Battery not charging
eceived the message "battery not charging stop car" accomanied by a red triangle in the display. Aside from the obvious.......that the battery is not being charged! I did check battery voltage which read 11.6V which seems low. The car seems to start OK. I'm guessing battery on its way out of dud alternator. The battery is 8 years old - the car's original one. Any thoughts?

Forgetting saved DAB stations
Hi all. I may have asked this before, but does anywone know why the Columbus (2017 MY) occasionally forgets all its DAB station pre-sets? It's not hard to restore them but it's a right pain to restore all the lesser station icons

Superb IV Estate with 3 Kids & Luggage
You will find that an Audi A4 has a lot less space in the back seats as well as a smaller boot.

Snow Chains for 18-inch Wheels
Look here: https://www.roofbox.co.uk/scripts/rbvehsel3.php?emulate=snowchains&query=8319&Sub_Model=&TID=325 I can't comment on the König Reflex Edge automatic snow chains, but I've experience of the other types listed on this page. Autosocks are cheap and effective but get destroyed in quite a short distance. Chains that fit from the outside of the wheel work well and aren't affected by limited clearance between the inside of the tyre and the suspension, but are expensive, and tend to take up quite a lot of space in the boot. I used Spikes Spiders on a later Seat Alhambra with larger, wider tyres, and now use chains similar to the Konig K-Summit type listed in the link. My Superb is now 8 years old and I have yet to use the chains in anger, just occasional trial fits in my drive to remind me how they work!

2025 Map update
I'd had the errors others have reported with the .zip file from the Skoda portal. There were no errors when unzipping the .7z file from the VW site which is linked to earlier in this thread. As I said before, only the very latest Windows 11 update, currently being rolled out, is able to unzip .7z files, otherwise you need the 7zip software.

2025 Map update
Finally got time to try to update the maps. I'd unzipped the file to a 32GB SD card. When the update option was selected I had nervous wait until the update was recognised, then the update started. Previous updates took the best part of an hour, whereas this one only took about 30 minutes.

2025 Map update
That's the next challenge. Sorry, but downloading and unzipping to an SD card is the easy bit as I can do it whilst getting on with other things. I can't get out in the car to try the physical update until at least Wednesday. What I can say is that when I tried the version from the Skoda portal, having skipped the error messages, the Colbumus said it couldn't find the software. In summary, I'll report back but it might take a day or two.

2025 Map update
I've downloaded this link from earlier in this thread: VW portal: https://navigation-maps.volkswagen.com/vw-maps/P390_N60S5MIBH3_EU.7z It appears to unzip OK. I have the latest 24H2 update to Windows 11 which unzips .7z (7zip) files I understand that earlier version would need the 7zip software to be installed

2025 Map update
I've had a strange experience in that a .psf file relating to Finland results in an error when unzipping. Does anyone know if this will this prevent the update from working?

Losing coolant
Thanks all for the feedback.

Losing coolant
My 220 TSI flagged 'low coolant on 31 Jan. When I got home I checked by the level was between min and max. That was lower than usual so a little had been used. I topped up to max and then drove my family and a roof box though France to the Alps and back with no trouble. This week the alarm has sounded again, each time when Ieft the drive. Inspected this morning and level is low - below minimum, and I topped up about 400-500ml. I can't see any signs of leaks. Any ideas folks? Dreaded water pump failure, perhaps? If so might it be covered by Skoda 'all parts' warranty? In any event, I'll book it in for attention after Easter. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Undertray in middle of the car
After parking this afternoon the person who drove in behind me asked if the red car was mine. She said there's something hanging down. When I looked it was a panel roughly under the read left side footwell with one corner adrift. Oh drat (or words to that effect) why does this happen when I have a longish trip tomorrow? Anyway at about 16:00 phoned local Skoda dealer. Very polite but apologetic: "it needs to go on a ramp and we're booked up for the next 5 weeks!" Then drove to a local VW-Audi independent - Inde Tech - who said "give me the key and we'll have a look". 15 minutes later it was fixed with no charge - just a fastener had come adrift. I've used Inde Tech before and always thought their customer srvice was good. I'll be back.

High mileage?
You'd be better off looking/asking in the Superb Mark 2 forum as there's an awful lot that's significantly different from the Mark 3

What have you done to your Superb III today?
Just completed 1500 miles to/from the French Alps. 4 adults and a 5 year old, A full loadspace and with secondhand Mercedes roofbox with 4 pairs of skis. Weather on the way out was very windy in Northern France - horizontal windsocks, but improved on 2nd day. Arrived at destination just as it was snowing, but got away without snow socks or chains. On the day of the return journey, there was 6 inches of snow on the roads at 12:00 but by 16:00 when we left, it had gone and the roads were dry, such is the strength of the sun at that altitude. Typically drove at 75 mph on the autoroutes as wind noise from the roofbars/box became excessive at the legal 81 mph. Otherwise, there was only one short traffic jam on the A43 travelling west from Chambery. We have one of those Peage 'T' tags and as far as I recall we only had to stop once at a peage and then only for a few seconds. The worst hold up was for British/French border control at Folkstone - about 30 minutes. The car is an absolute joy to drive especially on the run up to the resort. There's so much power that the steep gradients are taken in their stride, even when heavily laden. As always, the busiest roads were in the UK - M20, M25, M1.

Loose interior object rattle
I suffered for moths with a tinkling noise that I was convinced was coming from the nearside of the car, probably low down. M passengers couldn't hear a noise on the nearside. Eventually I located it as the zip fastener pull toggle on a sunglasses case knocking against the inside of the sunglasses holder. This taught me two things. One, that it's tough to gauge the height of a nose and two, that the noise might be closer than you think!

Forgetting DAB Stations
My car has a Columbus unit and twice in recent months it has "woken up" having wiped the memorised DAB stations. It's easy enough to re-programme them, although one or two station logos aren't in the database and they have to be added manually. Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening?

Music on SD cards
Having now examined and fixed RSB's SD card on my Windows 10 PC, it's now sorted. Windows 10 saw two logical disks/partitions on the SD card. One with all of RSB's music and one which Windows wanted to format, but couldn't. The latter was a partition just 20MB in size. The music played fine on my PC but not on my car. I deleted the 200MB partition. Didn't help. So there was no real choice but to delete the music partition as well, AFTER I'd copied all the files to my computer. Then it was straightforward. In Disk Management, I deleted the music partition, initialised and formatted the card (exFAT) and copied the music back. It now worked in my Columbus. Hopefully RSB will have the card back in a day or two. It was an interesting challenge. I'd never seen a card with two partitions before!

Cam belt or chain?
Interestingly I bought my car from a salesman who'd come to Skoda from Audi. When I test drove the SIII that led me to buy mine I wondered aloud "why would anyone bother with an Audi". He privately agreed with me. A year or so later I had a long journey in an Audi A6. I didn't change my view!

Cam belt or chain?
Mine 220TSI was due for a new belt at 5 years and was duly booked in for the work. Fortunately they didn't change the chain and I saved £550. The apologised for their ignorance which I do believe was on the booking side and clearly not with the technicians!

Superb L&K 4x4 estate has anybody installed rear seats in the boot area?
Although not in a Superb, my daughter has a Multimac in a Ford Kuga for her four children - oldest 4, youngest twins 9 months.
