New style badges for Octavia mk2
I think i have seen a badge from another model, maybe a Scout that has the locator pins in the right place. I'll check on that first before cutting off any pins! My alignment skills might not be the best!

New style badges for Octavia mk2
Hi Gissin, Purchased the front badge but found it doesn't fit because the locator pins are in the wrong place. On my grille, they mounting holes are 180 degrees across the centre. Another was also recommend. Part 3V0 853 621 FOD, but locator pins were again not in the right place. I know there is a badge that fits because I had one. Unfortunately no longer do I have that because the garage that put my new grille on said the old badge could not be recovered. It looked alright to me before they broke it trying to get it off.

VW group fasteners, mostly plastic; images and part numbers
Its a pity it doesn't seem to cover SKODA clips. So difficult to get a handle on this stuff. I've been looking for some little beige button clips that are used to hold the grille on Octavia mk2. You'd think they would be easy to get. No! I've been looking for the dogleg cable carrier that doubles as a firewall retaining clip. Easy to get surely? No. Frustrating? Yes!

Cable clips, fasteners & small plastic parts
Hi all. Hope you're all doing really well today. I'm looking for some cable clips that fit on my firewall and carry cables but they are also shaped to hold the firewall up. They plug into the two holes at the back of bulk head like the photo. They're strange dogleg shape as they are dual purpose. I'm still struggling to find those outfits that carry VAG fasteners as I also need a plug that covers my wipe nuts. Someone stole them. Anyone got some cool sources for all this small plastic stuff? Thanks

Thanks for that Breezy. Yes, 'refreshing' was a bit flippant and just about keeping it simple. I do want to get across many bolts clamps and clips. People think I am a bit mad. The SKODA dealer asked why I didn't just buy a new car if I want my engine to look so good. I don't understand these folk. Maybe I am a bit mad. Maybe I am OTT or have one of those conditions like OCD.

Thanks very much Breezy. Its reassuring that we are coming to the same conclusion when even the dealer doesn't seem to know. How useless my SKODA dealer is. They can't even manage to sell me parts that fit. They can't even get a collection of screws and nuts together so I can refresh my engine bay. That's my next bit of research. Who carries proper nuts bolts and fasteners? Have you had any experience in this respect Pete?

Inspecting repairing front bumper support and securing front bumper to the bumper support rail.
I've been hunting for the right part at the right price @Breezy_Pete and I turned up one with the suffix C, brand new for £47.44 + delivery of £8 and customs duties and taxes and collection fees from Germany bringing the total to £117.51 which seems quite a lot. Then I found this one which Autodoc said was just £8 delivery and didn't mention anything about duties and taxes. I couldn't see any of the PR codes you listed. I noticed that this large piece of metal is all quite wavy and inprecise looking. Is that normal? The breakers are a bit hit and miss when I ask questions about a part. They generally don't know very much other than its metal.

Thanks Mike, My bumper has this honeycomb grille design so I think it is as you have identified above. I have looked for P codes to identify parts more specifically to my build of the Octy. I have reproduced my build sticker here and can't see a code there that corresponds with 2xx. How should I proceed at this point?

Thanks Breezy_Pete. As my car is a VRS, I presume (I know I mustn't do that) it may have 'sports bumpers'. I do come across some very strange names for VAG parts, often not intuitive at all. Anyway will take a look at that sticker in the boot just to make sure my sports car doesn't have comfort bumpers @Breezy_Pete! Thanks for that guidance. I now see that the long piece of plastic across the back of the slam panel that holds the air intake in place has also been broken by the mechanic. Can anyone imagine smoke coming from my location?

Thanks Mike. I noticed there are two parts with similar numbers. The one you gave 1Z0 807 109 C and 1Z0 807 109 D. How do I know which one is right? The page appears to be for Octavia but the second item mentions Scout. Ne'er did so much mystery abound as in VAG part number suffixes

I'll take another photo and hopefully you will get your bearings. The headlight is not above the damage I am referring to. Let's see what I have come up with here.... Do these give you your bearings? What are you trying to do? I'm just going to take my bumper off to replace the crash beam. This nasty bit of damage you can see in the second photo ruined it.

Inspecting repairing front bumper support and securing front bumper to the bumper support rail.
Hi again, No there is no panel gap under the headlamps. I suspect you aren't visualising the space we are talking about. It can only be seen with the bonnet open. Also the rust you see is a result of the damage from someone's hook on the barely painted crash bar. The part is not visible unless you stand right over the centre of the front bumper and look backwards because the frame is under the bumper. The recovery vehicle tried to put the hook over the crash bar having opened the bonnet to do so. Very sloppy. Indicates they had no knowledge of how to secure the vehicle. If you ever need to be recovered, always stand over the guy, male or female, to make sure they are not doing what you do not agree.

Does anyone have a source for XZN or triple square screws. Accu don't do them and a search on the net only seems to yield the driver bit sets. This is a mystery. Is XZN proprietary or owned by a company that only produces them for its own applications? After all VAG vehicles have these XZN screws all over the place. Any tips, much appreciated, as always,Mike :)

That photo is taken from above, facing the front of the car, looking over the plastic top edge of the front bumper and back to see the metalwork beneath. That is what the person tried to hook onto. As for the rust, it starts off bright when its new, so I know the damage was recent. I know the damage was recent because I am always over my car and this would be so obvious, as it was when I noticed it, shortly after my car was returned. As rust gets older it goes darker. Fresh rust is never dark. This is the same no matter what surface it is on except aluminium in which case it is oxidation that gets whiter. Towing hook always in the inbuilt tool box in the polystyrene container, however, many Octavias do not have a toolkit at all, just a bottle of tyre inflator and an emergency kit.

