  1. That's the one, it worked a treat, the pistons took a bit of getting going back but once they started they went in just fine.👍
  2. Just a quick hijack of this thread, I'm in the same boat as you and I changed my front disc's and pads and now on the rears, just been and got a right handed wind back tool for the piston, is this correct or is it a left hand tool I need? The packet says compatible with Audi and VW but not Skoda? Thanks in advance
  3. Thanks for your replies, I'll be removing the gunk and I'll be letting them know not to conjure up false add on's to bump up the bill in future. I would have been happier them trying to tell/show me that they were getting ready for changing, I could have done it much cheaper for the same Bosch wipers. If I felt they needed it.
  4. I've recently had my 2.0D sel Octavia in for a full service as the indicator was coming up. I was quoted 280 quid by a local independent garage. To my surprise when I collected it, they had changed the wipers, now I should have challenged this with them at the time but I don't believe the old wipers were not working as they should, last time I used them they were fine. Are wiper blades a service item? And secondly, the car came without a spare wheel, it had the gunk and compressor, I've since added a spare wheel and tool kit. Do I need to leave the gunk and compressor in for the MOT ? I'm wanting to remove the gunk as I think it is close to the date not that I would ever use it. Thanks in advance 👍
  5. Hi, my Octavia is pfl on a 67 plate, so I quite possibly followed the instructions you have found, it's a long time back now. If like you mentioned that fl models are different somehow, I'm not sure if you will be able to change it? Unless you can find another way in to the coding area where it sits for pfl models?
  6. Totally agree with this, I never looked any more into getting a CD player, I just ripped all my cd's to a good quality SD card and never looked back.
  7. Lovely motor Sasha, enjoy. I looked at a dragon green superb in the showroom back when I was searching for my Octavia estate, it was way out of my budget back then, but sadly I couldn't justify one now as I'm WFH and I have only been in to the office for less than 2 weeks in the last 12 months 👍
  8. Fortunately for me, my car came with the heated front and rear seats, so mine has the panel with the switches and the USB sockets. Picture below from my 67 plate estate.
  9. Lol, ramble away, people can choose to read it or not, some of us appreciate what is posted by others. I haven't been up (or down) that road in ages, iirc last time I was up that way was when I last went to the Magpie Mine. Interestingly Pott Shrigley now see's it's fair share of cyclists theses days. Tother night I was coming home and I passed a few cyclists climbing their way up to the top. They seem to ride up and over the top to the junction with the Macclesfield to Whaley road, have a breather and then go back down again, some summer evenings can be quite busy with multiple riders going for it.
  10. I'm glad I searched back and found this thread, I'm noticing that I'm getting this condensation forming in my headlight lenses on both sides. This picture was taken after a 39m trip a couple of nights back. I was starting to get worried about it, but I'm quite reassurred now after reading this. I'll just be keeping a watch of this to be sure it doesn't worsen.
  11. Snap Not much snow was had in town, however Alfreton had a fair sprinkling, but I never needed to go out in it (lockdown rules adhered too) There's a pretty steep hill up to Riber Castle, I don't fancy that in any car in winter Over the last few weeks I've been back at work over in Cheshire. Just a few days each week. Typical that after WFH since last march I get requested to go back on site during the worst weather we've had in months. I'm still glad I chose the Michelin cross climate+ tyre's for my Octavia estate. They really come in to their own in these lower temperature's. On my commute I go 'over' Pott Shrigley, that is one high up place. (Not sure what it is above sea level) They have had a lot of drifting snow and due to the sheer volumes of water running off the fields, its almost like a constant running slurry of slush running down the road. Nice and steady going up and down saw no dramas. (Traction control was on too) I will definitely try turning it off next time to see if it helps? It's interesting to see different people's views on this, especially locals who see the same conditions that I see.
  12. Hi Mark, here is a screenshot of the long coding from my history, hope this helps 👍
  13. Great, the junk can stay in the trunk 😂👍 it'll save me faffing about then.
  14. Thank you all for your replies, I'll leave the compressor and the bottle of gunk out of the car when I present it for the MOT. I guess I'll have to move some of the junk out the boot so they can get access to the spare seeing as they need to see it if it's there.
  15. I did exactly the same, having looked on eBay the wheel and tyre was cheaper, just but with the tool kit and secure fixing it was more cost effective to get them from the dealer. A few months later after getting a full set of cross climate tyres fitted, I ended up with a puncture close to the sidewall, the spare wheel was fitted and worked a treat. So in my mind it's already paid for itself.
