  1. they were referring to the rear camera cable; told me due to the way the hatchback boot is put together, they had to drill a couple of grommets etc to route the camera feed. Basically said 'don't try taking it out'. Given the cable is only £30 if I decide to remove it i'd just buy another and stash the existing one in the headliner (and use some fabric tape to stop it making any noise). The blackvue kits also come with a spare set of adhesive pads, so you can swap the camera into another vehicle (and they sell additional spares on their site).
  2. @mbames I had it professionally fitted; so no idea really! I'll take the side trim panel off the car tonight and take a look... will let you know if I can figure out where they pulled the feeds from.
  3. @arnold what make is your dashcam? Might be worth seeing if there's a 'wiring kit' for your specific make/model? I know nextbase have one but not sure about the others. FYI it cost me about £90 at a local vehicle electricians to have it fully installed. Warned me though that removing it from the Octy would be a nightmare so best to leave it!
  4. Think I'd need access to other units to figure it out... Skoda have their own portal for creating POIs but it's constantly broken...
  5. I put a quick visual guide together (based on the translations above); look for PDF attachment. might be useful? Any feedback is really appreciated;
  6. I've got a blackvue with a 'power magic pro' controller; you can set it to a specific minimum voltage (currently 11.8v) so when it's in park mode, it'll automatically switch off when it gets too low. Blackvue are also bringing out a battery pack of sorts for extended periods; haven't got one of those myself but they are certainly interesting.
  7. Really good job! If you're going to do this again at some point I can recommend some paint touch up tips like these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00ATPNSKA/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1496487727&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=touch+up+tips&dpPl=1&dpID=311lvg4mfGL&ref=plSrch The only way to describe them is they're like tiny dandelions! The paint doesn't glob to them and you can easily do a few chips at a time with them. I've done my own and the missus' car with these and they're probably the most handy thing I've bought in a while
  8. I can thoroughly recommend Bilt Hamber clay; i've used a hell of a lot of clay in the past and this stuff is one of the best. I mix my own clay lube (water and a bit of detergent to break surface tension) but any detailing spray will work just fine.
  9. and the rear... thinking of getting the exhaust tips powder coated too
  10. yeah I messed it up when painting it; I inadvertently removed the guide studs from the back so it didn't go on exactly right. I've straightened it since taking this
  11. think this is under Setup, system information (look for hardware version) http://www.skoda.se/SiteCollectionDocuments/Ovrigt/amundsen.pdf
  12. Hi everyone, I've put together a guide for loading Points Of Interest (POIs) onto the Amundsen stereo; this may work for other units. Please feel free to provide me with comments / suggestions thanks custom-poi-loading.pdf
  13. Here's my attempt at a guide for loading speed camera locations on the Amundsen; please feel free to make any comments / suggestions and I can always try to improve it. custom-poi-loading.pdf
  14. I'll take a look at throwing one together today...
  15. I've been playing with getting Camera locations working also; managed to get it running (using the VW utility in German and the PocketGPSWorld CSV database)... If anyone needs a guide i'd be happy to put one together.
  16. Just picked up a '16 Octy vRS; tried to get smartlink running and it's asking for an activation key. Dealers want £120 to unlock it. Kinda miffed as the model I test drove had it all enabled and it was part of the vehicle tour from the sales rep, and paying for what is essentially a software lock is a bit cheeky... So people who have it / use it: is it useful (as i've never used the feature)? I have an Android handset (Pixel XL) so would be using Android Auto... Cheers
  17. Well after another venture under the car; it turns out the pic above doesn't actually show a hole; seems its a bit of the stone shield stuff is casting a wierd shadow (as I quickly looked at it in poor light in my works car park i took it that it was a hole)... I've cleaned down the offending area; applyed some waxoyl (local parts shop was out of stone chip shield); i've got some on back order so will remove the waxoyl i've applied and then put the stone chip stuff on... thanks again peeps for all your advice; its what makes this place awesome...
  18. Top suggestion! i've opted for some EvoStik Hard and Fast Metal Putty; coupled with the rust inhibitor, expanding foam and underseal i think i can relax once it's done... glad we're in for a dry week too! Will post some pics in the guide thread when i complete the job... cheers peeps!
  19. I'm off for some underbody sealant at lunchtime; any suggestions as to what i can use to plug the hole? was thinking of removing all the frayed underseal, straightening out the bent parts as much as possible, using some P40 to backfill the hole; then treating it with some Waxoyl undersealant...
  20. Thanks for the advice; I hadn't checked the actual locale of the actual jacking point! Given that it seems to be punctured; is this an MOT failure? Am actually off to Costco this week so will snag a decent trolley jack; already have some axle stands!
  21. widomakers are called that for a reason...

  22. Well after a successful coolant swapout and getting the car back on the ground; I gave the car a turnover and a little revs... only to find that i popped one of the air charge hoses (securing clip wasn't in lock properly) Went to put the car back in the air using the standard scissor jack (a.k.a. the widowmaker) and boom... After a lot of cursing and swearing, and a few deep breaths being thankful I wasn't under the car... does anyone have some good advice as to what's the best course of action to repair this...?
