  1. The more I read about putting one on the motor the more I'm tempted.... Love my vrs but not the way it underteers!
  2. Yes, beg your pardon- meant to say it was soot marks up the back of the car. Indeed, the figures quoted are all over the place!!! I shall see what skoda UK come back with and take it from there. I recon the figures are just made up by them. Thanks.
  3. Morning folks- right I'm finally back in the land of the living with the paperwork in front of me! After the oil test mentioned their findings are as follows- Before oil in 4518G. After oil in 1126G. 345G difference after 207 miles. Total 1.23 litres of oil used per 1000km- above limit- requires short engine replacement due to oistion rings allowing oil to pass. That's a direct quote from the documentation given to me, and yes I know that weight equates to the engine being over filled with oil. However, in reading previous posts I'd say they've just made up these numbers! Thier test states what it does, but keeping an eye on things myself the oil is filled correctly and in 1000 miles the level hasn't moved. This is now after the oil breather, spray and Ecu mods. The car also does not get the oil spatters up the back end the way it did before the mods. Since the test I've been informed that Skoda UK will not give any 'good will' towards a new engine..... Watch this space I guess, I'm running the car and it seems fine. The test was done on thier 5-30 oil, but after oil draining I insisted they refilled with new 5-40 that I supplied. That's the oil in the car now and it seems fine on that.
  4. Ah, I'd just presumed it was through the radio as the volume would drop/switch to the reverse beep. That'll do me if it's a separate speaker! Just need to work out if I need speaker mount adapters or can just fit new speakers in the existing door mounts. Thanks!
  5. Cheers mate. I'll have to get a connects2 adapter kit as the reverse beeps run through the radio. As you'd mentioned I think they're all part of the steering control kit. Reason I'm going pioneer is that I've always had them and they're great. No reason why it can't be a kenwood though, guess I'll just have a look at what's out there. The kenwood direct replacement is great, but not £700 great considering the monster install I could build for that! Cheers again!

  7. Hi folks- right in faffing with the motor again, this time the radio! I'd like to replace the 'swing' headunit for something better. Not interested in sat nav screen type units. More along time lines of pioneer reference single din/double din unit. I know what I need with fascia adapters/iso wiring but what I'm not sure about is the canbus connections. The swing unit links in with the reverse sensors to give image and sound, I know I'll not get these with a pioneer 'normal' radio and that's fine. However, will not having a link to the canbus give me fault codes on the car? Is there a way to overcome this and what have other people fitted? I want good sound and not a 'media' type headunit. I'll be replacing the speakers at some point too. Cheers!
  8. Brake mods- I've just done the mk4 r32 front brake set up. However I've used new disks and pads and the caliper spring clips touch the inside of the spokes, arrgghhh!!!!! I know there are those who've had no problems but be warned I'm going to have to run spacers (as small as I can possibly get away with), until the pads have worn down a bit and will clear the wheels safely. It has proven to be a right pain for me and with hindsight I'd have left them alone! Or done the 312mm ones instead of 334mm ones.
  9. Same cylinders- 3&4 pre fixes! I did replace these manky plugs for the denso's above, however they did a good few miles before the fixes were done!
  10. Still haven't got my oil figures from the other week infront of me, but took chance to check a couple of plugs today. Before the breather/ spray jets they were soaked in oil and caked in carbon fouling! I'd say these looks a lot better! Oil level hasn't budged in 700 miles too!
  11. I've got the consumption figures at home- away this week... I'll get them up once I'm back! I have to say the skoda dealership in Darlington I've dealt with have been brilliant! Only one who wanted to know when I walked in saying my car loves oil. Staff have been spot on! As said I'll get the figures up when I've got them in front of me.
  12. Hi folks, for what it's worth here's my latest story.... Car had oil breather, spray jets and Ecu update last week. Was refilled with fresh oil at the time too and was told to return the car after 186miles for consumption test. After the oils was weighed I was reliably informed that the car was still using 3x the oil it should be 'within tolerance'. So, was informed it needs a new engine! Waiting for any word on goodwill! However, I'd been keeping an eye on the dipstick and the level hadn't budged! At the time of the oil test I gave them a bottle of my 0w-40 Mobil 1 to refil the car with, which they did. (Instead of thier 0-30 that was put in when mods done). Again keepin a close eye on it the level hasn't budged, after 350miles so far. To add to this the car no longer has soot spatters up the back of it or smokes like a diesel under load which it used to!? I'll be up to 600+ miles by the end of the week. See what happens! If I'm happy with the way it runs and isn't using oil now, sod the new engine until/if it goes pop....... I am running denso plugs too!
  13. I would if I were you! Mine was using roughly 500ml in 300 miles. I really had to chase the dealer when it was developing a misfire and would smoke quite a bit when putting my foot down hard. I kept a written record of how much oil I was putting in over distance covered.
  14. Well mine's finally gone in for oil breather, spray jets and Ecu updates........ Let's see what happens!
  15. Yeah, going to have to get back to skoda a see what they'll do. It's burning 0.5 litres in 500 miles at the moment, not good! Thankfully the car's not being driven much of late.
  16. I'm running that in mine, car runs fine but still drinks oil like mad.......
  17. I'll bet mate! I put focus st front brakes on my old mondeo and that was brilliant. This thing is half the weight!
  18. Well it's a while ago but I've finally done it... Got mk4 r32 front brakes to put on the car! I just need to get a 17" wheel for my spare!!
  19. The motor was service at 29k by main dealer- Plugs, filters etc- Post #8 was supposedly those plugs- that is if they'd put new ones in as listed in service info. Filter is brand new though, checked that out! I've got new plugs on the way to fit this week. As for the fuel filter I've got a spare one- got it to replace when I got the car- I like to replace all filters when I get a new motor, just to be sure they're all clean and good. But found out that the fuel filter is a 'lifetime' filter from VW!?! Must admit I don't really believe that! I'll get back into them about the software update! As for oil, I'm using Mobil 1 0w-40 to VW 502 spec. Topping it up once a month or so. I'll set the level and check it at 1000 mile intervals over the next couple of weeks. Cheers for your info again.
  20. Ah, that would answer that then. It's 2011 CAVE, 32k on the clock and totally standard. However, it's stood for a week while I've been away and fired up instantly and no misfire on idle at all. Just going to keep an eye on oil use and get it into Skoda for thier consumption test and see what that reveals. Main dealer did mention the breather mods, oil jet etc but no warranty cover. The car is 5 years old so if I have to pay for the mods ill just get it done. It just seems odd that it has only been misfiring on idle and not on boost though!
  21. Well I've had the motor back to skoda main dealer. They've said there's no recalls/updates for the motor... Going to raise the oil consumption thing with them next.
  22. Thanks for the info! Yeah, putting new plugs in. It's April 2011 with only 32k on the clock, not sure if it's had ecu update but it has had the dsg oil change, not that that would affect the engine though. It does use oil, 1.5 litre in 3k miles.... Already running 502 spec oil and 99 Ron. Shall just see what happens over the next few days!
