MY21 Amundsen Map update procedure
Might be worth getting validation then, I'm in the process of getting mine validated so that if I don't get map updates in the future I can at least rule that reason out.

Was that map updates or just generic updates ? You're obviously registered with Skoda connect, but did you do the full registration verification with your dealer so you get all benefits ?

MY21 Amundsen Map update procedure
Now that raises a question that I haven't yet found the answer to. When you registered with Skoda Connect, did you verify your identity with Skoda via your dealer so you can do dopey things like unlock your car from afar !! I do wonder whether this needs to be done to enjoy all of the Connect benefits, although my dealer principal thinks that just registration should be enough. Just after I'd reregistered ( I'd already been registered with my previous Kodiaq) with Connect last week, my infotainment screen offered me an update. It was a generic one, not a map update. Strange you've had nothing at all for a year, have you tried rebooting your infotainment system ?

MY21 Amundsen Map update procedure
I may get pilloried for this, but it is just a personal opinion. Re forums; they can be a good resource of information and often there are things to be learned that you'll struggle to find out a dealer. Some of what you'll read though isn't always fact, it's often just opinions. Some contributors just copy and paste things they've found on the internet, which again aren't always factual or current. As with review sites e.g. Amazon, with forums you have to learn to sort the wheat from the chaff. You do get trolls on forums, but I find most people are well meaning but you have to work out if the posts you read are actually relevant to any question you've asked. One of the good things about forums, is that there are many members who are willing and good at doing the research that others find difficult or are too lazy to do themselves. As for your actual question about reading the whole Karoq forum, I'd treat it like the owners handbook i.e. skim through it to get a feel for how things work and later, when you need to know something specific, look up that particular thing, at least that's what I tend to do. With regard to map updating, that's always needed doing, but the way that it's done is constantly changing. If you don't update it's not the end of the world, it just means that at some juncture on a journey you might get led up the garden path. As things currently stand, with your new Karoq just register with Skoda Connect when you take delivery and you will automatically receive any updates that are relevant to your car. Map updates are issued twice yearly by Skoda, which is usually June/July and November and if you missed any because you weren't signed up to Skoda Connect, you'll just have to wait until the next one. There is talk of Skoda letting us go back to the old way of manually updating later this year, but until/if that actually happens it remains unconfirmed.

windscreen wipers juddering
Another thing that occurs to me; is your car left unused for longish periods, or to put it another way, do your wipers not get used very often ? Also, does the juddering occur all the time when you're driving in the rain. or is it just for the first minute or two ? If the wipers get little use they will dry out and become brittle and that can cause juddering until they've softened up a bit after a little use in the rain. My wifes previous car used to do this and some makes of wiper will be more prone than others.

windscreen wipers juddering
Assuming these are the originals, how many miles have you done ? if it's a lot, maybe they are just wearing out. Have you bent the arms at all ? I've had success by giving the blades a good rub with with Scotchbrite or the Scotchbrite side of a kitchen sponge. Failing that, just replace them because they're a wear and tear item, so a dealer won't do it unless you're a very valued customer.

MY21 eSIM, Internet and Skoda-connect remote access
Yes, both of your statements are correct, but I wondered if it might be prudent to visit the dealer to get the extra features activated just in case that's needed for map updates. Seeing as how Skoda (VAG) are cocking this up completely, I'm going to get mine activated just in case !! I thought I'd done this when I first got the Connect in 2018, but the facility must have lapsed after the first free year. From a query about map updates on another forum; Oldman - The owners manual of MY21 Kodiaq's, says: Automatic update Infotainment automatically updates when the following conditions are met. The “Infotainment Online” online services are activated. An update of the navigation database for the current vehicle position or route destination is available. This map updating question is certain't doing the rounds at present. I'm glad I kept my old Garmin .

MY21 eSIM, Internet and Skoda-connect remote access
Thanks Chris, I've found and read the thread you refer to and my brain is now mush, but I wish I'd been aware of it before I started my own search for the correct way to update maps. Whilst I hate the way Skoda are doing things regarding maps, I thought I had it sorted in my own head how updates now work, but now I'm not so sure. I reactivated my Skoda Connect from my old Kodiaq and registered myself as the primary user of my infotainment system and understood that if I wait until November (one of the twice yearly updates for maps) then my car would receive map updates automatically, unless of course Skoda let us return to doing it ourselves from the Portal - my preferred method. My question now is; although I'm registered with Skoda Connect, do I have to take myself and the car to my dealer so they can see my license etc to verify who I am before I can receive the updates, or is just being registered enough ???

MY21 Amundsen Map update procedure
Yes, I tried this a few days on both my Kamiq and my wifes Golf MK8. Neither one worked and although as a new Kamiq owner I've been beavering away trying to find out how to update maps (mine still shows 19.11) I wish I'd known about this thread beforehand, it would have saved me going through some of the heartache that you guys have already experienced.

Updating the navigation maps ?
I do know that with the older system of downloading updates from the Skoda Portal, the mapping was updated on the Portal twice a year. The difference being that the info was always on the Portal, so you could access it at any time. The difference now is that, although the maps are still getting updated twice a year, we now can't access it at will, we have to wait until it's sent to us. Now this is a guess, but I assume that if you don't go near your car during the time the updates are being sent, the fact is, it will still have been sent, so I imagine that when you next switch on the car the update will appear on your screen and you'll choose whether to allow the download or not. As I said in my last post, it may be that the map update will take place in the background without you knowing, although I doubt that it will. It's these little worthwhile snippets of information that I've found it hard to come by, so we're just going to have to wait and see. It might be worthwhile seeking out the head technician in your dealership or having an online chat with Skoda. I did read earlier today in a previous thread on these pages, that sometime in the future, you might once again be able to download map updates from the Skoda Portal, but that seems to be speculation currently.

