Rapid Spaceback Project
Car has now been sold and replaced with a 2019 Octavia. I shall miss my Rapid as it was a fun journey/process and a very fun car to drive. It travelled from Scotland to the South West, and was used for moving house, festivals, rallies and more. 6 and a half years of ownership and relatively little went wrong. I learnt a lot from it and definitely have the bug of modifying future cars (although maybe not with such a loud exhaust!). Onwards and upwards!

Rapid Spaceback Project
Been a while hasn't it! To the comments asking for parts lists, sorry but I can't remember exactly. Bulbs were easy to determine via Halfords online and then find the matching codes elsewhere. I've listed the part names further back in the thread and a quick Google will bring them up. So the car has now done 95.6k miles and unfortunately has a mechanical gremlin that cannot be fixed. At idle the engine sometimes runs "lumpy" and seems to be misfiring, however when driving it doesn't have any issues. Originally, accelerating in 3rd through 5th would cause a severe juddering sensation almost as though the car was stalling but this was initially solved by replacing the coil pack. The car has been to 3 VAG specialist garages (Mersey Tuning, Awesome GTi and ADS in Preston) who cannot solve the problem of the "lumpy" running. The car has had a new fuel filter, new spark plugs, new coil pack, new ignition leads, new air filters, injector cleaning, performance fuel, gearbox/drivetrain/suspension/turbo inspections and further but a source of the issue cannot be found. No codes come up on diagnostic software either. The car will be replaced this year as I'm reluctant to spend any more money on it trying to fix the issue.

1.2 TSI (3 cylinder) juddering at 2000 rpm 3rd through 5th
Hi, Been a while since I've been here! Hope everyone is doing well. I have a 2014 Spaceback with a 1.2tsi 3 cylinder (manual 5 speed) and recently it has started juddering at 2000 rpm in 3rd to 5th. I'll try to explain below: The juddering is only when you accelerate around 2k rpm and it almost feels like the car is stalling but it smooths out around 2.2k rpm. You can feel it through the cabin shaking but the steering isn't affected. It only seems to happen if you keep the accelerator pressed hard but if you keep it pressed lightly it doesn't judder at all through any of the gears. Revs don't bounce around and engine doesn't make any unusual noises. If you keep your foot pressed (about halfway or more ) it judders more violently shaking the entire car (as though stalling). 1st and 2nd are fine at any revs and so is pulling away from static is fine. It revs smoothly throughout and idles fine (not sounding rough or misfiring). Doesn't surge when driving, no smoke and Oil temp is showing in the 90s when driving. It was serviced last weekend (major service at VAG specialist garage) and has only started this week. No lights are on the dash. Any ideas? Going to ring the garage and take it back but at a loss what it could be. Initial thought was either air in the fuel line or contaminated fuel, but surely that wouldn't have lasted a few days?

Front Splitter
A quick look through the "Rapid Projects" forum shows quite a few people have fitted them 😆

Upgrade Fails and Cautionary Tales
I've fitted a large-bore exhaust and downpipe to my Rapid (4" downpipe, sports-cat and 3" exhaust with resonator) which sounds great. It burbles nicely at idle and if you boot it and lift, it crackles and pops (pop being the choice word as it's not like gunshots going off on some cars). On longer acceleration you get hear the induction noise of the turbo and even get the "whoo" noise through the exhaust when lifting off. A blow-off valve would be a nice addition, if purely for noise and nothing else. However take it above 65mph and the drone becomes all-consuming. If there's a hill involved, the radio has to be cranked up. Oh, and as I have found out, not all garages with pass a car's MOT with a Sports-cat. So there's that too. In hindsight I should have stuck with the cat-back exhaust upgrade and left it at that. Oh well, you live and learn

What aftermarket head unit will fit my Skoda?
I put an aftermarket unit in my Skoda for the same price as a second hand genuine unit. I got it from Audio Tech Direct. They were really helpful and got me everything I needed to do a straight swap (including the surround for the dashboard). It's still going strong 3 years later, but there are times I wish I'd got a genuine 2nd hand unit instead.

Not quite "Neeeooowwwwn" but more "however you make the noise of a car sliding on gravel". That tree branch got in the way of many a photo /rage

Taken at the 2022 Plains Rally in Clocaenog Forest. I Tried to go for something a bit more "atmospheric" when taking photos. I also took a brave pill and shot in full manual mode, so I think it paid off quite well! I'm chuffed with how it's turned out. It may be a bit dark at the bottom right and the car is a bit more blurred than i'd have liked, but it's a start!

iPod People in 2021. Make Yourselves Known.
My 4th gen iPod Touch (8gb) has finally died. It now turns off as soon as you unplug it, even though it shows the battery as charging/fully charged. It lasting 10+ years is somewhat impressive though. End of an era as now all my music will fit on my 128gb phone, so it's died at the right time.

Hifi of Yesteryear vs Today's effort!
Yeah, I think it was a warehouse find or something along those lines. The box was pretty much landfill, but the system itself was fine. Never seen them since though.

Hifi of Yesteryear vs Today's effort!
A few years ago I bought this off eBay (it was brand new, still had all the plastic wrapping on it) and it had the best sound of any speaker setup I've ever owned. It was so loud it was fantastic! The bass was nuts but not over-bearing. Selling it on was one of my biggest regrets.

Headlight Bulb Upgrade from Yellow to White
So I never updated this 😅 I got the Osram Cool Blue Intense 4200K bulbs in the end for both Headlight and DRLS. The colour isn't much different over stock, but the brightness increase is massive. The DRLs are now clearly visable even in daylight and the reach of the headlight beam has improved. Full Beam is brighter too. The side lights I replaced with these LED bulbs when they were on sale.
