  1. not Darren or Richard, was it? PF Jones gave me their number, and they came over to Swindon try and activate the ACC again and after spending 30 mins or so trying to do it unsuccessfully i had to take it to a dealer for re calibration. They did say that this car is a pig to do the wiring on - which i found out. My last car - an XC90 was plug and play - 20 mins later all done.
  2. that sounds like a bargain. i paid c.£300 for a detachable Bosal towbar and Westfalia electrics. it then took me around 3 hours to fit the towbar, and another 6 or so to do the wiring. on top of that i then bought VCDS to activate the towbar, then spent around another 20 hours or so trying to turn the ACC module back on as it lost it needed recalibration at another £220 - the dealer quoted me £1080 for a skoda towbar, so thats why i did it myself - if i'd got a quote for under £600 i'd had snapped their arm off.
  3. okay, noted. so i drove for 60 mins and 90 mins on sunday from swindon to warwick and back - then my wife took it into town yesterday and when she came back the fan was on loud for a few minutes. would it not have tried to regenerate the DPF when i did the long run at the weekend - it was c.60mph of driving for about an hour each way? suppose next time i do a trip i might need to hold it in a lower gear to keep the RPM up over the 2200rpm.
  4. thanks for this tip - i'll have a read up on that too.
  5. thanks for the reply. i'll take it for a spin and give it the beans. i've done around 4000 miles in it since the end of July with holidays etc, so bit surprised to hear that. with other cars i always used to rag them within an inch of its life as they were always high powered petrol turbos and a heavy old XC90 which used to be trashed to get it moving, but with this i have the urge to drive more sedately apart from a few quick moments when overtaking etc - and in france had a couple of hours at very high speed fully loaded dashing back to calais after being held up in a traffic incident. i'll take it out for a spin and report back.
  6. Hi, I've a 190 SE-L diesel estate. I notice even after very sedate drives that the engine fan stays on for around 5 minutes after parking up and its quite noisy. Its not been driven hard and its not a particularly hot day. anyone elses do the same?
  7. i'd suggest registering on the Ross-Tech forum. They helped me out when i had trouble with tow-bar coding on my 2016 superb. if you have a legit VCDS/Vagcom then its free to use. http://forums.ross-tech.com/forum.php
  8. ooooppps. best get my lead foot out them, sport mode and get down to Milton Keynes for some ragging around the roundabouts then.
  9. thats pretty going on the france journey for a petrol. on my recent trip to france with streamlined roofbox and bikes on a bike carrier i averaged 42.3 down to Limoges, then down to just 39.8 whilst doing short trips down the west coast. it rose back to 42.01 whilst travelling back north to paris in stop/start traffic. all of those journeys were at c.65/70mph as i really was trying hard to get a bit more out of her, then from paris to calias, as i was a bit late for the tunnel ended up doing 90+ and then it dropped to 38.7 when i last refuelled. All of those figures are from a 190 SE-L DSG estate with c.8000 on the clock and tyres on eco pressure. Driving mode was Individual so i could coast when i could which isn't possible when the towbar electrics are activate on Eco setting. Incar computer shows c.45/47mpg on those figures. i came from an XC90 and averaged 29 over the same French journey with same luggage but was doing 85/90 most of the journey in france. so i have to say i was a bit disappointed on those figures as i really thought i might get 50mpg down there, but just goes to show how much weight, roofbox and bikes can affect the MPG. i'd hate to think how a caravan might affect the figures. I did a return trip to cardiff at the weekend along the M4 with wife and 3 kids at same 65mph speed and Individual mode and computer showed 55mpg, so hoping next visit to the pump will give me better figures. its a strange car as i've never been particularly bothered about MPG and after having Volvo's for the past 10 years which rarely achieved more than 20-25 mpg i've been hooked on seeing how carefully i could drive and how much the superb will give me per gallon.my old Audi S6 usually saw 13-16mpg, so in comparison the Skoda sips fuel.
  10. i got them to stick a 10 litre bottle in the boot when i took delivery of mine as i am about 40 miles from the dealer. From memory it was c.£19 for the 10 litres. I need refill again in the next couple of weeks and i've been looking at service stations which have it on pump as i heard it was meant to be 50% the price of diesel, so around £0.60 a litre. Typically i passed one the other night whilst i was late so i couldn't stop and find out.
  11. quick update on this. i was sat in a slow moving traffic jam in france last week at 39'c - which was stop/start for 100+ miles. the brake/sidelight bults in my rear cycle carrier must have overheated as i suddenly got a message saying a "trailer bulb" was out. I also had a problem then with the ACC/Cruise Control. I pulled into the nearest supermarket - changed both bulbs in the cycle carrier. When ignition was cycled off/on it then all worked okay. It appears that on the towbar electrics it must sense a blown bulb and deactivate the ACC. Luckily 2 x 50 cent bulbs fixed mine. After that I also turned off the DRLs for the car and towbar (as per the VCDS guide) to avoid them being left on continuously when I was in stop/start traffic in such a high temperature. Turned then back on for the return leg to the UK, and all is fine and dandy.