MY21 eSIM, Internet and Skoda-connect remote access
Only just come across this thread after jumping through hoops trying to get map updates for my new Kamiq (and my wifes Golf 8). After trying the old download the maps from the Portal method (as I did in my previous Kodiaq) and getting complete misinformation from websites and dealerships, I finally find out the map downloads are available via the embedded e sim as detailed here. So having made this facility possible, why would Skoda revert to the old download method and where did that info come from ?

Updating the navigation maps ?
I now have this sorted, partly due to the info skoda1982 gave, internet research and several phone calls. For a while now VAG have been fitting e sims embedded into certain cars. The Kamiq has it, as does my wifes Golf Mk8 and many others in the group as well. This means that updates, including maps, will come to your car automatically. Ordinary updates can appear at any time on screen and will ask if you want them to be downloaded. I'm not sure if mapping does the same i.e. asking if you want to download, or if it does it quietly in the background - I'll hopefully find out in November as map updates are only issued twice a year as already mentioned. To receive these updates, you must have registered with Skoda Connect (or VW We Connect in my wifes case). There's many instructions to be found online for downloading maps, but if they're the same as peterhr outlines above, then certainly if you have a Kamiq, those instructions are outdated and won't work. If you're not sure whether your car has an e sim and if your dealer doesn't know, then search online, that's how I found out about the Golf. From experience, don't rely on info from front of house staff at the dealership, ask to speak to the head tech in the workshop as they tend to be/should be better informed.

Updating the navigation maps ?
That's the way I used to do it in my Kodiaq, but unless you know something I don't, it doesn't work as I've already tried it.

Updating the navigation maps ?
I knew that's the case when using the Skoda Portal, but it's somewhat annoying having to wait until November to see if my efforts will be rewarded.

Infotainment system re-booting.
No help to you I guess, but my Kodiaq battery went flat twice last year and it didn't affect anything afterwards. Like you, I used a trickle charger after that. Did the garage check for loose connections ? It wouldn't do any harm to try the infotainment reboot I suggested a few times - what have you got to lose ?

Updating the navigation maps ?
Good result then. Yours is not the only dealer who doesn't know what they're talking about. It very often depends on you getting to speak to the right guy e.g. the anorak who knows all the little things.

Kamiq 1.0SE harsh sounding tweeters
Excellent description, couldn't have put it better myself. Turn off the diatribe and listen to the peace.

Auto-handbrake when engine turns off?
I was gonna say the same as Kenny R. I had the same model and year as him, but I do wonder if it's model spec and build year specific.

Updating the navigation maps ?
Can I ask where you get your info from ? I'm normally quite good at research online, but I've found very little that's useful or easy to understand and my dealer and the online chat fellow certainly didn't know what you stated above about the frequency of updates.

Updating the navigation maps ?
Some good stuff here from skoda1982, thankyou. That's stopped me fretting about why my system isn't updating. Having said that , why is my system so far behind at Nov 2019 ?
-
Updating the navigation maps ?
I set mine to primary user because I am the primary user, it's easy to do and I assume (probably mistakenly) that signing on as the primary user might afford me/us more privileges.

Updating the navigation maps ?
Can't help with that I'm afraid as I haven't registered with the dealer and I certainly don't need to open my car remotely. I'd certainly take much of what you read on the Skoda website with a pinch of salt. They led me to believe that I could update my maps in the same way I did it in my Kodiaq, but it's not possible.
-
Updating the navigation maps ?
Just from the initial registration, no you can't. You have to take your driving licence along to your dealer to have it confirmed that you are who you claim to be. I've stated how to update it, just register with Skoda connect on the app, pair with your car and updates will be automatic as long as your infotainment system is working as it should be.

Updating Map f/ware
Don't understand that, my SanDisk 64gb formatted fine and I was able to load the mapping onto it.

Updating the navigation maps ?
Well skoda1982 is correct, but I have to say that Skoda are simply becoming less clever. I spoke to the salesman who sold me the car today and whilst he had a glimmer of how it works, he didn't know the full story. I therefore had an online chat with Skoda and the guy there was helpful. You have to register with Skoda Connect which is free for the first year and payable thereafter. I was already registered from my previous car, although I'd let it lapse, so I reactivated it on my phone and added the Kamiq to it. I then had to take the phone and both sets of keys out to the car to pair the info in the phone to the car following the instructions from the infotainment system. That was last night and this morning the mapping hadn't updated, which is when I tried the dealer and Skoda chat. Chat line recommended a factory reset and if that didn't work take it to a dealer. I did the reset, during which I lost my phone connection and all the contacts and the Connect pairing, plus myself as primary user which I'd set up last night. It took me a long time to get Connect back and reregister myself as primary user, but I got there in there end, except my phone contacts are still in the ether and as yet, maps aren't updating. I'll leave it for a while now as when I bought the car and paired my phone, it took quite a while for my contacts to migrate, if it doesn't work I'll be taking the car to the dealer. I don't know how the car gets a connection to be able to to perform auto updates - I assume an embedded sim or a satellite connection.
