  1. So for an update, car went in to DMK today for this issue to be looked at. Started to wonder if I was maybe imagining things and expecting too much from the Octavia's 4x4 setup. However, got a call early afternoon from the service team to tell me that there is indeed a major fault with the Haldex, the clutch pump has failed so needs replacing as it is not engaging the rear drive. All under warranty thankfully but I am so glad I discovered this before the winter weather arrives as I bought the Scout to replace a Land Rover and need the all-weather capability due to my work with the ambulance service!
  2. Considering the amount of money you are parting with, buying a car is usually an awful experience. You can end up sitting there for hours on end while the salesperson goes to and fro with the 'business manager' to get figures. The whole industry needs a shake up, some people (I include myself in this) know exactly what they want and what price they are prepared to pay so don't want all the bull and the hesitance to commit to giving you a price unless you are ready to sign on the line. I recently visit LR to look at a Discovery Sport, when it came to figures they just told me to on line and look at the car calculator tool! I don't have time to spend days on end trawling the dealerships, I just want to send an email with the details of what I want and expect a quote in return, get the numbers right and I will buy - very simple!
  3. Thanks, I also find if I pull out of a junction sharply on a wet road I also get some wheel spin and little progress, other AWD cars I've driven pull away cleanly even in the wet as the systems often pre-load the haldex a bit to aid a standing start
  4. I don't have VCDS so can't check myself, under warranty so dealer will have to be contacted
  5. I wouldn't get too excited, even if you can enable it, other than the HDC the 4x4 is pants, see my post................ http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/411826-scout-off-road-4x4-system-issues/
  6. Took my Scout off road yesterday into a woodland site and I'm not sure the 4wd system is working properly on my car (2016 MY), either that or it's just rubbish!! I was attempting to climb a mild incline that was a little loose underfoot, made it a car length up and then as the weight transferred to the back and the nose was rising the front wheels started scrabbling for grip, this is where I would expect the Haldex system to sense the different wheel rotational speeds front to back and engage the 4x4 system to send some power to the rear wheels and asist the climb but no, the front wheels just spun frantically no matter what I did with the throttle, I tried holding it steady, backing off a little and accelerating a little but I got no obvious signs of any drive at the rear (a colleague was observing from outside the car and saw no rear wheel movement at all). I tried all modes including 'Off Road' but to no avail. On a positive note the hill descent system works well in reverse when using the 'failed hill climb technique! Now I'm a qualified 4x4 instructor so understand how to drive off-road and have driven this route numerous times in many vehicles and the Scout is the only one that has failed to make this hill. Any thoughts? Anyone else had a similar experience? I will get it checked at the dealers but am expecting them to say it's fine and that "It's not a SUV sir" but this fills me with no confidence if we are to get a bad winter and a snowfall
  7. 7pm is not really late is it, however I do agree that screaming and shouting so it disturbs everyone around is just not on. A lot of parents don't seem to worry or care about their kid's behaviour affecting others. There's too much of the "I want to so I will" attitude these days. I let my kids play in the garden on the trampoline, much better than stuck indoors on an X Box but I do not let them scream, shout or play loud music as I try to be considerate to my neighbours. Society in general is not in a great place, many people do what they want as they feel it's 'their right', respect for others is diminishing fast and it's not just kids, it starts with the adults. Take a look at aggressive driving for a start, it all begins with the adults and cascades down to the offspring.
  8. Perhaps someone needs to be sitting in the seat (i.e. is there a sensor to detect physical occupancy) before it actually sounds a chime etc?
  9. Air con condenser drain could be the source, not sure how it routes on these cars but its very common on the LR Discovery, a rubber drain tube comes away from the evaporator under the dash and the water ends up in the footwell. Would need to see a diagram of the components to know if that is a possibility though. Does anyone have access to a workshop manual or exploded parts diagram of the HVAC components in the dash/centre console?
  10. Interesting thread, in terms of reaching the 50% point for a VT, on a PCP is that 50% of say the 36 months of payments or does it include the deferred final amount too?
  11. If one dealer is being unhelpful and Skoda CS are offering you another I would go for that option, unless it's a massive inconvenience to travel there what have you got to lose?. I don't have a whine from the transmission or gearbox although I do have an inseccessant drone from the diesel engine!
  12. Your choice, unless it's a lease or company car you can change whenever you want (although it might be expensive of course!)
  13. Their cars are really stylish and capable but so expensive, a mid spec Discovery Sport will set you back around £35-£40k and it's frankly not worth it! I had a 24hr test drive when I sold my Discovery 4 (awesome car) but felt totally underwhelmed and the price was ridiculous. The Discovery 5 will be £50k+ as a start price! I'm waiting for the Kodiaq - looks great should be economical to run and price wise should be significantly less than the Disco Sport. If my lottery numbers came up however - the new Discovery 5 would certainly be on my list...........
  14. Enjoyed reading this post and agree that for an easier life just relax your driving style and let the aggressive driver in. However, I hate people carving in at the last minute personally, let's face it they are not consciously 'obeying the highway code' they are being aggressive morons who think their journey is more important than yours, but experience teaches you that it's more stressful trying to block their progress (and possibly failing) than to just let them in. I tried to block somebody once who came up the outside of me on a single lane road and tried to push in, I stood my ground and got into a battle, inching forward, they eventually made contact with my car and then sped off on the wrong side of the road, I didn't get their details and was left with a scrape on the front wing, it made me realise what a fool I had been. even though they were in the wrong, if I had just let them in it would never have happened. Since purchased a dash-cam!!
  15. oh well, I'll tell SWMBO you lot made me do it!!
  16. I'm not sure I follow your logic? if the GFMV is less than the market value then that's great news as it means the final amount you owe is less than it's worth so you have equity! If it's the other way round then you are stuck as you have no deposit for a new one so would have to stump up some cash, although some will do a zero deposit finance deal.
  17. Stop with all these lovely pictures!! My credit card is actually twitching and a deposit is going to be placed before long!!!!!!!!!
  18. Like it a lot, if the price is right I will seriously consider it. I would want a minimum of spec of 4WD, 7 seats with leather and LED lights, if it's more than £30k then I'm out though.
  19. I kind of like being an 'early adopter', bought one of the first runs of the LR Discovery 3 back in late 2004 and had no issues at all. It was nice to share early experiences with other owners too. Obviously there is a risk but think it's minimal.
  20. My first Skoda bought in June this year (Scout TDi 184 DSG), ticked all the boxes for me; 4x4 Auto Good fuel consumption - (doesn't normally go with the above!) Smart looks - race blue with the silver contrast mirrors and roof rails really works for me Comfortable Good value A bit 'different' Also, the interior and boot space, not normally a major factor for me but the way the boot swallowed up a vast amount of luggage, 4 people had legroom and a pleasant environment to sit in and it took us over a thousand miles across France this summer averaging 45-50mpg makes it a winner for me.
  21. Really excited about this car, have told my dealer I will place an order for an early build slot as soon as the books open as I'm so convinced this is the car for me! Traded my LR Discovery for a Scout DSG and whilst I love the Scout I miss the SUV looks, ride height and 7 seats! If it starts from £23k as rumoured then I'm thinking a mid spec 7 seater 4x4 variant should be available for around £28-30k so well under prices of rivals
  22. Pretty sure I will be going for one, absolutely love my '65 plate Scout but miss the higher driving position and presence of an SUV. Will wait to see prices and a physical car though!
  23. For £40 more I'd go main dealer and preserve the history. If the gap was a lot bigger then maybe switch but not for that personally.