  12. update..... i received some good advice from Ross-Tech regarding correct coding to get the towbar installed okay. for some reason though my Adaptive Cruise Control and Front Assist stopped working. The only solution was to take it to the local dealer and c.£220 later they have now reactivated and recalibrated it, so its now working They said it could have been hit by a stone or could be related to the towbar fitment - either way, i'm pleased its now working and kinda wished i'd spent the £1080 i'd been quoted on a dealer fit towbar, as to date i've probably spent £590 (inc £260 for VCDS) along with the £220 today, so already in for £810 plus about 30 or 40 hours in fitting and diagnostic work! So, given the choice again i'd get it done professionally rather than a DIY install!
  13. i kind of wish i hadn't bothered with it now....i only use it for a towbar bike carrier :( if i'd done a factory order i would have ordered it with the towbar, but i bought mine as a car which the garage had on order to be used as their demonstrator - so i got it before it was registered. thats what i might need to do... i've just found the closest Skoda deal which has the equipment needed is c.50 miles away, so i've just booked it in to have it looked at - just hope it doesn't affect the warranty... it was a westfalia wiring loom - which supposedly is what they use if its a dealer fit towbar/wiring...
  14. quick update on this issue. I still have the ACC and front assist problem - it not working. A Westfalia installer has tried to do the coding to no avail; luckily he didn't charge me as it wouldn't work. I'm nervous to take it to Skoda dealer to have a look at just incase that say the towbar wiring has voided the warranty.... :S no wires were cut - but to fit the wiring loom you have to remove a couple of pins from the Skoda BCM module; then loop them out into the Westfalia loom. i double checked the wiring last night - took 4 hours to remove dash, check all wiring and then attempt to reset codes using VCDS. Ross-tech are looking at my coding - the first reply i had from them removed a couple of errors, so now i am left with the unfunctioning ACC/Front Assist. Bit of advice....if you are thinking of a Towbar, the £900 or so quote from Skoda is now good in my eyes. I've spent at least 20-30 hours fitting the towbar; installing and rechecking all wiring; and hours on VagCom/VCDS. Thats on top of the c.£550 i spent on the towbar, loom and Vagcom :( Mrs StuT4 is not a happy bunny at the moment.....
  15. hi, wow, thats certainly some discount. i purchased an estate SEL-exec 190 dsg last November. at the same time i was offered a brand new E-Class AMG Black 2.2 for about £4k more. On reading the reviews, it seems that the Merc was a better driving car, but the Skoda the better all rounder. The reason i chose the Skoda was because it was a brand new model rather than taking the last of the E-Class before the new model hit the showrooms as they were getting rid of old stock. In hindsight, i'd still like the Merc design, but do not regret the skoda. My Father-in-law has just purchased a brand new 520d - again he was offered a cracking deal as they are due to release a new 5 series soon. The BMW looks more impressive when they are side by side, and internally the BMW does now look good. The issue i had with the beemer was that it is tight getting 3 kids in the back (2 of mine are in car seats) - the seat belt buckles are a nightmare to get to. The skoda in comparison is easy; more width and loads more leg room. I paid c.£30k for my Skoda - i'd certainly think of a BMW 5 series at that price - if i didn't need the width then i'd certainly get the BMW, but for practicality at the minute i'll need to stick with the Skoda. good luck with your decision!
  16. is this only available on the petrol or 280 model? i've noticed that the sport mode on the diesel makes it sound raspy which i'd prefer all the time.
  17. i test drove a 150 manual and 190 dsg. the 150 is fine around town and I dare say for 90% of driving, but if you want to get a shift on i found the 190 went like poo of a spade in sport mode. i have come from 10 years of Volvo t5's and d5's, so wanted something which would pull hard as and when i wanted. i had previously ordered a Golf GTD but due to production delays i cancelled it and went for the 190 DSG Sel-Exec Combi. in sport mode its everybit as good as the t5 it replaced but does 45 mpg instead of early 20's. I'd love to get another t5 but it would only be to take things for the tip run as I hate putting anything dirty in the Superb. I dabbled with the idea of the 150 and getting it remapped but as skoda don't have an approved tuner (unlike Volvo), I didn't want to risk breaking it and voiding the warranty. Plus I've found insurance screw you on a remapped car - so thought less hassle to get the 190.
