  1. Cheers Stormchaser....a mate at work used to work in a bodyshop and says the easiest way to break the seal is with cheesewire ???...have to admit that's a new one on me...I was going to use my biggest crowbar
  2. Mine has just bubbled up too in the last few days, but it appears to be just the lacquer that is lifting. Got one of the neighbours who runs one of those mobile bodywork touch-up vans to have a look and he recommends having the whole spoiler re-lacquered. I had a quick look at how to remove the spoiler this afternoon, and removed the 2 small torx screws on the underside of the spoiler at one end, but it still didn't come loose. Are there some more inside the tailgate ??
  3. Looking at changing my original factory fitted rear pads this weekend as I am sick of having black deposits on the rear alloys and have just been quoted £15ish for Mintex ones or £26ish for Blueprint ones at Andrew Pages motor factors, and will be fitting them myself.
  4. Cheers Peeps....I do quite a bit of servicing for work colleagues and friends and get the vast majority of my parts from Andrew Page motor factors. Until recently they supplied Bosch pads as their top brand range, but have now changed to Mintex, who coincidentally I used to work for 25 years ago, so I might just give them a try. Re protecting the alloys, I cleaned, polished and sealed them when I got the car, and last week added a coat of Jetseal 109 to them, so they are well protected !!!
  5. Having owned my '09 pre FL vRS for almost 2 months now, one thing that is really annoying me is the amount of brake dust that accumulates on the rear alloys. The fronts seem to be okay, but the rears have black deposits on them within a couple of days of being cleaned, and it is VERY annoying. Does anyone have any recommendations for any low-deposit rear brake pads please ??
  6. If you clamp the brake line to the calipers you won't be able to push back the piston !!!!!!!!
  7. I was talking to a mate this week about car cleaning and polishing, and he said that he has recently used this stuff.... http://www.chemicalguysuk.com/Chemical_Guys_JetSeal_109_p/jet.htm I have never heard of it, but he says it's the mutts nuts, and the best stuff he has ever used !!. Has anyone come across it, and can recommend it please ??
  8. I guess you were just unlucky mate....however.....UPDATE - Got a text from the neighbour yesterday afternoon saying that DM KEITHS have agreed to refund him 50% of the bill as he was not happy with the service he received !!!!!
  9. Optic...I think you are referring to these.. http://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1423.l2649 In which case, no mate...I haven't touched the front fogs but am considering changing the VCDS setup so they come on as cornering lights ( I believe that can be done ???) What I am thinking of next is changing the front sidelights to LED's as the existing ones now look yellow when illuminated with the new DRL's, and also changing the no. plate lights to LED's too....any recommendations ??? Not sure what you're referring to about the "wiring behind the bumper" ???
  10. I went for these in the end..... http://www.philips.c...2820wledx1/prd/ They were a doddle to fit (once I RTFM, and realised that the easiest way to get to the back of the headlight was to pull the lever and withdraw it - after I had spent half an hour removing the air filter housing and trying to find a live feed into the back of the headlight !!!!!) Although the below pic doesn't really do them justice...they are very bright and also fit perfectly in the lower grille...
  11. Yeah...I appreciate what you're saying but for two to go in the same day....I think that's pushing it a bit !!!!!!
  12. Cheers chaps... Mikey, I also had issues with the coil packs on my Mk 1 Octy vRS...the first one went whilst it was still under warranty so I contacted Skoda Assist who sent out the nice AA man in his big yellow van, and he replaced the faulty coil pack (no.1 I think), but the second one didn't go until a good few months later, and I then traced it and replaced it myself (no. 3 I think), but I don't recall replacing either of the other 2.
