  1. I wouldn't know where to start doing something like that. I'll probably treat myself to a new laptop next year with Windows 11 already on board.
  2. I didn't bother with rado logs at all. I never listen to the radio anyway. My maps still haven't updated and I've driven the car for well over an hour so far.
  3. I actually saw it better right at the end of the video, but I get the picture.
  4. Didn't think of that. I'll await your report on whatever you end up buying. 😃
  5. I had a quick look yesterday, but I didn't spot any that looked to better than the Milenco ones. I wonder whether the mirror glass is in a fixed position or whether it's adjustable like our current door mirrors ? That could be a deal breaker if the glass isn't adjustable.
  6. Slightly off topic and maybe irrelevent here as my car is a Kamiq, but my rear parking sensors have applied the brakes whilst slowly reversing, rather violently I might add. I have no auto parking or any such gadgets and was unaware that the car was capable of this. It is mentioned in the handbook though, which I read afterwards 😏
  7. Share it please.
  8. Whilst I'm a bit old school and I'm generally not keen on all of the electronic aids that are fitted to many cars nowadays e.g. Lane Assist I find a pain and switch it off every trip, I quite like the Side Assist that lights up the indicator on the inside of the mirror housing. Whilst it's not infallible as it's harder to see in bright conditions, I think it's a good aid to have and use in conjuction with the smallish mirrors we have. On a personal level, I think the blind spot mirror is a good idea, but I think it will look odd and could be a target for ne'er do wells to try and knock off. As an ex caravanner, you'll know what I mean when I say ; When fitted, will it foul the movement of your current mirror glass and will it hit the car when you lock the car and the mirrors fold in ? Covid aside, I'm booked to go to France next year and I'm thinking that one of those could be very helpful, especially on motorways, so I'd be grateful if you'd let us know what you think of it if you buy one.
  9. Well I have the unzipped file loaded on my memory stick which is plugged in the car, but I have no plans to drive anywhere until Thurs - so fingers crossed that it works.
  10. As an ex biker myself, I thought that might be the case. It's a bit like a lifesaver in effect. On top of that though, as an ex HGV driver, I had to rely on mirrors, so the bigger the better.. You will learn to utilise the mirrors you have though, or at the very least it will ensure you take more care than usual.
  11. Good point made here. It seems to be coming up regularly that modern Skoda pads don't wear as well as older versions. Another point to make is that we don't all drive and treat our cars in the same fashion. It's one of the reasons that garages don't easily say " of course we'll replace your clutch, brake pads/discs sir", when you complain that they're wearing out quickly, because they know that some people ride the clutch and brakes, whilst others treat their consumer items on a car with sympathy and respect.
  12. I'm gonna hazard a guess here and assume that Gumdrop looks over his left shoulder when overtaking something to make sure he's clear to pull back in and the sports seats in the Monte Carlo are blocking his view. He therefore has to rely on his mirror to get a view of what he's overtaken/overtaking and this is an instance of where a bigger mirror would be beneficial.
  13. Thanks both, I'll give it go shortly. 👍 Windows 11, now there's something to look foward to. Have you loaded that onto a computer you already had, or have you bought a new computer with it pre-installed ?
  14. Okay, next questions 🤔. The file from the Portal has now unzipped, so instead of being just one big file, it's now lots of separate small ones. Do I highlight all of those and then send them as a block to my memory stick - they surely don't have to be transferred individually ?? Also, I still have the memory stick containing the unzipped file plugged into the C port in my car. What will happen if I just unplug it ? Will it corrupt the MIB if a partial transfer has taken place ?
  15. Aah, I see - I think . Although I haven't yet gotten the mapping in the car to update, I have to say a thankyou to you and Bryfly for persisting with this. Skoda Uk stated categorically that this update could only be done OTA and although there were rumblings about them reinstating the option to do it via the Portal, they couldn't tell me if this would ever take place. So it now looks as though they have reinstated the Portal method, or it was there all along and they'd changed the methodology. The Portal instructions certainly seem to have changed sinc July when I bought the car.
  16. I'm now having a go at unzipping. I don't need to download a programme to do this in Windows 10, I just right click on the file and an option box appears. I click on "Extract All" and it's doing it automatically. I do wonder if unzipping is really necessary, as I didn't unzip the file when I did a map update in my Kodiaq and it all worked fine. The first time I ever did a map update, it only took 30 mins to transfer from memory stick to the car hard drive and that was also full European mapping. Then again, I know little about the inner machinations of a computer, so maybe the boffins have changed a lot in the last 3 years.
  17. Haven't got the suffix, but I do have a little yellow sign with a zip in it - I wondered what that was 🤔. I've never done anything like this, I'm gonna have to experiment. That's interesting, how are the maps stored then ?
  18. I find them adequate, but as someone who drove HGVs years ago, apart from aesthetics I don't think you can have mirrors that are too big. I don't understand your comment about the passenger side view, although I know your seats are different to mine.
  19. Many thanks. I believe at this stage that I did do things correctly, so I'm going to have to wait until I go for a long enough drive and see what happens. The only thing may have gotten wrong was the formatting as I can't remember which type I chose.
  20. I do know from my experience with my Kodiaq that the ignition must be switched on for the transfer to take place, but as I said, I don't know if the engine needs to be running, although Skoda does advise running the engine during the transfer because the battery is easily depleted. Now excuse my thickness, but I don't really what what unzipping a file means. Once the map updates had downloaded from the Portal to my laptop, I found the download and right clicked on it. This opens up a box withe several options, one of which is "Send To". I clicked on that and sent the file to "F" drive, which is my memory stick. This is the same way I did it in my Kodiaq and it worked then. Did I do it wrongly ?
  21. Well I got the maps downloaded and then onto a memory stick. I've had this plugged into the C usb port in the car for 1.5 hours now (with ignition on) and nothing has changed. So either it's not working or the engine has to be running for the transfer to take place.
  22. This has been discussed before e.g. I didn't understand it then and I still don't, so I used to change the Kodiaq clock manually and it's the same in my current Kamiq.
  23. For the benefit of others who might want to try this download, after clicking on the 3 dots the next option to click on is "Open Downloads page", then click on "Keep" and "Keep Anyway"
  24. I currently have a download taking place 👍. I was given the option of two downloads, a 2021 version and a 2022 version. Did you get that as well I've gone for the 2022 version so I hope I've made the correct choice as I fail to understand why they'd offer a 2021 version when there's a more up to date one available.
