  1. I haven't tried this in my Kamiq, but in my previous Kodiaq with a Columbus system it was possible to reboot it by keeping your finger on the on/off icon until it bleeps. I had a similar problem to yours when I first had the Kodiaq. The dealer said they checked for loose connections (none found) and rebooted the system. I didn't have a recurrence after that. During the lockdown I caused a warning light to come on which I couldn't extinguish. It was suggested that rebooting the infotainment more than once in succession might work, so I tried it and after three reboots the light went out. Someone on the forum scoffed at this and virtually called me a liar, but it really did work, as did turning the ignition on and off on a previous car 3 times to extinguish a warning light. Not saying this will work for you, it doesn't cure all ills, but it's an easy thing to do, so worth trying before you go to your dealer.
  2. My 2018 Kodiaq has now been replaced with a Kamiq, but when I updated my maps in the Kodiaq I always did it with a memory stick. Yesterday I tried updating my Kamiq using a 32gb memory stick which was empty and formatted, but the Skoda portal stated that there wasn't enough memory on my stick to accommodate the download. I use a 64gb stick instead which was fine. Go Figure !
  3. A couple of snippets I've read made me wonder if that's the case, however I've also read that updates are free for life. Also, why does the Skoda portal and also the VW one, (I'm having the same problem with my wifes Golf) let me input our VIN numbers and download the maps with no mention that it can't actually be done this way. I'm finding it all rather strange. Also, signing up to Skoda connect doesn't give you internet access, so how do updates download ? I shall be speaking to the dealer tomorrow as my Kamiq maps are 2 years old !
  4. Anyone done a map update yet ? I've downloaded the maps from the Skoda portal and transferred them to a flash drive. I then plugged the flash drive into one of the USB C ports in the car. The system knows it's there but it wouldn't let me transfer the maps to the infotainment system. I've managed it successfully in my previous Kodiaq, but I don't know what I'm doing wrong in the Kamiq - any ideas please.
  5. Don't know if this will interest you, but I bought one of these for my dash cam https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07TV2Y6XB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It doesn't foul my knees, no cable showing, can be left live or switched off easily. I think it's better than having cable showing and/or having it plugged into the ciggy hole or the USB C sockets on the centre console.
  6. I tend to disagree somewhat with that statement. I think calling it an SUV is a marketing ploy because realistically it's the same as a hatchback, just a little taller with some roof rails stuck on top to make it look more manly. There's very little difference between my Kamiq and my wifes MK8 Golf inside, but her rear seat backs fold down flatter and more level with the boot floor which makes the load space more practical. There's no reason or excuse for making the Kamiq less practical.
  7. Yep same as mine then. I just been having a muck around with my seats to see if the seat back in that position would be level with the back seats when they're folded down. to give a decent storage space at the same level, but even If I could figure out how to get the headrests out, nothing lines up. Poor show really in this day and age. Is that a dash cam cable hanging over your hand brake ?
  8. Further to this, I just found this; Note it says step by step, so it will depend on when this filtered into different cars in VAG range. The Volkswagen Group is continuing to work assiduously on the environmental compatibility of conventional drive systems. The company has now decided upon wide-scale use of particulate filters for petrol engines, so-called 'gasoline particulate filters (GPF)'. From 2017, all Group direct injection TSI and TFSI engines will be fitted step-by-step with petrol particulate filters. Emissions of fine soot particles will be reduced in this way by up to 90 per cent.
  9. Good for you, I like people who take the time to get it right. I believe that statement is wrong unless the 1.4 and 2.0 litre petrols were treated differently. My 2018 2.0 Tsi did not have a GPF and to my knowledge they crept in during 2019. It will pay to check that though as I read that on this forum and I see that the VAG started fitting them to some cars in 2016.
  10. I asked a similar question when I got my Kodiaq and found the answers rather confusing and conflicting. What I gleaned was, that the oil the car leaves the factory with is not what your dealer will use when he services it. i.e. factory oil is thinner so the car conforms to emissions when it leaves the factory. VW 508 is fine and I also read that VW 509 is okay, but as Surrey John says, 509 is for diesels so that's where some of the conflict arose. When I had my first service, I asked my dealer to supply a litre of oil for top up should it be needed and he gave me Castrol Edge Professional LL IV FE OW-20 for petrol and diesel engines. Assuming you're using a dealer or a proficient garage, they should know what to use, but it's always good to have prior knowledge if you don't trust your garage 100%. My Kodiaq was a 2018 2.0 Tsi.
  11. See my comment above, it doesn't fold flat. If yours does, let us know in case there's something wrong with my mechanism. Whilst it won't bother me very often, most of my cars in the last 30/40 years have been hatchbacks and the Kamiq is the worst of them for folding seat configurations and practicality. I'm slightly dismayed at how much of a step there is between the boot floor and the rear seats when the backs are folded. It certainly seems that the Skoda cost cutting I read about a couple of years ago on this forum is coming to fruition. Not a complaint, just an observation.
