  1. It performs a reverse parallel park manoeuvre. You pass the space, stop and put it reverse. It then it takes over steering while you do the pedals.
  2. It's the auto park feature. There is a button next to the sensor/camera button near the gear selector for this. Tried it once. Didn't offer much other than stress. Never bothered again.
  3. Are you losing any engine coolant? I hope it isn't this but could be the heater matrix leaking. Other things to check: Under boot floor Drain holes in scuttle at bottom of windscreen
  4. I struggled to find them for 18 inch wheels on my Superb. Didn't even try for the 19s on our more recent Passat (same size as yours I think). I think you will need to go with socks. The main thing is winter tyres. We have driven to the Alps for 5 years. Initially on Cross Climates and more recently on full winters. Never used the socks. We go to a resort at a similar altitude, had to dig the car out to come home a couple of times in Feb. No probs on the road, the French are all over it.
  5. Trying to remember but I think it was something to do with being in the seat or not. If you reach in and push the button, it will move to the memory position from a single click. If you are sat on it, you have to keep your finger on it. Like I say, from memory (couldn't get a decent price on a Superb this time so in a Passat). I think it makes sense from a safety perspective
  6. I can only assume it's intentional at this point. VW Passat is the same... Annoying as I use it to make it more comfortable for passengers. It helps with the nodding effect that comes with sudden accelerator lifts which helps with car sickness (for me anyway)
  7. Hold down the voice recognition button to trigger AA voice recognition (instead of the built in Skoda). When it makes the sound, single click the same button again to cancel. You should be left in AA. This has been the best I can come up with.
  8. Also, unless it's the 4x4 top end version, it will just provide even more annoying scrabbly wheelspin. I found it embarrassingly easy to break traction quickly exiting a junction in mine.
  9. The sucking through and gnashing of teeth [of tyre fitters] has generally put me off changing tyre size away from standard. Sensible hat on, are there any insurance issues? I got enough ear ache off one guy about the Cross Climates. "Oooh not the same as a proper winter tyres mate, where I live in North Wales you'd get stuck with these". Response: "I agree that full winters would be better on snow and ice but 1. I'm also from the hills of North Wales and don't be silly, maybe once every 20 years. 2. I've used the cross climates in the Alps. Didn't get stuck". Some of these guys think they work for a WRC team selecting tyres. My new tyre place just changes them for £15 each
  10. I had Michelin cross climates. I drove to the Alps 3 times. Never had problems. Wear wise, I put 20k on them and then sold them with 4mm left. However, I'm not really an hard driver. New car now and I managed to pick up 4 premium, full winter tyres at a bargain price. I'll just switch at the start/end of winter. Better in the Alps but more of a pain.
  11. I was under the impression that slow charging = good for the battery? Not sure it's great for the socket it's plugged into though. Especially if it's an outside socket with a cover, so no airflow to cool it.
  12. I've taken up the practice of throwing a tank of super premium diesel in, every x tanks. I believe the only difference is the detergents added.
  13. The wall sockets in your house can probably deliver upwards of 3000 watts (13 Amps). Appliances only take the current they need. Voltage on the other hand is different plugging a 12v device into a 230v supply would result in fireworks. 12v supplies in cars are limited by the wiring in place and the fuse. The fuse should be small enough to protect the wiring. 100w at 12v is 8 or 9 amps. Assuming that the inverter isn't 100% efficient, we are probably over 10 amps. For 200w you would need to double this. You'll need to check that this is ok in you vehicle. I'd also put some margin in for safety.
  14. I've gone from a 2.0l TSI Superb to a 240ps Passat diesel. Both drive very similar from a dsg gearbox perspective. Bit laggy when pulling away but as said, knocking it into sport helps a lot.
  15. The Wife's megane does this on occasion. Usually when it's damp and cold. It was put down to "the new eco friendly clutch lining materials". Does it have the problem at other times? Like pulling onto dual carriage ways in a high gear and putting your foot down hard?
  16. Where is the parent based? I do hope this "debt" isn't a way to funnel profits out of the UK without paying tax....
  17. Didn't BMW used to have a feature where the higher ranges of the rev counter gradually illuminated green? as the engine warmed up? Maybe they still do?
  18. No, I suspect that less than half of new owners have any inkling about such things. If the dealer even mentioned it at pickup they didn't listen. They then thrash them out of the dealer gates and out of every junction thereafter. I'm not aware of an epidemic of failed engines as a result. It'll be fine I'm sure.
  19. Yeah hybrids do look attractive. V60/90 T8 would be nice not exactly what they had in mind for the reduced BIK but hey...
  20. Is it getting in the way of all that sweet sideways action you had planned for your Superb?
  21. In Wales they pump water up to a reservoir at the top of a mountain when there is spare capacity on the grid. Then when every household (not ours, we won't have that brain rot on) puts the kettle on during Coronation street, they dump the water back through the turbines and bolster the grid with lots of lovely Welsh electrons. €20k is waaay too much extra. This would have been my next car. I think they've been smoking something the green party grew on their allotment.
  22. I'm not sure it's even greed. It turns out that putting people who's only talents are owning a terrible suit and liking the sound of their own voice in charge, doesn't end in success. We should have 1/10th of the councillors we have but pay 10x as much and make it a prestigious job that is accountable for their performance. It should be an aspiration to become a councillor not something people mainly do in retirement. Sigh. I'll put my soapbox away now.
  23. Always been happy with Eurocarparts :( I had to send Mrs G to them last winter for her Megane as I was working and she wanted a working car. They found a great deal on a Bosch battery, carried it to the car and secured it in the boot for her. I fitted it when she got home in 10 mins as it was predictably the perfect one for the car. Sad loss if they go.
  24. I've not been myself but I have friends who have been to Japan in recent years and won't stop going on about how amazing the snow was.
  25. Not that specific issue but one of the posts suggested dropping the notes screen resolution down from WQHD+ to a lower setting. Worked like a charm, all back to normal. Will have to check if they have resolved it periodically. Cheers!
