  2. Project Engineer for a Multinational Engineering company
  3. Is it legal for it to have a 1.9 diesel but be registered as a 1.4?
  4. Thanks for the help guys, as i assumed no major issues, just good to check i suppose.
  5. As people with Mk I's tend to have higher mileage PD's than those with Mk II's i thought i would post i here. My current PCP deal expires in October so i am starting to look into the costs associated with changing/keeping the car. After running this one for what will be 2 years i am pretty sure of running costs/servicing needs etc for the first two years of ownership, which just leaves me to calculate purchase price and finance options if i was to get another new car. I am also looking into buying the car from Skoda when the deal expires so was looking for your advice and experience of what running costs to expect if i kept the car for another 3 years, as i do 18k-20k a year and maybe doing increased mileage with my job this is beginning to look like the sensible option as i wont be stung for excess mileage charges if i were to get another PCP (though they arent huge). I have an idea of fuel costs, tyre life/costs, taxing, insurance etc. Servicing is costing ~£100 for a 10/30/50k and ~£200 for a 20/40/60k service. So basically if i kept the car to 100k miles what costs would i expect (the car will have about 38k when my deal expires in Oct), which services are the biggies (is it 80k for cambelt, water pump? How much?), do the glow plugs or injectors need replacing etc, basically what tends to go wrong/need replacing when taking the engine to this age? I know that these engines when well looked after will just be running in at 100k so i dont expect anything major to break, but an idea of servicing and wear part costs would be appreciated. Also, as the Mk I/II are pretty much the same car underneath how long do brake/suspension parts seem to last and cost to replace for you guys? My previous Mk I starting falling apart badly at 80k/9years old with supension collapsing, handbrake snapping, coolant system going, knackered suspension bushes to name a few (though that car wasnt particuarly well loved apart from regular lube services i admit). Apologies if some of this seems obvious, but please humour me. Thanks all for your help in advance.
  6. Tried two places so far, one said £150 for local repair, respray, blending then laqeuring the whole panel for both. This first one was recommended by a guy at work, several colleagues have seen his result and were very impressed. The place i have used before said £305.50, expensive but again they do good work. Trying a couple more places after work, rang chips away, he's coming tomorrow to look but says it might be more than he can handle (as he is mobile) if the whole panel needs doing. Good tip Mannyo, now ive calmed down a bit i'll give it a good wash again tonight and have ago with the Autoglym SRP.
  7. Some anus has managed to scratch my car either maliciously or by accident, i wish i knew which of these it was and where it happened but that is redundant now. Just noticed it this morning, so im not quite sure when it happened, could have been anytime since Friday as it wasnt there when i washed it on Friday evening, i have to park my car on the street unfortunately, though it could have occured in a car park. The scratch is on the passenger side across the upper front wing and front door, about 20 inches in length, with about 6 inches on the door. Luckily most of it doesnt look to deep, with only a couple of spots going down to the metal. Im furious and gutted, i try to look after my car and then this happens, im sure im by far the only one though. Looking at the pictures (you wouldnt believe i only cleaned it Friday, bloomin construction sites) how much do you guys think this might cost to get repaired? I hope it doesnt warrant a full panel respray, would a decent bodyshop be able to do a local repair/respray? Im taking it down to a place i have visited before with a previous car this afternoon to get it at looked at and get a quote for the repair.
  8. *************************** I have never dealt with the service department at Allams but i can offer my opinion of the sales department, specifically James. So i thought i would quickly share my positive experience, I bought my car in October 2008. I had been looking for a few weeks and James contacted me via PM after he had seen me asking questions on the forum. Although he made first contact he was never pushy, he was genuinely offering answers to my questions, which he promptly did. James answered the many (many, many) questions i had, talked me through the finance, provided me with figures for all the variations i asked for regarding the finance. As i live in S Wales all the fomalities were completed on the phone or by e-mail which meant that on the day of collecting the car i was able to show up, sign on the dotted line and drive away. Since the purchase he has made regular contact to check that i am happy with the car, so all in all i am very happy, friendly, low pressure service and the dealer who could get closest to the DTD price also.
