  1. Torque settings as follows: Top screws - 50Nm + 45 degrees Bottom screw - 130Nm + 90 degrees
  2. Anyone experienced this? Driving along; aircon set to cool (18deg)... Using the windscreen washers resulted in the fan speed (blowing through the vents) increasing (to a notable degree) for a few moments (like 10 seconds)... then it backs down... Like i said; totally random!
  3. Thanks for all the advice; mike - can i ask where you sourced your kit?
  4. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/H4-2-VIRTUAL-DAYLIGHT-XENON-HID-KIT-SKODA-OCTAVIA-/390282143372?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item5adea0e68c Anyone fitted a kit like this in an Octy II with projection lamps? My Octy has the lamps but standard bulbs. Also if anyone can recommend some LED sidelights (to stop the car looking twin temped!) My mate had a Honda Integra Type R and we fitted a similar kit on that...
  5. <RANT> sorry but just had to get this one off my chest... Just been to the White Rose shopping centre in Leeds to get some shopping; naturally bank holiday weekend - its heaving! Pull into car park to find people abandoning cars for lack of spaces; not being one of those inconsiderates i maneuver my car round them and proceed down one of the parking aisles... only to find some guy in a green fiesta sat in the middle of it, with his indicator on. I politely waited behind him for about a minute, but this time i'm blocked in from behind... The guy doesn't move... So i move a bit closer to him... The guy doesn't move... So i then decide to move around him; with what little space he'd left (bearing in mind i'm in the Octy; hardly the smallest of cars)... The guy doesn't move... As i drive past him he just looks at me; complete disregard to what was happening.... as i finally squeezed past him, he pipped his horn at me!!! i'd lost it by this point, got out the car and asked him what he was pipping me for!!! He looked at me blankly; with nothing to say... i got back in my car and drove off... GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!! </RANT>
  6. anyone got an 18" zenith for and Octy MkII for sale? PM me if you do!

  7. Just out of curiousity... my cold starting issues seems to have been resolved, by switching fuel providers! Very bizzare; been using Shell VPower Diesel since i got the car; always stuggled when its <4 deg... had to fill up with BP Ultimate yesterday (no Shell garage for miles)... was 2 deg this morning, started on first click..... no idea if this is a contributing factor (as there could be hundreds of possiblities) but just wondered if people were using Shell VPower......?
  8. Good Question... reckless driving, seen driving together... usual traits of criminals... If you were the owner wouldn't you want your cars back???
  9. Police stopped me and ran check on my Octy vRS; told me that they'd had an Octavia (non vRS) and Honda Civic stolen from a property in Rothwell; Anyone seem them contact West Yorkshire Police on 0845 606 0606

  11. Same here... 57 plate PD170... stutters like hell when it's cold start... 5 to 6 seconds later it fires up; engine idle increased to around 1100rpm (i assume to increase temperature of engine). Cycling glow plugs makes no difference. Parked car in sunshine yesterday at work and started fine when i came out to it after 6 hours... i've read in another post that it might have something to do with cracks found between the inlet ports on cylinders as well as some other leaks that weren't visible. It appears that water from the coolant system can ingress into the engine and freeze/thaw action causes the cracks to expand. Revision of heads are in circulation, and seems to affect <=57 plate Octys... Skoda are aware and unfortunately are not issuing recalls (case by case basis)
  12. why can't dogs look up?