Thanks JR. Useful information there. Now I have a measure of the situation, I'll not spend time trying to straighten the damage. I find it shocking how badly informed or educated are some recovery outfits. One was going to pull my car back onto the truck by putting a rope around a beam under the rear seats on which there is a label that says 'Do not jack or load this bar', or something to that effect. If I hadn't known that and been standing there, maybe my car would have ended up at its destination with a pointy roof! As you can see, this was lovely and unrectifiable. What was the answer I got? "Well, its a twelve year old car. I wouldn't bother about it". There were a lot of fumes but I managed to keep them in my fume cylinder, until I walked away and talked to the grass.

Amazingly helpful. Thanks very much Mic Mac. Looks like they broke the largest part under bumper (the support rail) as the bumper support rail only comes as one rather large part.

This basically defines what I wish to do. Some idiot did a recovery on my car and put a hook around the bumper rail to tow it and pull the bumper rail out of shape and unable to fit the front bumper properly. Does any member have access to drawings that show the structure underneath the front bumper. A garage did a good job of making it worse, seemingly unable to ensure the bumper is secure and the shut lines are right. It is a bit of a nightmare trying to discuss parts with main dealer. They just aren't geared up to interface with a consumer who does his own repairs or maintenance. I think I may need to use skoda-parts but that attracts customs. I may be able to order through TPS account my fitter has with them. Obviously first I need to make sure I know as much about the front bumper of the 1Z3 FL version and be able to identify the structure onto which the front bumper mounts. Got to get the mess sorted out so I am waiting for a rather cool day as I suspect this is much more complicated than removing the rear bumper. Have any of you had your Octavia stripped down to this level? Rich

Modifactions to Diesels
I agree with all those here expressing conservative views and also of course the legal issues. There are a lot of things one can do to an Octavia that are subtle. Your engine bay says a lot about how you care for your car. In there however, are lots of opportunities to change nuts and screws that are looking past their best. Long as you don't do silly attention grabbing nonsense you can keep your Octy looking as nice as it is for a long time. Familiarise yourself with areas in which you might want to replace the part or perhaps change the colour of the leds in part of your instrument cluster, uprate the carpets. See if you can improve sound insulation coming from the road. You might like to change the shocks and springs. However, whilst changing them may not cost you a hike to your insurance you still need to talk to your insurance and make sure they know you are not putting on parts which are not so suitable for road use. A stage 1 remap is discreet, but for the extra you might get on stage 2, is, to be honest, a trade of whether you think the extra performance is worth it, likeable, and indeed agreeable with the insurance. People who do stage 2 get caught out not declaring, stage 1 is invisible. One might buy a car with stage 1 without realising it. At present, its not necessary to declare it to DVLA. I wouldn't wrap the top half of the car. I think that would really spoil the super clean lines shown off in this lovely shade of white.

Firewall and cable fastenings
More fabulous research @mikethethinker . It really helps me delve deeper. I feel like the bloke that lost all this stuff should find it and put it back. Now I can point him to the items. I'll do some more checking, but knowing the firewall is actually the 'transverse damper' at least has me speaking the same language to the parts people. I love the way a Golf is used in the Octavia diagram. Thanks for all the time you commit to these matters for members like me. Rich

Firewall and cable fastenings
Does anyone happen to know what are the fasteners or fixings to hold up the firewall and acoustic felt. I cannot see anything that would hold it up. I have a great pictorial from @MikeTheThinker formerly posted by @toot but don't see what would be used here. Perhaps there are fixing holes just out of sight but tell me if this is wrong...SKODA dealer says the engine needs to be removed to fix up the firewall material! This is how my car was left when someone tried to take it down to see how to fit a heater radiator and didn't bother to consult BRISKODA or even some other directions. When the DPF regen starts I have to open my windows because this insecure firewall covering just lets fumes come in the cabin. I can't really tell where these fumes come from. It appears that it is somewhere behind the DPF so its a great place for those fumes to just go into the cabin, but where from do those fumes originate? I can always remember a kind of hot smell of something when the DPF was doing its thing, but never fumes. If anyone has a line drawing that shows the parts around this bulkhead area that would be great. If you look to the right end of the bulkhead in the video you will see there is a rectangular space where it appears another piece of felt should fit. Not being a total expert at forensics, it appears something was there, by reference to the indentation line, in the same way as it appears something was fastened to the left end, the indentation being the giveaway, but I'm trying to find out what these parts are and how it was all fixed. Have you ever received your car back and found that instead of satisfaction with the job you had done, you are fuming over the work that was unnecessary or unfinished. They even broke the cover for centre console in the left side footwell. I can still fit it back without a visible problem if I can understand how the fixing clips work, which way to align etc. These are the kind of things where Haynes is often not very comprehensive! Thanks to all contributors! Rich video_2023-03-04_12-39-11.mp4.fa0ba09a83069871313a7f3ba03551b1.mp4

- Firewall and cable fastenings
This is a very interesting pictorial recognition. It helps me a lot. Many Thanks @mikethethinker. You are the research King. If you don't know it, it appears you know where / how to find it. One day I will grow up to be a big boy in upper school, with lots of knowledge. It was at least the second time you have come to my rescue. My SKODA dealer just doesn't think I could be serious that I want the small fasteners and told me if I need them to get them I would have to accept a pack of many of them (maybe up to 100). I do not think this is what SKODA expects do you? - Firewall and cable fastenings
