  1. I think that's going to be the sensible compromise, something along those lines. I'm not sure the under seat subs give you all that much extra kick tbh. With the boot the size it is, it makes sense to use the cubby hole where they put the Canton sub, so it may well be I'll add an active sub only.
  2. Generally speaking a sealed enclosure would provide better bass and mid response from smaller speakers, but it's not always the case. You wouldn't have to replace your head unit btw, but it may be worth adding a 2 or 4 channel amp into your set up. Nowadays you can get amps that are remarkably compact yet compromise very little on SQ. At the end of the day though, these are only £40 speakers. There will be limitations at that price. I wonder what people are comparing it to who said they're happy with the bass produced?
  3. Amazing feat of engineering your motor, mate! That must catch some people out
  4. Just been showing my two boys these photos. 'Sick', apparently, according to them. I agree. This is probably the best looking Sportline in Britain atm The 350bhp chip will suit its looks. I couldn't persuade my missus to get one in radioactive urine though, nor could my boys.
  5. Haha. That's how it is with the likes of Bose and Dre Beats. Hype makes you hear stuff that isn't there. At the end of the day, if you can't notice the difference, there's no need to spend the extra money, whether it be the Canton or anything Personally? I noticed a significant difference. But then I'm ridiculously fussy, and music is my main interest in life. The average person on the street may not notice any improvement.
  6. Looking at the specs there are two things that stand out mate. 89db sensitivity, and the shallow cone. That's a pretty damning combination if you want good bass response. Obviously the shallow cone is so that these will fit in several OEM locations without too much messing around. The biggest problem is likely to be your sensitivity. Generally OEM speakers are pretty sensitive so they can make the most of the (generally) meagre power output of the stock head unit. They will probably be something like 92db, which although doesn't sound a lot, it's a bit like the Richter scale. There's a noticeable difference between 89 and 90, for example. It's your bass response that requires the most power. With regard to the position, the magnet and the performance, the key elements to good bass response are a solid mounting and an air tight enclosure. Generally speaking these are pretty difficult to achieve without custom spacers/purpose built rings and sealing/covering gaps in the door so that the door and the door card becomes an enclosure. I've never known of problems with magnet proximity but I'll bow to somebody's better judgement. These speakers are designed to perform well in tight spaces in doors, so.... In summary? Everything you've mentioned are potential issues except the magnet, however, by far the biggest problem is likely to be the sensitivity. Anything below about 91db really needs a separate amp to drive them sufficiently. 89db and 45w nominal is going to handle something like 50w - 100w RMS per channel, and isn't really designed to perform below an input of around 30-35w per channel RMS. At a GUESS, I reckon your head unit is giving them 15w per channel or less..... There's your issue.
  7. I think this one would be a decent alternative as well: https://www.pcworldbusiness.co.uk/catalogue/item/N114527W?from=category&heat=title
  8. Thanks for this mate. This'll take my entire digital library. Just out of interest, how much sorting do you have to do? I take it that it'll just work like your PC without using iTunes etc. in that you'll have to create all your own folders and sub folders. Presumably, also, it'll list it as the file name rather than using any sort of 'recognition' hook up like iTunes would? Furthermore, can you search for a track/file by typing in letters in any way? Should be picking my Superb up this week so it'd be nice to prep my music up beforehand.
  9. Presumably when you install one of these, it's recorded within the vehicle computer? I'd consider one, but I'm just thinking about the warranty and the fact I've got the car on PCH....
  10. £60 for a sub, amp, 2 DECENT sets of component speakers and a central speaker? No way!! Anybody that knows Beats headphones knows what an overrated heap of crap they are anyway.
  11. Oh sorry mate, I thought I was replying to Danny57 I'm new here, haven't quite got the hang of it yet. In reality, in the race to be the number 1 of all Dannys, he's actually 20 in front of me.
  12. If you like dance music. House, Techno, or anything bassline - Hip Hop, Breakbeat, DnB. Then I'm certain you will be.
  13. Normally I'd agree with you simhub. But, having had many custom audio installs of mid-high end costing me a **** load over 25+ years, I know how difficult it is to get yourself a system which is so well suited to the vehicle's speaker positions and the layout/dynamics/materials of the interior. They've smashed it with the Canton on this one. To get it sounding so right normally requires MDF/fibreglass mounts and DSPs. I'd equate this to an aftermarket install costing three times as much. It's not just the components you're paying for - and even then, I'd disagree. You'd be looking at around at least the £600 mark for the speakers, sub and amp of equivalent SQ alone. Not including the head unit. Then when you add in such a high quality install/location/DSP you're suddenly into thousands.
  14. So, cut a long story short, we ordered a Sportline. I wanted the Canton upgrade, the missus wanted the car quickly, and the two didn't go together. The wives always win, as you know. Grrr... Being massively into music myself, I was very impressed with the Canton system on our three day extended test drive of a L & K. Particularly the bass, which was really nicely balanced up and controlled. The only OEM system I've heard that was definitely better (to my taste, anyway) is the B & O systems on Audis. I've heard Range Rovers, Dynaudio stuff in Volvos, BMs, Beckers in Mercs, allsorts and the Canton is really well put together. For £600, it's really very, very good. But I haven't got it. I thought the standard system is pretty good actually, as bog standard systems go. But it was no Canton. All about the control and the bass. Does anyone have any knowledge of whether you can retro fit it without TOO much hassle? Or, just the sub for a bit of extra guts? I miss it already! Cheers.
  15. Just like to say hello, and what lucky buggers you all are. Just had a 3 day extended drive of a 220 petrol L &K hatch in white (photo attached). Bear in mind I used to chauffeur for Audi's PR office driving Q7s and A8Ls mostly (including the W12) I was absolutely blown away by the Superb. Reminded me of my days in that job. Genuinely. So I ordered a Sportline Estate. Just a 150 diesel, sorry to disappoint you purists The missus will be the main driver in any case. You guys were on to something! Look forward to spending some time on here. Can't wait for delivery next week.
