  1. Fair enough. Do you ever come near chepstow?!
  2. Thanks both, but the haldex is sorted. Just diff oils I'm wondering about...
  3. Thanks CC. Any idea on the recommended change interval? I can't find a definitive answer, just variations between every 40,000 miles and every 100,000 miles!
  4. Thanks both. The Haldex is sorted (eventually!) and the gearbox oil (on the rear axle, connected to the Haldex unit) was done too. But it sounds like the rear diff is separate to the gearbox, so I will look into that. Cheers.
  5. Hi all Just trying to confirm whether a 2011 Octavia Scout has a separate rear diff and gearbox? My mechanic changed the Haldex oil and the gearbox oil, but didn't do the rear diff! Is there one, or is the gearbox essentially the same as the diff on this car? Come to think of it, I assume the Scout has a front diff? Does anyone know the oil change intervals on the differentials? Thanks.
  6. I have tried Veew services in the past and found them very expensive. I also emailed them about Haldex filters a week or so ago but never heard back, so I'll give them a ring, thanks. And yes, the filter is the one in your link above, and there's also a guide to how to do it on the same site. But I don't have VCDS or a lift, so it's not something I can really do at home, unfortunately.
  7. Just been quoted £245 to replace the filter!! Cost is so high because garage insists on doing diagnostics on it first, as they don't believe the filter will be clogged enough to cause the hesitation when I pull away on full lock. They suspect a faulty pump, which I don't think is the case... I will see if I can get a VCDS check, though I'm not really sure how to interpret the results.
  8. Right. Mine is gen 4, and can't be cleaned - it does require a replacement filter, and apparently a garage with VCDS even to get the filter out. Bugger. Can anyone recommend a garage in the Bristol area that is familiar with these cars and can do a proper gen 4 filter change? I'll start a new topic as this one is going a bit off course!
  9. Sorry, meant gen 4 - updated title and post now. Gen 5 appears to be easier, as you can just clean the filter.
  10. Hi all As above - can anyone recommend a garage in the Bristol area that are familiar with the gen 4 Haldex system, including replacing the filter that doesn't officially exist?! Tried my usual garage and some specific Skoda garages, to be met with varied levels of bafflement. Several garages have contacted Skoda and told me that my car doesn't have a haldex filter - I know this is what Skoda officially says, but I also know the car does have a filter (as at https://www.haldexrepairs.co.uk/replace-generation-4-filter-andor-pump/) and I want it changed. I don't really want to be a guinea pig for some garage guided by the link above, I'd like someone who knows what they're doing and have done it before! Oh, and I don't want to go to a main dealer because I've not had good experiences with them in the past... Plus they say there's no filter to change anyway! Any suggestions at all? Thank you.
  11. Agreed on the sticky, but it doesn't seem to be that clear cut. Tmg's post I linked earlier has a filter that can be cleaned, and his car is 2012 (gen 4). Mine is 2011 (gen 4), and I think it has the cleanable filter, not the replaceable one... It doesn't help that Skoda themselves don't know, so when anyone asks them they say no filter to either gen 4 or gen 5.
  12. That doesn't look good! I thought that as you have a 2010 scout you'd have the filter that can't be removed, just cleaned... Mine's going back to the garage on Tuesday for them to have a go at cleaning the filter.
  13. Thanks chaps. Jacking it up makes sense. How freely should they spin though? I know on my old car the wheels never spun all that easily even when all was working fine! I'll spin them all and see how they compare.
  14. Contact the emissions fix hotline (unless that's who you're already in touch with?), there's a facebook group with the details called The Volkswagen Diesel Customer Forum - Emissions Scandal. My car had work done at an independent garage in the past and Skoda still covered the cost of the replacement EGR valve. They didn't get me a hire car as they should have done however, I didn't know that at the time so it was a bit of a hassle. Better than paying for the EGR though! And yes, you can get the "fix" removed - there's another FB group with info called EA189 Emission Fix Reversal Assistance Forum. Get Skoda to fix injectors and any other problems first.
  15. Carparts4less - same company as ecp, but chepaer. And you still get discount codes on top! I find that my front wiper on the driver's side doesn't press firmly enough so there's a less well swept patch in the middle of the screen. New blade didn't fix it, so I suppose there's not enough pressure in the spring holding the wiper against the screen...
  16. 2 years after the "fix" work is done, and 160,000 miles I believe. Good luck.
  17. Hi all As above! I'm trying to figure out if I have slight brake binding on the back of my car. (Octavia Scout estate). Rear discs are almost always warm / hot to the touch after a drive (even just a few miles), even the centres of the wheel hubs are warm. Nothing is glowing red hot or blistering wheels / smelling hot, so if it's binding it's not bad. But I'd like to know if hot rear discs are normal? Front discs are pretty cool to the touch, maybe lukewarm. Rear discs are hotter, and I thought the rear brakes did less work? (Though the discs are also smaller than the front discs so less thermal mass to heat up...) Am I being paranoid? Probably! But the rear discs and pads were replaced recently, so if they're not right I'd like to know so I can take it back to the garage. Cheers.
  18. Thanks Mikey Doesn't sound too bad if you can get under the car. Wonder if I could hire a ramp... I slightly fear making a start on it then finding out that my Haldex version matches the version on the haldexrepairs website and I need VCDS (which I don't have) to eject the filter, and can't go any further.
  19. A bit confusing, this - some people say Gen 4 haldex has no (accessible) filter. Some say it has one that can be cleaned but not replaced, as here: And some say it has a filter than can be replaced, e.g. https://www.haldexrepairs.co.uk/shop/filters/generation-gen-4-filter-kit-vw-audi-seat-skoda/ I've found an independent who say they can clean it, but it took quite a lot of toing and froing and them getting in touch with Skoda, so I'm not sure it's something he's done before. Doesn't inspire confidence, though a cost of around £50 is a lot better than £190! If I had a ramp I'd be tempted to have a go myself, but axle stands on the drive doesn't sound like much fun.
  20. Just spoken to another independent Skoda specialist garage, and they're convinced that my car doesn't have a filter! Think I have most of the tools, just a bit lacking in time!
  21. True. At least my usual garage will replace the caliper but don't feel the need to automatically replace the discs and pads, both of which seem OK to me...
  22. Cheers. Just been quoted £190 just to clean the filter! Might have a go myself at that money.
  23. My other generally reliable garage said to replace the caliper too. Apparently the caliper refurb kits now available aren't much good, and corrosion in the caliper is likely to lead to new seals failing fairly soon too? Pagid calipers don't seem to be too pricey, are they any good? And are there any better / cheaper sources than carparts4less? Many thanks.
  24. Did anyone bleed the system after replacing fluid / filter? Apparently there's a procedure in VCDS for this...