  18. i'd love to hear if there were any approved skoda remaps. i came to skoda after 10 years with Volvos - the latest being a 185 diesel xc90 which i had remapped to 230 bhp and a 25% torque increase. I went with a Swedish tuning firm mod, but it would have affected the warranty if it had problems. Volvo later released its own approved polestar mod. the xc90 was not a race car - 1st/2nd gear was relatively unchanged, but hit the pedal in 3rd and it felt like a minor earthquake under the bonnet which was fantastic for overtaking. Yet sit on the motorway cruising at 65/70 and the fuel economy was 15% better than before remap. 0-60 was reduced by around 1.5 seconds which took it from a bit of a slouch to almost keeping up with an early model Audi Q7. in honesty, I sold the idea to the wife on "economy", but if you use the extra torque you use more fuel. I've got a Nov 2016 S3 Combi Sel-Exec 190 dsg. Economy mode and normal road feels pants. Sport mode is good. I've tried the Audi "pedal" mod and didn't notice anything. i'd like another c.30bhp just to make an already quick car faster. If skoda had offered the more potent Audi diesel in the S3 i'd have got that. I didn't go for a higher powered Audi, BMW or Merc from the outset as their 2 litre similar spec models were c.£6k more but power not too different, so you're looking c.£10k more than the £31k list price of mine for a 3litre. If I could get a little more power from mine for c.£500 on a remap, and save £9k in the process i'd be more than happy with that. I suspect Volvo approved the polestar mod as they did not offer a more powerful car - I expect VW/Audi/Skoda will not want to do the same otherwise people will avoid the 3 litre jobs and settle for a 2 litre with remap.
  19. just spoken with an independent fitter. He said it does need the Westfalia device as it needs some "FR coding" changed. He was impressed i'd been able to do the wiring as he said "it was a pig". Will charge me £50 to sort it next week.
  20. hi, thank you for the replies. yes, I checked all wiring and have removed all coding and the ACC then works. I heard from the place I bought the kit from over the weekend (PF Jones) who checked with their technicians/fitters. Apparantly the ACC needs coding specifically done by a Westfalia coding device - and cannot be done via Vagcom/VCDS. I'm waiting to hearing from the local Westfalia installer to see how much they will charge to do this. Oh well, considering Skoda quoted me £957 to supply/install and i'm currently at £570 for parts/VCDS I've a little to play with. I'll update once this is sorted. In the meantime, if anyone else is planning to do this, just be aware that you may need the ACC coding separately.
  21. Hello All, i've fitted a westfalia removable towbar along with "dedicated" electrics (my a**e)....plug and play they are not. Anyway, I took so long to fit it that i'm sure that all wiring etc is correct. I purchased a legit VCDS & Vagcom reader. I've checked through everything I found online - resetting DTC's; coding the tow bar into the system. But I've been left with a few errors which no matter what I try I cannot get rid of. In summary - its a Westfalia electric kit from PFJones designed for Skoda Superb III/Golf VII/Audi A3. Electrics work okay. Plugged Towbar bike carrier in and all electrics work okay. Rear parking sensors disable when tow bar electrics plugged in - and there is a caravan picture on the dash. Problem I have is with the Cruise Control with Front Assist (ACC). It says not available :( I've checked and reset all coding to no avail. I've included a print out below - if anyone would be able to help look at the coding it would be most appreciated. The grille sensor is completely uncovered and undamaged. It only stopped working when I connected wiring for the towbar when I had to disconnect the battery. 22. thanks for the reply. mines the 190 bhp diesel and I didn't notice much of a change. i'll have to dig out a bit more info on the ACC error then. Yes, just a Logochange - with VRS in red and green colours. A bit sportier than the standard skoda one. To get it to function (along with the offroad app) I had to press power on the satnav for 10 seconds to restart it after doing the coding.
  23. okay, received new VCDS from Ilexa yesterday. Done a few changes to my 65 plat SE-L Exec. - : * the Off Road screen - worked fine. * changed it so that the Eco/Normal/Sport mode shows in dotmatrix display - worked fine. * changed startup screen to VRS - worked fine. * included Oil Temp & Litre to full within dot matrix - worked fine. * activated rear DRL's - worked fine. Tried to change Throttle response to "Audi" - the coding went through okay, but I noticed no difference at all in either Eco/Normal or Sport mode. Not sure if I need to do anything else to activate this. Activated Towbar installation in several places as advised above - but its still showing as "not Registered" with ETC error. Since installing the Westfallia wiring loom behind the dash and piggybacking the BCM modules (plug and play my a*se!), the Acc will not function. The Auto Distance module has a malfunction and will not reset. It says the Sensor for Automatic Distance Regulation is incorrectly positioned. I've seen a few posts about this occurring on a Towbar install, but cannot see anything on how to reset it or make it work. Any suggestions please? Thanks in advance.
  24. ordered this late Friday from Ilexa. Delivered first thing today. now to spend a bit of time getting acquainted with it.
