  1. ******s, I hate stuff like that, not just because they've driven off, but also because their driving is so bad that they caused it in the first place !!
  2. Out of curiosity and against my better judgement I've been out to the car. With the car locked, I used the fob to open the boot. All of the interior lights illuminated and stayed on for 10 minutes - I timed them. Surely in most circumstances this is long enough, but if not, then close the boot and reopen it and you'll get another 10 mins, or leave a door ajar as Mr Trilby does.
  3. Not sure what's going on here ? I had occasion to take the car out today - first time in ages - to take wife to a shop. When she was on her way back from the shop, she signalled me to open the boot which I did using the little switch on the lower part of my door. When the boot opened, all the interior lights came on and were still on when she'd finished in the boot and got back into the car. I left the boot open for a while and all lights continued to stay on, but I wondered if her opening her door had reactivated the light system, so we sat there for over a minute more with the boot open and the lights still stayed on. I couldn't wait any longer as my wife needed to get to a loo, so I shut the boot and the lights went out (as expected). I'd like to experiment more, but as I'm barely using the car the battery isn't charged as much as it could be and I don't want to flatten the battery or put it on charge unless I have to.
  4. That's interesting. I have a 5 seater, so I didn't give 7 seaters a thought, but I would have assumed that each variant was the same, but maybe that's too simplistic. If I activate the key fob to unlock the car as I approach, the front interior lights and the lights above the second row will illuminate if I have the switches set in the correct positions, does yours do that also ? If so, it goes back to my first post - just unlock the car and the interior lights should illuminate. How many seats does the OP have ? If his interior lights do not illuminate when unlocking the car, I certainly don't have an answer to his original question.
  5. I think you're making this more complicated than it is. In both my 2018 model and the MY21 models, the interior lights come on when the boot is opened, so either you have the interior light switches in the wrong positions to facilitate this function or you have a fault.   7. Assuming you have the switches in the correct positions for all of the cabin lights, then when you press the door open button on your key fob all the cabin lights will come on.
  8. It's been well documented since the introduction of this engine variant across the VW group that there have been problems with kangarooing from standstill. I don't have this engine so I haven't followed the story closely, but from what I've read, it doesn't affect every car and it would appear to affect the manual versions far more than the autos with DSG. It would seem to be a software problem and although VW have tried to fix it, it seems that they haven't yet been successful. If you decide to go for the 2.0TSI, I think you'll find they're not currently available, according to other folks on this forum.

  10. Thankyou, this is partly why I asked my question - to see if there's any goodwill forthcoming after the guarantee has expired and it always seems more likely if you've stuck with the dealer for servicing etc.
  11. Whilst I'd generally agree with you about the way dealers treat their customers nowadays, in my 56 years of buying my own cars, I've had some better experiences than you describe. Maybe I'm just more affable to deal with than you.
  12. Was the extended guarantee purchased when the car was new or when it was 3 years old ??
  13. I didn't ask if the warranty was any good. Asking how people were treated meant, I wondered whether, after the dealer had looked after your car for 3 years and now realise that you won't be part exing it for another if they don't treat you as well as they once did (assuming they did). Perhaps a dopey question, because much will depend on your dealer. This is the third Skoda I've bought from the same dealer and overall their service to be has been good. Since I bought this car, I notice a change of front of house personnel and the friendliness has gone down a few notches.

  15. Thanks for all the info guys, especially in the links provided. I'd hadn't considered looking past the Skoda warranty at other warranties available, mainly because I'd never heard anything good about them. I read a comment by Honest John several years ago, where he opined that modern cars are built with an average 7 year life in mind. I tend to believe that because car companies need to keep churning out cars. Having said that, my wife has an 11 year old Suzuki Swift ( which admittedly has had an easy life and is low mileage due to her early retirement) which is still going strong (kiss of death !!) and has never needed anything other than servicing and a new battery just last year. The advice given about not taking out a warranty and saving the premiums was something we did last year with our dog insurance. Because he's knocking on now, the premiums were ridiculous and in the 11 years we'd insured him, any expenditure for his health was always below the excess payment. We wish now we'd never insured him, but that's easy to say in hindsight.
  16. Thankyou, I already knew about these, but for those who've taken out and used the extended warranty, was it worth it ? e.g. did it cover your problem and how were you treated by the dealer ? I wonder if we become 2nd class citizens once the initial guarantee has expired.
  17. Thinking ahead here to the summer when my 3 year guarantee runs out. I've rarely kept a new or newish car until it needs an MOT, or not far beyond that if I have. Do I stick with the dealer for the 1st MOT and third service, or find a good independent that will treat the car nicely and use genuine parts. Also, do I take out an extended warranty with Skoda ? I know they don't cover as much as the original, plus they won't give me a price until nearer the time. Has anyone done this and then had to use the guarantee, and if so, how were you treated ? What do you think guys, go independent or stick with Skoda main dealer ???
  18. Yes I get the mobility angle, my choice was between the latest Superb and the Kodiaq. I sat in them back to back and it was the extra height of the Kodiaq that swung it for me, which miffed me slightly as I liked the style of the Superb estate more than the Kodiaq. The Kodiaq is a good car though and I have no regrets about choosing it.
  19. Whilst I can't answer your specific question, I thought I'd post this for info purposes because I see you currently have a Superb. I bought my Kodiaq to replace a 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe, which in turn replaced a Skoda Superb 170 bhp diesel estate. For personal reasons I sold my van just after buying the Kodiaq, so I never did tow my van with it. However, my van was a similar mtplm as yours and I towed it with both the Superb and the Hyundai and I found the Superb a much more stable combination (on motorways) than the Hyundai. My point is, an SUV isn't necessarily a better tow car than what you already have and I assume it's to do with airflow over the higher vehicle. Because the Kodiaq is a similar vehicle (SUV) to the Hyundai, then you might find the combination less stable than your Superb. Having said that, if the aerodynamics of the Kodiaq are different to the Hyundai, then stability might not be an issue. Just thought I'd make you aware.
  20. Yes a dealer will be expensive, an independent will be cheaper. If you buy the one you've linked to and try to fit it yourself, it's not an easy fix if you don't know what you're doing, especially taking the rear hatch panel off without breaking something. Whoever fits it, don't forget the cost of coding it. Over here, even some dealers don't know how to do that.
  21. I'm assuming you're not in the UK as you have an S-Tech. As Linni said, I'd stick with a proper Skoda supplied camera, but my local dealer wanted £520 to fit one. Luckily I managed to find a local independent garage to fit an original Skoda supplied one for £370. If you go that route, make sure the garage is accredited to plug into the VAG computer system as the camera will need coding.