  9. Hopefully ill be alright as i do enough of the right mileage for them to function correctly.
  10. He never heard of drivethedeal or broadspeed?
  11. Will be nice to see the full definitve Skoda UK spec and price list, will help me decide whether or not to downgrade to a 2 next time.
  12. I hate these VAT FREE deals, Skoda are just giving you the discount off list that most dealers would give you anyway, the dealers must love this. Skoda must be taking their usual dealer price deduction from list and the nature of the deal brings in more customers while they still make their usual price on a sale. Do people actually pay full list price for cars these days?
  13. This link http://new.skoda-auto.com/SiteCollectionDocuments/Catalogue/NewFabia/FL/Fabia_MiniCatalogue_ENG.pdf (stolen from OctaviaT81) confirms that Race Blue is available Also cant help but think that if i was going to spend 16k + options + estate price bump that i would rather buy one of these: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201005351720763/sort/priceasc/usedcars/fuel-type/diesel/body-type/estate/engine-size-cars/2l_to_2-5l/maximum-age/up_to_1_year_old/model/octavia/make/skoda/keywords/vrs/postcode/sa43ed/radius/1500/page/1?previous=%2Fsearch%2Fused%2Fcars%2Fskoda%2Foctavia%2Fpostcode%2Fsa43ed%2Fradius%2F1500%2Fkeywords%2Fvrs%2Ffuel-type%2Fdiesel%2Fbody-type%2Festate%2Fengine-size-cars%2F2l_to_2-5l%2Fmaximum-age%2Fup_to_1_year_old%2Fsort%2Fpriceasc%2Fpage%2F1&logcode=p hmmmm..... is it possible to use the PCP purchase scheme on a used car? Scratch that.. Drive the deal will do a brand new one with my chosen options in Solid paint for £17017.... bloody ridiculous!!
  14. Assuming a June release date when do we think that the UK spec & pricelist will be released. Im assuming a 12 week build for demo cars and release day delivery so would we expect to see the spec for the end of this month/early April? Also i assume with the large output/low capacity arrangement that this will need to run on premium unleaded?
  15. I hope that is the case, xenons i can sort of understand, they are an expensive option for a car of this list price. RCL is surely a standard fit on what is effectively going to be the top specification of the FL Fabia. Also what would be the point of supplying a DSG gearbox without paddles? I hope this spec is clarified/sorted for the UK.
  16. Woooooooooo!!! shame about the diesel but i think i could take the economy hit for 18k miles a year. An estate, happy days! I think its a real looker, seems im in the minority, I noticed whats Babs noticed too about the blue illumination inside.... its not a Golf.
  17. Apologies to OctaviaT81 for stealing his post from the facelift thread and i hope it isnt a pearost, but this site says that there will be a 170bhp 1.4TSI and 140bhp 2.0CR TDI. http://news.auto.cz/spy/spy-photos-skoda-fabia-2010.html But then again it could be the czech equivalent of AutoExpress
  18. I do hope so, as much as i love the PD something with a bit more oomph and refinement would be much appreciated.
  19. I do hope that you are not pulling our collective legs!! 150-170bhp estate with DSG sounds lovely, i would prefer a 140bhp diesel but i wont complain. Roll on October!
  20. I had some Artera ones for my old car and they fell off, but roofbox.co.uk have great customer service so they gave me Thule for free, so when i got the estate i swapped the footpack and use them for the estate
  21. I went for Uniroyal Rainsports, slow wearing, mega grippy, but noisy and not cheap
  22. I do hope that the 1.6CR is available around august time, can trade up from the clunky (but reliable) PD to something a little smoother
  23. £3300 for that? Crikey! Values have dropped, how old is it? I am interested to see what the running costs are like