  16. I have changed the lux setting on my auto lights, so basically they revert back to dipped beam earlier as these led lights can dazzle like a gud un for the poor unsuspecting oncoming drivers. And another one with the front lights is that you can change the mph threshold for the full beam activation, basically because (when I travel to work, currently I'm WFH still since march) I travel a lot of small country lanes to and from work, so I have reduced the mph threshold so the full beam comes on at a lower speed, rather than the factory set speed, iirc it's set at 40 ish plus mph Also I have enabled the "other" rear fog light so I have one on both sides now rather than just one side. (You should find the bulb is already fitted) Also useful for summer or when a rain shower occurres out the blue is the remote button long press to lower or raise all the electric windows while simultaneously locking or unlocking the car doors. There is a stereo enhancement, iirc it adds an extra bass control to the standard stereo system. These are just a few of those that"may" be possible, it all depends on the factory fitted equipment you already have. Good luck and enjoy, plenty of info on here and some stickies with lots of info.
  17. My 67 reg Octavia estate is booked in for it's first MOT early next month, since I have had it I've added a dealership sourced spare wheel and tool kit. The question is, "will the MOT requirements look to test the car on the spec as it left the factory?", ie with the compressor and the bottle of gunk needing to be present, or will that be overlooked in lieu of a spare wheel and tool kit being present?" If any of you decent folk could advise that'll be great, I have been meaning to call the MOT place for the last few weeks but work keeps me from remembering lol. Thanks in advance 👍
  18. Update, new CR3025 battery fitted today and it's working again, I will be making certain that I keep these batteries in as spares. I'm glad I have 3 key's for the car and all are working again 👍
  19. Hi NZ I can't check the voltage since because I'm in lockdown and my voltmeter isn't here with me, I'll have to check these batteries when I can. I'll also try and polish the batteries and try to insert them using a cloth, I did handle the batteries, but only lightly. I'll try again and report back later 👍 Thanks for your suggestions
  20. I'm having the same issues with one of my key's, I've swapped the battery three times now, but no red light coming on when pressing any of the buttons. I've seen on the net that you can/should be able to unlock/lock the drivers door, by flipping of the cover to expose the key hole and this will resynchronize the key. Well I've just tried this to find it unlocked the door and that the alarm works a treat 😬 I've polished the batteries and even used a cotton bud to clean the contacts inside the key, but no amount of polishing the batteries and or trying to resynchronize the key seems to work, I'll be trying to get some new cr2020 or cr2032 batteries next time I go out to get essential supplies, I'm just glad that I have another working key , otherwise I'd be stuck. If anyone else has had this issue and managed to resolve it i'd like to hear from you and what I need to do.
  21. I read somewhere that after a certain version of Android it needs the phone to be connected to the car with the OEM USB cable to the main USB point on the dashboard, I use this all the time now rather than rely on the Bluetooth connection, no issues here, I'm on a Google pixel 3XL and a 17 plate Octy Iirc this is something to do with the volume of data required between Spotify and the head unit to enable full continuity.
  22. Costco have the money off deal on Michelin tyres this month, worth a look. I got circa 23,000 miles just over on my last pair of cross climate tyres on the front of my Octy estate.
  23. From your link I noticed the below, I wonder what simpleton thought up this one? Or where they got their facts from? Partly worn tyres are more likely to experience punctures – particularly in wet weather conditions iirc, kwik fit are in the business of selling tyre's. This is baffling with bull in my eyes. Only my opinion mind. I have been a Kwik fit customer on many occasions, every time I have been a customer in one of their centers I have witnessed them on the heavy sell tactics on a young unsuspecting female, "well this needs doing and that is not really safe for much longer, etc etc" I even knew an ex kwik fit fitter who had to leave because he didn't agree with their heavy selling tactics. Each to their own and we all have to live and learn, hence why I don't use them anymore.
  24. Costco said the same, they'll fit to the rear only because that is their policy. No mention of insurance, but the fitter agreed with my reasoning and he suggested that I swapped them when I got home. As I did. I'm still here to tell you about it. Sometimes you just need to be honest with yourself, can you always ensure that you are disciplined every time you venture out on the roads? If you can't then don't think for yourself, just do as someone else tells you to do.
  25. Last January I had to make a call, my Dunlop sport max tyres on the front of my Octavia were in need of changing, I commute daily from one side of Peak District to the other to work, an 80 miles round trip. I'd started struggling getting up hill and down dale because of the snow and ice on the roads. Costco had a money off deal on Michelin tyres. So I had a pair of cross climate tyres fitted, as their policy is to fit them to the rear to prevent the back end sliding out, I swapped the fronts to the rear and rears to the front when I got home, so that the Michelin cross climate tyres were now on the front. Instantly better, not once did I find I was struggling to get to work or anywhere else for that matter. I know my limits, the cars limits and capabilities and I drove in accordance with the conditions. Those Michelin cross climate tyres were replaced this January when I had wore them down over circa 23,000 miles. I had a full set of Michelin cross climate tyres fitted and I am more than happy with the decision. But I can certainly say, I would have a pair of cross climate tyre's fitted to the front again in a heartbeat with summers on the rear. It's not rocket science, just be sensible in cold conditions, simples. I'm shocked to see how many people have slated this, obviously this is down to I'll informed advice off the internet and not from first hand experience.