  13. Last week I got a phone call from my neighbour who owns a '53 plate Fabia 1.2 petrol with around 50k on the clock, to say that on his way to work the car had suddenly started coughing and spluttering and that the engine management light had come on. He turned it round and managed to limp it to DM Keiths in Wakefield and left it with them. They duly plugged it into their solid-gold diagnostic machine (for which they charge the princely sum of £100), and promptly diagnosed a faulty coil pack. They phoned my neighbour and told him that it would be £133 all in but that they would have to get a coil pack in as they didn't have one. He agreed the price, and was contacted a few hours later and told that the car was ready, so went down, paid his readies, and went to the car. On starting the engine, it coughed and spluttered, and the engine management light came on !!! He went back into the showroom and asked what they were playing at, only to be told that another coil pack had probably gone down, but that they could replace it for the price of the part only (another £33), but that they again would have to order it in, and it would be the day after before they could get it, as it was now closing time. As we live fairly close to the dealers he limped it home and asked me to take a look (as I have looked after the car for the past 2 years since I sourced it for him from a friend). On removing the engine cover I saw that the no.3 coil pack had been replaced and that the number 1 coil pack had had an "x" scored into the top of it with a screwdriver or suchlike. The printout from Keiths seemed to indicate that it was number 1 that was faulty. Problem solved me thought...they've replaced number 3 instead of number 1, however, when I disconnected number 1, it virtually cut out, so I reconnected number 1, and disconnected number 2, and nothing happened, hence number 2 was the faulty pack. I got a new Bosch one (for £25), fitted it and hey presto problem solved. The engine management light has now gone out and the car is running as sweet as a nut. Suffice to say I am in the good books with the neighbour, but DM Keiths are not !!! He got an automated follow up phone call the day after from Keiths enquiring as to whether he was satisfied with the service he received, when he pressed "2" to indicate that he wasn't, the automated voice promised him that a manager would be in touch within 48 hours to speak to him about this, but when I last spoke to him on Saturday, he was still waiting some 3 days later. He has promised me he will be putting pen to paper. Now whilst I have encountered the odd faulty coil pack before, I have never had 2 go at once, so am somewhat sceptical as to 2 of the 3 coil packs going down at the same time, and even if they did, why didn't Keiths pick up on this with their initial diagnosis ?? Personally I believe they have mixed up the coil packs having removed them from the car, and have then thrown away a good one and put the faulty one back in. Anyone had any similar experiences, either with DM Keiths or the coil packs ???
  14. You don't need a guide....mine went this weekend, and all you need to do is lift off the plastic cap at the bottom of the wiper arm, which then reveals the jet nozzle. Prise this up (if it hasn't already blown off with the pressure) and you may then see some cr*p inside it. Get a pin and poke it down both washer jets to remove said cr*p, and then rinse under a running tap...you may need to repeat this 2 or 3 times to clear it all away !!!
  15. Just got my "new" motor last week, and have fitted these... http://www.ebay.co.u...T-/251106920629 Pic doesn't do them justice, but IMHO they do look really good and are very easy to fit...
  16. Have fitted some DRL's to mine, but have wired them in so that they work alongside the sidelights, and go out when I put the headlights on !!
  17. Don't like Halfrauds...they tend to be way overpriced, so I've looked at the Ring automotive website instead and found these... http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ring-Aurora-Daylight-Running-Lights/dp/B002PIL8RO/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top ...will they fit my lower grille ?? (As said previously not getting the car 'til next Thursday, so I've nothing to measure !!!!)
  18. Plenty of room for the dogs....???????..  ..if I had just bought that, they would be getting dragged behind on a very long lead !!!!! Absolute stunner mate...enjoy !!!
  19. No good for my pre-FL as it's only got the round fog lights !!
  20. Just watched the above installation video, and it looks straight forward, but I didn't know you had to remove the existing front sidelight bulbs......won't this put the bulb failure light on ????
  21. Been searching around and found these... http://www.ebay.co.u...T-/251106920629 Will they fit, are they compatable, and has anyone fitted them and can recommend them ???
  22. Cheers Mannyo....I did wonder if it was legitimate...I will stick with my 2009 CD then !!!
  23. A friend at work gave me an older version of the "Tolerance Data" on CD a couple of years back, and I have found it a very useful tool, but I have just found this as a free download.... <link removed> Has anyone any experience of either the site or the download before I hit the "Download Now" button ???
  24. Cheers mate...but £180 is way too steep for me !!
  25. Cheers again Silver....but checking the links, it would appear that both of the items mentioned are no longer available !!!! This link, does provide some alternatives though...any recommendations on these ??? http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/sis.html?_nkw=DRL%205%20LED%20SMD%20HIGH%20POWER%20E%20MARKED%20SKODA%20ALL%20MODELS&_itemId=250622481471
