  1. My garage says the old tentioner is on a ratchet mech and cannot go back in .as for the new type it works on oil pressure .he could press it in manually .not like the old one it was solid. The car is back in now having the sump removed and pick up pipe cleaned out . I'm confident it's just that .....new tensioner is oil pressure fed
  2. Checked oil filter and the valve o rings underneath this .all ok . I'm totally fed up now already spent £400 getting the revised tentioner fitted .it had a new lower cover aswell .so if I have the chain and guides done now it will need another cover plus cost of the chain and labour . I'm seriously thinking about just getting shut of it now . As I'm not prepared to spend any more on it . Just seems strange how it only does it on cold start for 2 seconds or so ....fine all day after that.
  3. Mines had the new updated tentioner fitted and new timing cover last week .also a oil and filter change but now it rattles on cold start .if I turn it straight off and on again it doesn't do this . It never made this noise before with the new tensioner. Just fed up now. Vw specialist says they all make that noise .but it's bugging me it didn't do it before
  4. Unless he's fitted the updated tentioner and the chain has stretched .no idea
  5. Don't know what you mean ...it only does it the once at 1st cold start .after that fine . The mechanic that did it says they all do it and it's the oil that runs back from the upside down filter ? I'm 100% sure it didn't make this noise before with the old chain tentioner on
  6. just had a new updated tentioner fitted with new cover and oil , all in for £400 but now ive got a rattle for about 2 seconds on cold start up , im sure it didnt do this before with the old tentioner fitted , any ideas , after starting it and turning it off the starting again it doesnt do it , only the very 1st cold start
  7. Sounds good to me .do you know if there pre gapped as I've heard of people using plugs and there fuel consumption going up
  8. Hi I'm wanting the correct spark plugs for my wife's car without paying the rip off £14.99 plus vat each from TPS . I've seen some what I think are correct on fleebay NGK BKR7EIX type at £28 .anyone got any links to give me . YF13HNN
  9. Old post but my car is a 2009 vrs estate and looks just like this picture above .are they still doing this under warrenty or do they fob you off like vw did with my b6 passat
  10. It will definitely need a cover as they bend trying to get them off .think there £65 trade from tps .
  11. It may need a new chain and guides if it's stretched the chain . This is what the garage said to me .but hopefully mine will just need the new revised tentioner and the tin engine cover that always bends on taking it off. Mines costing a quote of £400 for genuine TPS parts and labour .but more if it needs a chain . I'll be more happy when this job is done mate .what milage is your car on ..mines at 91k
  12. Mines booked in now .genuine parts vw specialist £410 if it needs a chain it will be a lot more ...the old tentioner stretches the chain .mines on 90k so fingers crossed .
  13. im pricing it up still new tentioner and a new cover , yes great powerful car feels solid aswell
  14. heres a pic or 2 of mine through the hole , it doent really look that extended and with 90k on the car should i take the plunge or just keep running it and see , i got the car cheap at 3k aswell beautiful vrs estate 200 horses aswell , just his daft issue when it should have been on a recall

  16. just changed the oil on my vrs tsi octavia and took the bung out to check the tc tentioner , found it to be the old type ,,,,dam!!! what sort of price am i looking at for the parts to do this job for the revised type , my vw mechanic wants £200 labour whatever i may need a new side cover will i as ive heard it bends , has anyone done one without changing this cover , might change the chain aswell if its cheap but not holding my breath
  17. hi ive snapped my high pressure pipe on the switch thread so it looks like ill need the thinner pipe with the switch down at the condensor over the inner drivers wing to the bulk head , has anyone ever swapped one of these , looks a right task or has anyone crimped and bits on like ive heard of before , dont know what to do for the best
  18. Thanks that will be easier .hopefully my bulb warning won't pop up
  19. Might be easier just to buy a new plug with a bypass relay as I only need it for a light board .not split charging or towing a van etc . That would be the easiest and cheapest for me I think .
  20. Might be easier to use a bypass relay and not bother with this module .just sell it on . I only need the lights working for my bike rack .don't need for a caravan split charging or anything ...would a bypass be a llot easier
