  1. I'm sorry I have zero knowledge of what OBDeleven can and can't do as I use VCDS.
  2. The best solution overall is the towbar. I've used a roof mount before on my previous Octavia. Although it was very stable, cost effective and easy getting them on and off etc, the fuel economy really suffered and the extra height caused problems sometimes. Having them on a towbar is the best. The effect on fuel economy is minimal. It's also come in handy over the years having a towbar when we've needed to tow a trailer.
  3. I think the main drive for this is the security aspect. So even if the keys are within range of the car in the house or within range of one of those signal boosters that criminals use it won't be transmitting so the car can't be stolen.
  4. Chucked in some Mannol injector cleaner the other day. Also sprayed in a can of Mannol inlet valve cleaner. It stank while spraying it and some puffs of smoke came out. Running like a dream 😁👍 Turned the exhaust black! IMG_20200707_180909 by Philip Embleton, auf Flickr
  5. Yeah the code is obviously hard coded into the stereo. And this code is then stored in the car (in the instrument cluster to be exact). So even if it goes into safe mode it will re-sync with the car and work again.
  6. It's probably easier to code it show that it shows up in Maxidot and you can just change it from there. I'm not sure how to do that I'm afraid. But most likely under instruments.
  7. It's to basically run all the auxiliary 12v systems. And to operate the door looks and remote locking etc. Otherwise the DC to DC converter would need to continually run to provide power to these systems which would consume power in itself. Even Tesla's have a 12v battery!
  8. I just find it odd you don't have travel mode in Maxidot. That's the whole point so that it can be quickly enabled and disabled as needed.
  9. Well there's no fault with the motors or modules then. It's definitely the coding that's wrong. Or travel mode is activated.
  10. It seems it's fairly common. It looks similar to the Stream stereo I had in my first Octavia. That would make random loud popping sounds and sometimes completely freeze up. I ended up replacing it with a Columbus.
  11. You still haven't said if the lights do the start up "dance" or not. If they do then there is nothing wrong with the headlights or motors. You mentioning travel mode makes me strongly suspect the lights are in travel mode which adapts the lights for traffic on the other side and disables all AFS functions apart from cornering lights. If you have Maxidot it should be an option under the settings. This is not the same as coding the car for LHD / RHD. That's the hard coding of the car that tells it which headlights are fitted etc. This needs to match the cars origin (so if the car is LHD it needs to be coded for LHD).
  12. Yes! It's easier to put more on if needed than it is to take it off if it's then too thick!
  13. I wonder if the AFL function has been disabled or was never enabled. My car car from the factory with AFS II But it was never enabled. I had to enable to full light assist (city mode etc). If you have access to VCDS you may need to check how the lighting controller is coded. Also when you start the car with the lights on do they do the proper startup procedure (down, out, in and back up again)?
  14. The trick is to apply as thing of a coat as you can get away with. As above, using a toothpick can be useful. I've also repaired a larger area (approx 2cm by 1cm) with the touch up set before. The only difference there was I wet sanded the area to smooth it out afterwards. Then had to polish it back up.
  15. Just buy the cheapest charcoal one. And be sure to get the proper air con bomb that you leave spraying in the back of the car. Used one on my previous Octavia when the A/C started smelling and it was still lovely and fresh 30k miles later! Don't bother with the ones that you spray into the vents as they do nothing!
  16. It might be helpful to know what the error is/was.
  17. I think there's another version that doesn't have the stem sticking out. Not sure which engine that's used in. But for my BXE is was the type with the neck/stem on it.
  18. There are usually several different manufacturers of the filters. It should look like this: https://www.eurocarparts.com/p/crosland-oil-filter-501440288
  19. Yes they are the screws that you use to adjust the lights. But it needs resetting in the light controller to re-learn the new adjustment as the base position.
  20. You need diagnostics unfortunately. You initiate the basic settings on the lights which resets the position, you then manually adjust the lights, tell the car it's done and it saves the new position as the starting point.
  21. There are. You're not allowed to just wash it on the street or your drive. As chemicals get into the ground water and the normal storm drains (that often lead into streams and rivers). I took it to a place round the corner. They are a hand car wash but have jet washers you stick coins in. Took my bucket, wash mitt and some warm water in a canister. It was easier than faffing with the hose and jet washer at home anyway.
  22. Actually. It's the other way round sorry. 2wd is 50l and the 4wd is 55l. Think because it has a split tank so obviously gains some capacity somehow. Or they make it slightly bigger to account for the slightly raised fuel consumption so it still achieves the same range.
  23. Normal Octavia is 55l but the 4x4 is only 50 as it has a different fuel tank due to the drive shaft to the rear.
  24. Our neighbour has one. Very jealous! The other day they had the A/C running to pre-cool the interior while they were still inside 😁😁😁
  25. I'm not sure where the ECU reads battery voltage from (maybe the alternator output). But have you actually checked the battery voltage and had the battery tested? I had a problem on my 1.9 PD105 that doesn't even have a DPF where it was idling at 1000rpm all the time. Turned out the battery was duff. New battery on and it was instantly cured.