  12. For the OP and anyone else who might want to carry longer loads occasionally, once or maybe twice a year, both Lidl & Aldi have roof bars for sale which were £30 a pair when I saw them earlier this year. I have a set in my garage that I've had for 11 years. They are good bars, especially for the money and for £30 it's worth keeping a set in the garage for the odd time you might need some. Just a thought and they will fit a Kamiq.
  13. Don't know if you can spec a forward folding seat or not, mine was a demo so I didn't get to spec it. In cars I've owned previously, I've pushed the front passenger seat all the way forward and then reclined the backrest all the way way down so it's levelish with the rear squab. However, you can't even do that in the Kamiq as it won't fold all the way back down. Best advice if you need to carry long objects regularly, is to invest in a couple of roof bars.
  14. Yes I have, it was in a sealed envelope in the car when I went to view it yesterday. Must check that it's still in the car when I pick it up later.
  15. Further to this, during my chat line conversation to customer services on Weds, the lady I spoke with said she'd chase this up with technical and try to ascertain the reason Skoda say a tow bar can't be fitted without tow bar prep. I was impressed to get a call back yesterday, although not so impressed with the answer. Technical told her that without factory fitted tow bar prep, a car is not homologated for towing. I then told her that my dealer had said they could and would fit a tow bar, which rather took the wind out of her sails, as she didn't know how to answer that. So my stance is for my particular model; should I decide to have a tow bar fitted, I will, but ensuring that the dedicated wiring kit is used so as not to possibly nullify my warranty. I hope this may be helpful to anyone considering having a tow bar fitted. Enough said, I'm off to pick up my Kamiq today.
  16. Okay FWIW, I was in my dealer today, so I went and had a chat with a very nice lady on the service desk, who I'd spoken to yesterday about tow bar fitting. She had little knowledge about what Skoda will or won't allow, so I thought for her future reference, I'd share what I've learned since yesterday, which is; This is reference to the Kamiq 1.5 etsi in standard trim. It is possible to fit a tow bar to this car, the kit inc dedicated wiring is available and the statement of conformity that came with the car states that it can tow up to 1250kgs (there is no sticker on the B pillar or anywhere else that we could find that states otherwise). So I asked if they would fit a tow bar to my car bearing in mind Skoda state it shouldn't be done if the car has no factory pre wiring fitted (mine hasn't). The answer was yes they would, but at a price just short of £1200, so that gives lie to what Skoda state. This does not apply to all models e.g 1.0 petrol and 1.6 diesel and it may not apply to all 1.5 tsi models as it may depend on what, if any extras are fitted. Best check with your dealer if you're thinking of having a tow bar fitted. Apart from the expensive quote I mentioned earlier, I've had two others, one from PF Jones for £637, but only if I drive further north because there's a shortage of fitters down here in the west, and another from a local fitter for £710. both quotes are for a detachable swan neck hitch and wiring dedicated to my car. If having bypass wiring fitted the price would be somewhat cheaper. PF Jones said they could provide me with the kit for £327.27 if I could then find someone to fit it. So on my car it can be done, my dilemma being, is it worth it just to carry two E bikes ??
  17. I get that, but what about the poor sods who buy a used car, or as in my case, a demo ? It could be argued that a person shouldn't buy a car that can't tow, but there's many out there that wouldn't do any research and buy blind with the expectation that any car can tow. Skoda are complicating things !
  18. Aha, I wasn't aware they were available. I've always been averse to putting stickers on paintwork, so I'll continue to use my current number plates and take my chances.
  19. Don't know about Italy, but speed camera locators are illegal in France, so if you have one incorporated in your sat nav it should be disabled in the settings. French gendarmes like to be quite covert with their mobile speed cameras, so best advice is to stick to speed limits. It's also been mentioned since Brexit that having GB imprinted on your number plate is no longer good enough and you should have an old fashioned black and white GB sticker. Very juvenile and I doubt it is enforced, but just making you aware.
  20. Yes, but only if you already have factory fitted to bar preparation !!
  21. I think it will be okay as Top Gear gives specs for my model which state there's a 1250kg towing limit, which is encouraging.
  22. Thanks Kenny, I'll have a look when I get the car (it's race blue by the way ). I'm currently thinking that as I only want it for a bike carrier and the kit is available and I could get a detachable hitch, I'll go ahead anyway, depending on what local quotes are and what, if anything my insurance company has to say.
  23. Just saw you reply as I posted mine. Your link wasn't showing earlier, so thanks for that. Are you referring to your Fabia or your Kamiq in your statement ?
  24. Apologies for chuntering on but: I've just made a phone call to a company called Towbarexpress and asked what they thought about fitting a tow bar to a Kamiq. " Yes we can do that and it will include a detachable hitch and dedicated wiring for the car" they said. They come to you and their price would be £1030, which isn't funny, but at least it tells me that the kit is available and the job is doable. So what the hell are Skoda worried about - are they trying to keep it all in house ?
