Updating the navigation maps ?
I hope it does too. Many thanks for this, I'll give it a try shortly. Your experience gives lie to what I was told on the Skoda live chat, which was; the only way to get map updates is over the air.

Updating the navigation maps ?
Can you tell us how you managed to download map updates from the Skoda Portal to your computer ? As I mentioned before, after inputting my VIN the Portal would not allow me to do a download. I thought you had the same problem, so how did you overcome that ?

Kamiq 1.5tsi which gearbox
You can ask what you like where you like, but the actual question you asked was the one above which was about an Octavia. Although the cars you mention may or may not have the same gearbox, they can be configured differently for different models and markets. An Octavia can be up to 300kgs heavier than a Scala, so the same gearbox will have more work to do in the Octavia than it will in the Scala by dint of the extra weight it has to deal with. It follows that if you want to know about a DSG in an Octavia, you would be better served asking the question of people who own Octavias and they generally reside in the Octavia section of the forum. And there's no need to be facetious, I was just try to point you to the place where where you're more likely to get an answer.

Kamiq 1.5tsi which gearbox
So you own a Scala and you're asking a question about an Octavia on a Kamiq forum. Probably better to ask an Octavia question in the Octavia section of the forum.

Kamiq 1.5tsi which gearbox
Excellent description. My last car , a Kodiaq, was my first self owned automatic in over 50 years of car ownership. Any future prospectives purchases would have to be very special for me to even consider reverting to a manual box

Kamiq 1.5tsi which gearbox
I saw that too, so I was wary when I took my test drive. I can understand why someone coming to this car with a DSG might find it lively from a standing start, but unless a driver doesn't have full control over their right foot, then it's easy to learn how to get a smooth getaway. Absolutely, I think the person asking the questions should be given all of the facts and they can then make their own decision about what suits them. In any car, a test drive is essential as even though any given model has the same body, a different drivetrain, gearbox and even seating can alter the driving experience considerably.

Kamiq 1.5tsi which gearbox
I have the same model and I completely disagree with this. I would say that it's a lively car though, but getting slowly or quickly away can be easily mastered. If the OP has any doubts, then a test drive is in order.

Seeing is believing...
Gert lush . Enjoy ! I spent an hour sitting next to a Sportline Enyaq in that colour this morning. It was very tempting to tell the salesman I'd buy it.

Personalised Plates... Cool, or Sad?
Then if you have the spare shillings, why ever not 👍

Personalised Plates... Cool, or Sad?
Bit strange if you haven't got a VRS ! With regard to personalised plates in general, why not - it's your money and it's a bit of individualism in a world of sheep. Beware personalised plates if you change your car regularly and want to keep the plates, as there's a charge each time you do it.

Dashcam fitting
As well as the wired rear view camera, there's actually two plug in modules. One monitors the car interior and the other monitors what's happening behind your car. Obviously a module mounted on the windscreen to monitor the rear view won't be as efficient as the dedicated wired version, but it's so much easier to fit.

Dashcam fitting
The rear facing camera for the interior of the car simply plugs into the side of the dashcam. Whilst I didn't study the rear camera, I'm pretty sure it's powered by a cable that's plugged into the main dashcam and then a lead has to be routed through to the rear of the car. I didn't watch it, but there's a Youtube video of someone doing this.

Dashcam fitting
Yes it is. Arrived yesterday, so I quickly (probably too quickly !) set it up and positioned it in the car using the OBD cable I already had in there to power it. I couldn't get it to pair with my phone yesterday, but I think that's to do with my phone rather than the dash cam. However, I tried again just now and they've paired. Took me a while and a Youtube viewing to figure out how to remove the adhesive sticker from the window mount and replace it with the suction mount. Compared to the 3 previous cams I've bought, I'm impressed so far with this one (I haven't taken and checked any footage with it yet), as it was far more user friendly to set up. The touch screen works well and I like the fact that it's the windscreen mount that's powered rather than the actual camera and the camera attaches to the mount magnetically, so removing it from the mount to bring it indoors is a piece of cake. I'm also impressed that this is the first time that the instructions state that the SD Card in the camera should be formatted every 2 or three weeks, as although I know this should be done, I've never seen it written in any instructions. It was mildly annoying that I had to purchase a new SD card as this unit requires a 3U card and my others were only 1U. I found a Samsung 128Gb card on Amazon for £14 though, which was substantially cheaper than the Nextbase one. Time will tell if this is a reliable unit and keeps the time/date correctly, but on current showing I wish I'd bought a Nextbase unit a long time ago rather than the cheaper Chinese brands I have. The Azdome this has replaced has two lenses in it, one forward facing and one facing into the cabin, which if positioned correctly, would also get some footage of what was happening behind the car. Nextbase do an easy add on lens that will do the same, or a separate rear window lens that plugs into the main unit. If the Nextbase proves reliable, I may purchase the add on interior lens at a later date.

