  1. Used prices are dipping big time on the O3's think supply has now exceeded demand, I say blame all these ex hire vehicles that are now beginning to flood the market.

Was offered 14,250 for my near year old 2.0 Elegance estate manual with 18k miles, 15k attainable if I bought another car off the dealer so yeah its fair to say residuals arent brilliant. So after a year im up to my ears in negative equity, though a minimal deposit and the 0% deal PCP havent helped that cause. Rather a departure from my Blackline which I sold for nearly 17k after a year, it only having cost me 20k brand new.

In which case my head shall remained firmly buried in the sand! :D

  2. I think it is a good buy at that price; I hadn't realised they could be had for so little. I don't think you'll be left for wanting all that much. I should imagine cruise control can be retro fitted if you are really keen to have it.

I wouldn't worry about the 1.6 TDI come resale time. More and more people are choosing these smaller engines over the 2.0s so there is a definite and growing market for them.

  3. We love ours! It is great! We've owned the car for 8 months and I think closed the blind once - it just brightens the interior and is so cool. Moreover, given the fixed headrests of a vRS we found that it made the rear more airy for passengers. You can tilt it open if you don't want a full opening. That said, a late night blast at 70+ with the roof open was pretty cool! I've not noticed any weight gain; and I really doubt you would to be honest.

  4. I have run both back to back on the same car, the DTUK box was a good compromise to the Shark Performance map but a compromise non the less.

The DTUK CRDt+ improved the car but the Shark Performance remap transformed the drivability of the car, it's completly your choice but that is my honest appraisal of the two products.

Just when I thought I'd come to a decision, you through me back in the opposite direction!

  5. Hmm... Still not clear. It's not a straight forward decision then.

I suppose to be fully legit you should keep it totally standard. But I can't help thinking that some extra power would transform the car.

The tuning box appeals to me because you can remove it before taking it to the dealers, ethically correct or not, but on the other hand the shark remap would seem to be more "proper" solution.

  6. And henceforth commences another map-war thread

Shall I order the popcorn now?

Whoops. Sorry, that wasn't my intention. I just don't really get the difference in the tuning offered and am trying to work where to spend the money in order to get the best (which isn't necessarily the fastest car) results.

I wouldn't remap a car until it was out of warranty personally , the risk of td1 is just too high

    td1?

  7. Good evening all.

So with Shark Performance releasing figures from their remapped vRS TDi, I've been looking into unlocking more potential from my own car.

    Standard Figures

    BHP: 184bhp

    Torque: 380nm

    Shark Performance Figures

    BHP: 235bhp

    Torque: 469nm

    Cost: £649

    DTUK Tuning Box Figures

    BHP: 230bhp
    Torque: 470nm

    Cost: £389

Now I'm the first to admit that I don't know a great deal about this as I've never tuned a car in this way. I gather the Shark Performance upgrade is a remap and the DTUK is a tuning box which works by fooling the standard mapping - is that correct?

Are Shark Performances maps good enough to warrant the extra £260? I've always been impressed by their work but, understandably, I don't want to part with £649 unnecessarily.

Also, how do these modifications sit with the warranty, during ownership and at trade in time?

And do they improve MPG at all?

    All thoughts and suggestions welcomed.

Nice to see a mix of old skool and new skool!

  9. I was with Admiral for a number of years. I insured my Rapid with them when I was 19 and no one else would touch it and then when we got a vRS (at 21) they were the cheapest insurer still; beating all of the specialists. The multi-car policy is great too and I always found them easy to deal with and happy to oblige.

It is only now that I am 25 and able to get a fleet policy for the classics that I am no longer with Admiral.

  10. I'll have to think about this - it's a bit of a trek just to get there! Loved driving around the Elan Valley & the B4574 not long after I got the Yeti, and I've been itching to go back.
