  1. Except the awful Bridgestone Turanzas that my previous Octavia came with. Noisy, squirmy ride and uneven wear even after full geometry checks.
  2. It really is unbelievable that people do these kind of bodges. That they would willingly drive the car with an engine fault and hide it rather than actually fixing it!
  3. Dimming or folding mirrors were not standard on the elegance. I think they were on the L&K though.
  4. Welcome. I used to live in Bridlington and then York. But only ever been to Whitby once I think. The superb is a lovely car. Which year and model etc?
  5. It's possible the pressures are higher. When ever I've ever had new tyres fitted they have always massively over inflated them!
  6. I guess having less rubber on the tarmac has significantly reduced the rolling resistance. I've noticed no difference going from Summer to All season tyres but then the size has remained the same.
  7. The adjustments are made automatically. But running a basic settings wouldn't be a bad idea. This forces the gearbox to run a full recalibration of the clutch pressures and biting points etc.
  8. The last cars I changed the exhaust on were a 1994 VW Polo, a 1996 Citroen ZX and a 1996 Skoda Felicia. Since then I've have 2003+ cars and they all still had the original exhaust after many years and miles. Seems they just don't rust like they used to.
  9. Yeah there is a measuring block in VCDS that shows how much wear is on the clutches or rather how much adjustment has been made in order to maintain biting pressure.
  10. Ah ok. Interesting. So it's not like a conventional DMF that's inside the gearbox. As for the clutch issue. Do you have access to VCDS? Would be interesting to read out the clutch adjustment values in there and see if it's due to a worn clutch or not. There can also be an issue where the motor in the mechatronics can burn out. Or where insufficient hydraulic pressure is produced. It's powered by an electric motor that powers up on demand (unlike older automatics that use a mechanically driven hydraulic pump).
  11. I didn't even realise the 7 speed DSG had a dual mass flywheel. Or is it a diesel thing?
  12. Then you're correct. The vRS definitely just uses the LED DRLs as the sidelights. And yes my DRLs and sidelights both work. It's the same over in Germany with regards to DRLs. I think it was actually an EU regulation that all cars from 2012 have to have them.
  13. Is yours a vRS model? My 2012 FL (non-vRS) has separate sidelights at the top of the headlamp units. And separate DRLs at the sides of the fog lights.
  14. What's your driving style like usually? Does it just get driven gently? Given that the MOT for a diesel is just a smoke test then it suggests a problem somewhere. My previous 1.9 TDI Octavia (PD105) used to pass well under the limit.
  15. Something I've just thought of though. Do you have the under bonnet insulation? Mine didn't come with it but I have added it myself.
  16. Depends how much heat you're asking for from the heaters. When I go in the car to work it's only 6km. By the time I'm there the oil temp is usually up to between 55c and 65c. Depends how cold it is. The thing is I only have the climate set to 18c. I don't need a load of heat blasting out and would rathe that the engine gets up to temp a bit more. I usually have a jacket on and use the heated seat.
  17. Although I can't think of a use for it... I still want one! Lol None of the linked to suppliers from their site have any in stock for Germany. Costs 97€ for the kit version.
  18. 60k Kms is pretty impressive to be fair! And for the price is also very impressive. You tend to find the cheap tyres significantly compromise on longevity in order to boost grip and performance to perform better in the tests.
  19. I've also just spotted this at the bottom of the page: "Verwendung nur im Rechtsverkehr. Fahren im Linksverkehr (z.B. England) erfordert Rückrüstung auf Halogenlampen." Only for use driving on the right. When driving on the left (in England for example) then they must be changed back to halogen.
  20. Those are the from dates. In the PDF it says "till productions finish". Which is also weird as they first came out late 2012 early 2013. Think it must be an error.
  21. Hi guys. I saw an advert pop up in Facebook from Osram. They now offer a road legal H7 LED retrofit. It is only compatible with certain vehicles though. On the list is the MK3 Octavia. There's nothing in the English Osram Site so it seems they're only legal in Germany. You basically have to check you have the compatible headlamps, fit the bulbs and print out a certificate that you have to carry in the car should it be inspected. Wonder if they will look at extending it to other countries. Here's the link. I'm sure Google will translate it for you: https://www.osram.de/am/night-breaker-led/night_breaker_led_kompatibilitaetsliste.jsp?mkt=/ledcheck/
  22. Yeah I've seen options for the Golf and Scirroco too. But very limited for th le Octavia. Quite a few options for the MK3 1.4 TSI. I've found a couple of options. Around €700 though. But they're TÜV compliant without the need to have the vehicle checked and it put on the paperwork.
  23. I got one from a brand called "Peruzzo Siena" from eBay. Italian made and super sturdy. Got the 3 bike version which has comfortably carried 3 adult bikes and a dog trailer strapped on with no problems. Traveled thousands of KMs with it on the previous car and now the Octavia. Thule are in dream land with their prices!
  24. Hi guys. I've searched around but can't find anything related to the 1.4 TSI. Has anyone fitted some sort of performance exhaust to a 1.4 TSI (specifically an estate?). Not too loud and would still need to have silencers in place etc as it would need to pass a German TÜV (also such modifications have to be recorded on the log book). With the standard exhaust I get some very very feint pops and growls (DSG farts I suppose that are suppressed by the exhaust). Would just like to hear these a bit more but without waking up the neighbours and having any loud motorway drone. Any ideas?
  25. It's just a dodgy LED. The car indicates gearbox issues via the dashboard.
