98 octane in Citigo
They can run on 91 ron anyway as standard. Although 95 minimum is recommended. A slight performance drop may occur on 91. They can't run on anything less than 91. They probably can but Skoda says engine damage may occur.

98 octane in Citigo
Yeah I've seen a few tests done between standard and premium fuels. There is a small difference to power and MPG but the cost far outweighs the benefits. It should run perfectly fine on any fuel and shouldn't need 98+ to run smoothly. It suggests a problem if you're getting pinking. Pinking or knock is basically fuel detonating when it shouldn't. It could be as simple as faulty spark plugs not igniting all the fuel at once. And the higher octane fuel detonates quicker and hides the problem perhaps. Turbo engines don't seem to fussy since they overcome knock by running a bit richer.

Skoda Octavia 2012 L&K
Was the car sold as having full service history?

Skoda Octavia 2012 L&K
And the 6 speed DSG needs a service (oil and filter) every 4 years or 40,000 miles which ever comes sooner.

For the Bluetooth you need a wiring harness, microphone (this fits into the interior light) and the Bluetooth module. The module plugs into the back of the stereo. The stock location is under the driver's seat but there is room behind the glovebox to mount it which makes cable routing a little easier. It then needs activating via VCDS.

1.4 tsi Engine squeal
Think I'll first go back to the garage we bought it from as we have warranty. I can tell them what I've found out and see if they want to just try changing the coolant first.

98 octane in Citigo
Have you also tried the 95 E10? Although the overall energy content is very slightly lower, the octane level is supposedly slightly higher.

Thinking of changing from Diesel to Petrol
Hehe. Yes we experienced the same. Our last petrol car was a Skoda Felicia 1.3 SPi (hardly a smooth or quiet engine being an old pushrod engine) and since then only had diesels. So we've never had such a smooth and quiet engine. It too felt like the engine had cut out! I'm kicking myself for not switching to petrol sooner. It's a joy to drive, quiet, smooth, plenty of power without having to thrash it (max torque on the 1.4 TSI comes from 1750rpm) and the economy is better than expected.

DSG 7 speed gearbox oil change
They are put in the boot. So lift up the carpet and to the back left of the spare wheel there is a sticker with a load codes on (all the car option codes and details etc). If work has been carried out under a recall or service campaign they put another sticker next to that with the codes of the work carried out.

Facelift DRL to white - help
Yup. Here you go. No idea if they offer international shipping etc. Was free delivery for me. https://www.ebay.de/itm/264094944273

DSG 7 speed gearbox oil change
Yeah I've also heard of a problem where the mechatronics leaks into the gearbox. And obviously this wasn't one of the recognised problems and so not covered under the "recall". Also heard of the gear actuators sticking but this doesn't seem very common either.

1.4 tsi Engine squeal
I've seen that G13 was released in 2012. So it's possible not all cars after 2012 were immediately filled with G13. Mine is a late 2012 built 2013 MY car. So quite possible it had G12 in still. I'll have a go at changing it since it won't hurt and it's probably got the original coolant still in (111000km).

Oiling tyre sidwalls
Horrible stuff. I've always just given the tyres a good wash and scrub while cleaning the wheels and that keeps them looking good.

Facelift DRL to white - help
Yes they appear to be E-marked so are road legal in Germany at least. The only ones I can find are a pack of 10 on eBay but it's always good to have spares I suppose! Lol. They only cost 25,99€ which is good!

DSG 7 speed gearbox oil change
The gearbox isn't a conventional automatic. It's actually an automated manual and uses conventional gear oil. Having said that, there was a batch of 7 speed DSGs that were filled with incorrect oil. They have a separate oil system for the mechatronics and the gearbox. The mechatronics should have mineral oil in but they filled them originally with synthetic which caused a short circuit in the electrics. It's first worth checking with a Skoda garage if your car is included in this as the work should be carried out free of charge.

1.4 tsi Engine squeal
Hi guys. I've experienced this issue today. I've done some searching around. Found on a German forum mention of a TPI on a French site about this issue. It seems it's related to the coolant used. The TPI mentions G12++ being used as being the cause. The cleaning solution linked above should then be used to clean out the system, drain it, and refill with G(A)13 coolant.

Why did they defign the a/c to only go down to 18 degrees?
Turning it all the way to blue basically just provides maximum cooling and just blasts out the coldest air possible. So it should get the temperature down lower than 18c. Pressing the re-circulate button also boosts cooling capacity since it then re-cools the already cooled air rather than having to constantly cool the warm air from outside the car.

Skoda Octavia mk2 facelift halogen to xenon headlight conversion guide
Come autumn I'll take it to be checked to be sure. In Germany there is a scheme (paid for my the government) where garages provide a free light check of all external lights including beam pattern. They will also make the adjustment for a nominal fee if needed (also subsidised by the government). You then also get a sticker to put in your windscreen to say the car passed it's light test for that year 😁👍

Skoda Octavia mk2 facelift halogen to xenon headlight conversion guide
Well either the previous owner 9f mine had fiddled with them or ist LHD related or something. I was on level ground, turned on the lights, started the engine and let them do their startup dance, marked their resting position on the wall, changed the coding to AFS2, initiated basic settings, they wiggled around again but this time returned to a position much higher (about 2-3cm above the previous line and I was only about 1.5m from the wall so 2-3cm would have made a big difference to the overall beam), so I adjusted them down again with the screws, saved the position and that's where they stayed. I'm certain had I not adjusted them that they would have stayed in the higher position.

No more commute = no more car?
Yeah I've recently acquired a Skoda again, so I'm back! I'm now permanently in Germany. Have been here since May 2018 now. We still have our house in York that's rented out. But I haven't been back to the UK since September 2018! Hoping for a visit this year now the travel restrictions appear to have been lifted! And yes I remember. I think activated the auto wipers for you too?

extinction of performance diesels
I notice here (Germany) that the 2.0 TDI tax is 284€ and the 2.0 TSI is 168€. Is it the same in the UK? If it's cleaner then why the higher tax. Also I'm using 95 E10 in mine. Noticed zero decrease in fuel economy or performance, it's cheaper and aims to reduce co2 emissions.

Yes you're supposed to adjust them. I also noticed when I did the basic settings that they moved up higher. I parked by a wall, applied tape to the wall to mark the height beforehand, initiated the basic settings, adjusted the lights back down to the height before and then saved the settings.

extinction of performance diesels
It can come down to the types and journeys and driving style. I'm getting way better economy in the Octavia Vs the Saab. Even though on paper the Saab should have been better being a diesel. But then the Saab spent longer driving with a "cold" engine, didn't like short journeys and always wanted to be driven spiritedly (felt pants and rough driving slowly). The Octavia warms super quick and feels lovely when driving steady so encourages a sedate driving style. For comparison I'm doing an average of 6.8l/100km (just under 42mpg) and the Saab was doing 8.9l/100km (just under 32mpg)! The Saab also NEVER went under 7l/100km whereas the Octavia regularly shows down as low as 5.3/5.4l/100km (53mpg). So it's possible that people are doing short journeys with their diesels and driving them spiritedly (the torque is addictive). Most people will just blindly buy a diesel because "they're better on fuel" with zero consideration for their journey types of driving styles.

No more commute = no more car?
Oh dear. Guess it's one of those things life throws at us that we just have to deal with. It certainly sounds like a petrol will be on the cards next time? Surely the annual mileage won't warrant a diesel?