  13. Update on bump I had - Broke bottom bar assembly on offside front; £238 Offside bearing assembly - £212 20k Service - £200 Diagnostic charge and labour - £200 Hopefully picking up this afternoon... Big thanks to DM Keith Leeds for squeezing this repair in before crimbo.... Ho ho ho....!
  14. Came out of drive this morning, Council not gritted road; let the torque set the car off in 1st... added the slightest amount of throttle to get it into 2nd... Car went broadside; corrected that but ran out of road and slammed into a kerb... Dropped it off at Skoda Dealer... Sheared bottom arm and needs 4 wheel alignment... £460... You have been warned! Merry Christmas!
  15. youngie do you have the maxidot display in your car, cos you can adjust some of the settings in the MFD menu (you hold down one of the stalk buttons - the ones that cycle the display (mpg, duration etc))
  16. I managed to shear a gearbox mount; caused tons of vibration... but i guess they'd have checked those during the inspection... Might be worth getting under the car with a torch and checking it out... or alternatively take it to a tuner who will probably tell you what the problem is right away...
  17. thanks guys... One possibility was when i put some washer fluid in the other day, i noticed that the engine cover was majorly loose... i've reseated it (but it didn't click into place properly) and the noise has disappeared... will try and get car in the air this week and check the gearbox mounts just in case... she's in at weekend for service so will keep you all posted... UPDATE: Pulled out of junction at lunch today (Monday) and seriously loud bang... car became rather noisy, and lots of vibration both through wheel and dash... Dropped it off at local Skoda dealer to investigate... UPDATE 2: Skoda Dealer inspected the car; turns out one of the gearbox mount bolts had sheared off completely... when enquiring as to why the other bolt wasn't holding it in place, they told me that there was only one bolt!!!! They have replaced all bolts though and also the mount (I suspect it was partially damaged or they have swapped it for a revised part). All done under warranty, and should be picking her up at lunchtime... Very lucky that no more damage was caused (see thread and post 29 above)... Thanks again peeps for the help and advice!
  18. Noticed a single knock when setting off from stationary in first gear... doesn't happen in any other gear though and not all the time. Possibly the gearbox mount but was wondering if this is something more sinister... Any ideas?
  19. Howdy, To do the conversion you'll need to replace both the carriers and calipers with the set off an Audi TT... The offset of the carriers for the TT caliper is different to that of the OEM Furby one... I got a set of Audi TT calipers and carriers off of eBay for £155... awesome price for them and went on a treat! (painted with flat green Hammerite; tip: give them 3-4 coats of paint otherwise temp fatigue can flake the paint off)... I got some 312mm Tar-Ox G88's and some Mintex Extreme pads to go with them... Experiencing many negative-G's now!!!! Bomski
  20. Howdy; I'm assming that the scuff is surfaced (i.e. you can feel it with your fingernail)... a relatively easy fix for a semi-decent repairer... If i remember correctly, my mate had some work done at Thomas Ritchie (Based in Fife); woork was very good (not on a skoda) and I didn't recognise he had an accident till he told me! address is: Ladyburn Place, Skinners Steps, Cupar, Fife KY15 4DY Tel: 01334 653277 Best bit of advice i can give is take some pics of damage and call garages, e-mail them the pics and get estimates... i've had a front bumper replaced and repaired and it cost me £400 (inc. colour matching)... should have shopped around!!!
  21. @ ric04vrs - yeah it was the new RS6... the guy was driving it like he stole it! (plus the ceramic brakes absolutely stunk!) rumour mill at the track was it has a Lambo engine in it... The most notable there was the Z4-esque BMW in full camoflague... turns out its the new Z8... not sure about any specs for it but it certainly wasn't slow!
  22. Nurburgring 2007 trip - a photoset on Flickr Went with a friend who has an Integra Type R... was horribly wet but still loads of fun! Defo up for another trip next year! Also got a vid of a whole lap that we filmed from both cars (will stick on YouTube at some point!)
  23. i've had a lot of fantastic results using Swissvax Zuffenhausen wax on top of some Klasse sealant glaze... its lasted 6 months so far and still beads (occasional top up with zuffenhausen) Collinite 746S is a detergent proof wax, and is reommended for crappy weather / motorway driving... i reckon the best bet for you is the meguiars gold class... but invest in a quality detailing spray (i use Chemical Guys Pro Detailer) tip: rinse car off with water or wash before detailing - i've dulled the paintwork when detailing without washing first!
