can crack this probabily would take more intrest in internet banking than car tuning In the past manufactures put checksumm 'checks' into the ECU firmware code, these basically checked the value of various memory locations whilst the ECU was running and when the key was off (background checks performed) - these are not what you would call simple checks and they took some very clever people to 'crack the code' - however this new method clearly shows V.A.G getting very very tough with the tuning world :-( Fingers crossed a solution is found. I hope that this helps. Keith
  6. Yes not a problem. The FSD's are still here for you. See you then. Regards Kate

  10. Many VAG Diesel engines produce more than what they are rated at, off the top of my head.... I have seen a few 105 engine make 115 -119bhp. I have seen many 130TDI engines produce 140- 145bhp. I have seen many 150TDI engines produce 155-160bhp. I have seen a few TDI170 Engines produce 180-190bhp. VAG Petrol engines on the other hand are close to the stated figures most of the time (when running correctly). On petrol engines there is always the posibility of fuel grade influencing the result slightly due to more or less igntion timing retard. Hope this helps.
  11. Hi, Incase anyone does not see it in our our Forum section, I thought that i would just post up to let everyone know that there is a Rolling Road day event at JKM on Saturday 7th February 2009. 13. Hi Guys, Yes SACHS Clutch kit and flywheel modules for both the 1.9 and 2.0 TDI engines are now both available. These kits replace the troublesome dual mass flywheel with a high quality billet steel one and a specific heavy duty clutch with torsion damper. The retail price on both kits is £864.91 plus VAT Fitting is £250 plus VAT You also need to allow a few extra pennies approx £20 or so for new bolts etc. Not fitted one as yet, but SACHS have had great feed back from customers who had them fitted direct by of SACHS during the testing period. Kind Regards Kate
  14. As I dont want to double post, I just want to make some of you aware that I have answered some of the questions above in the thread here: http://briskoda.net/forums/jkm-motor-services/project-k04/110073/ Thanks Keith
  15. Hi Guys, I saw the questions on the Superchips warrantee above and just thought that id let you know what we as authorised distributors have been told on this. Basically circumstances have happened beyond Superchips control and they have lost the facility to offer the supplimentry warranty alongside the manufucatures warranty, with their software and Bluefins etc. Superchips initially told the dealer network that they where working to get another insurance company & underwriter in place to allow them to continue offering this cover. I guess this could not happen for what ever reason and Superchips have taken the opportunity to assess their position in the market place in the light of the current adverse economic climate and hence the recent price changes that have come into effect from April 1st 2008. If I find out anything more I will let you know. Kind Regards Keith
  16. In case anyone reading this is Interested in a bluefin, dont forget that at JKM we give you a FREE Green Cotton panel filter along with the Bluefin.... Link here: JKM Performance .... Superchips Bluefin - Skoda JKM
  17. Hi Guys, A little off subject I am sorry but I Just wanted to let you all know that I have just uploaded all of our new TFSI tuning products onto the site... Please see the thread here: http://briskoda.net/forums/jkm-motor-services/jkm-2-0-tfsi-tuning-packages-launched/105539/ Kind Regards Keith
  18. Lee, Keep in mind that there was nothing simular in the market place that the Autotech could be priced against (except for a complete pump from APR). These pumps come with a 1 year warrantee regardless of what software you are running. I can still supply the Autotech if required, the lead times on them are quite long though. Keith
  19. Hello Richierich, I just got your order thankyou :-) I have just ordered more of these pumps as I have only got the 1 left on day 1 of stating that they are available! Keith
  20. The pumps are here ! As these are going very quickly I already only have 3 left for sale... they are going quick!!