Changing sat nav settings/parameters
Yes. 21.8 is August this year so it does look as though your car has received an update since you took delivery. This is all a big learning curve. I thought that any updates came to your infotainment screen and you then had to okay the update before it was installed - so your experience indicates they're done automatically. This begs the question for my car which I've owned since July, why haven't I had an update ? I shall have to investigate further. I am pretty sure though that your dealer can't update the mapping, it has to come over the air.

Changing sat nav settings/parameters
Half of it, thankyou, but did your car come with that version or did ou receive an over the air update ?

Yes, I couldn't get them to agree that an OBD cable was ok to use, they would only recommend their own cables. I'd be happy to do that if the sockets in the Kamiq were in a more convenient place, but they're not, so I'll carry on with my OBD cable which is already in place. Thanks for the heads up on the firmware 👍.

Disappointed in off road performance
That's somewhat unfair J.R. There are many that are coming to a 4WD vehicle for the first time and would't have a clue how the system works - they just trust that it will when needed. As you rightly say, the salesman whos is selling the car doesn't give the buyer chapter and verse on how all of the systems work, mainly because they don't know. It's obvious that you have far more experience with vehicles than the majority of drivers on the road and you've had a long time to learn the things of which you speak. Nowadays, folks buy a car and expect it to do what it says on the tin and if it doesn't, they get someone else to deal with the greasy bits and the modern electronics. The days are mostly gone when we used to do a lot of work on our vehicles ourselves. I'm guessing we're of a similar age and I've held an HGV licence and driven them, plus motorbikes, cars and many types of electrically driven vehicles, but that doesn't mean that I know (and I don't) how a Haldex system works and whether it's working as it should be.

Dashcam fitting
After a couple of online chats with Nextbase, I've ordered a 322GW with a 10% discount they gave me. They've assured me that the unit will keep the time/date for ages unless the battery expires. The good thing being, the battery is replaceable. Another thing I like is that a rearview camera can be easily added. They don't however recommend that the unit is powered by a lead from the OBD socket, but I'll take my chances with that. Another downside is that I've had to buy a more upmarket SD card, bugt not from them as they're expensive.

Thankyou, I'm checking out the 322GW.

That's bad news, mine is the same make as yours 😒 Does your Nextbase retain the time/date even if it's been switched off for some time ? Mind you, if I buy another dash cam my financial director will be having stern words I expect 😉.

Q on performing own service
Let us know how it goes.

Dashcam fitting
The quick answer is a Azdome GS65H. I bought this to replace another make because it has GPS inbuilt and I thought that having GPS would prevent me from forever losing the time and date. Well it doesn't because it retains the date and time in its memory and doesn't pick it up via GPS, so when it hasn't been used for several hours, the date/time has to be re entered, which on this model is a pain to do. My son tells me his Nextbase does retain the time/date, as does another member here. So I wish now I'd spent the extra for a Nextbase - but even they have problems !!

Q on performing own service
I don't imagine for one second that Skoda would update your service record if they themselves didn't do the service. As for resetting your alarm, in the past I've done a reset for a service warning in my sons 2013 Octavia by searching You tube for a way to do it. It worked, but I don't know if that facilty is available on more recent cars - certainly worth a Google though. Other people will know better than me, but I think a reset is possible using an OBD11 device. If it is, they're cheap enough to buy. Just had search and found this and it looks very similar to how I remember doing it to my sons car. https://www.google.com/search?q=how+to+reset+service+warning+due+in+2018+skoda+kodiaq&oq=how++to+reset+service+warning+due+in+2018+skoda+kodiaq&aqs=chrome..69i57.32650j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#kpvalbx=_-EptYdbeHYHXkgWT1azYBg25

Disappointed in off road performance
That's a poor show considering the possible problems that can occur if the Hldex isn't serviced, or serviced properly.
