So the engine was already open by the time I read your post, however it seems that the engine was way older than 187000km because the wear inside was way higher compare to what would be normal for this age. One piston was missing parts if it and the piston rings were locked on 2 out of the 4 cylinders. New pistons with rings, new other components that I don't recall at the moment and the engine is alive again. I did not have enough time testing it, but it seems that the engine has more power, especially in the low RPM and sounds different. I will drive it more tomorrow and make sure it's all good.
  2. So my wife's Octavia has some serious problems. I was driving the car and then something happen and I am seen a big cloud of smoke behind the car and the car lost power. Now sometimes when I need more power from the car, it leaves a cloud of white - blue smoke from the tailpipe. It does not do this if revved while parked. I have checked the oil level right starting the car that day, it was at the maximum level. After 24km, the oil level dropped 5mm or so on the dipstick so it consumed a lot. The car has 187000km on the odometer, is from 2002 and it was consuming about 1l of oil / 1000km at this point. I went to the garage I usually service my cars, they don't know what the actual problem is. I'm a bit lost.
  3. The fan is not working (most likely) because it's not needed. The hot coolant does not reach the radiator because of the broken water pump. At least this was the situation in my case.
  4. I choose not to buy it because I was affraid of the 1.2 TSI engine, even the one with the timing belt instead of the chain. I would probably buy one in the 110 hp version - if I am to take the risk, at least I have more power so I can justify some spending. Or wait maybe a year for a 1.0 TSI to pop at a good price. I still have my Dacia Logan 1.6 16v for the moment so it's no rush.
  5. In my case using a low RPM got it hotter compared to using a high RPM. I was climbing a hill and I was going pretty calm, but it was a long hill. Somewhere in the middle the engine started overheating and I changed down a gear and floored it. The temperature went back down quite quiclky. I think this is because the water pump looses efficiency but at higher RPM is will pump enough so it won't overheat. I had a manual transmission so it was easy to manage the RPM, in a DSG you might want to use the "sport" setting on the gearbox.
  6. I would love to have a 110hp 6 speed manual Fabia Combi but there are none available from a reputable source right now here as used cars. And right now you can't even order a brand new one with a manual and 110hp. Are there major price diferences between 1.2 TSI and 1.0 MPI when it comes to so some repairs? I know there is a turbo, an intercooler and other bits and pieces but I would like to assume that there won't be any major repairs until 10 years / 200 000km mark. It's hard to just jump into it as I did had issues with a 2015 1.4 TDI Fabia 3 Combi, but this one has everything I need and it might be more reliable compared to the diesel. The 1.0 MPI seems cheaper to fix in case of issues and this makes my choice even more difficult.
  7. Another option would be a 1.0 MPI Fabia hatch. The price is lower, the engine is way simpler but less powerful, there is only manual AC and no seat heater.

  9. I will start by saying I am not proud of myself. This would be my 4th Fabia. Sold my last one in February this year and I miss a skoda in my life :) The one I am looking now it's a 2016, 1.2 TSI 90hp, 5 speed manual, Climatronic, Maxidot and so on. My concern is regarding the 1.2 TSI engine. I know there were a lot of problems with TSIs, but I do know there are more than 1 type of 1.2 TSI. Please let me know if this engine would be a good buy. The care has now 96000km. Another, less important question: Was Android Auto / Apple Car Play available on this car? The owner says it has both of them. The car has the large 6.5 inch display. I have never seen Android Auto / Apple car play on this type of car. This car has a couple of features I really like so if the engine is not that bad, I would really like to have it: -full size spare wheel, very useful in Romania -heated seats -a petrol engine -IT'S A COMBI! (Estate) -The car has almost 1 more year of factory warranty, up to 140 000km. Please help! Thank you!
  10. I have sold my 2011 Fabia Combi after 10 months so this is Goodbye! I still have a 2001 Octavia Combi but that has basically no issues and is easy to maintain. I was just not able to enjoy my Fabia as it kept asking for more and more money. Given the fact that I didn't use it as much as I thought initially, the Octavia will be good enough for both me and my wife for the moment. If I'm gonna get another car in the future I will probably get a new one or a 2-3 years old one and most likely won't be a Skoda as the dealer's service department is useless when you have an actual issue, they seem to only like to change oil and filters. if i will buy a new car in the future, it will probably be a Kia Ceed or a Hyundai i20. I do like the new Skoda Fabia, but it only has 3 cylinder engines and if you spec one good, it's expensive. This and the past experiences with Fabia 3 non facelift and the general dealer incompetence will probably make me buy a Kia / Hyundai. So thank you for all the information you shared with me!   11. If I was ever to have an MKIII Fabia again, I would change the water pump with a Hepu metal blade pump.
  12. I checked the fuse, the fuse is ok. It will probably check the wires on Saturday so I have enough time to do that during daytime.
  13. Thank you, Everything else works on the hatch - number plate lights work, wiper works so everything is good except the defogger. I wil check the fuse and maybe start taking plastics off to have access to the circuitry.
  14. So we have an Octavia Estate from 2001, 1.6 AVU engine and the rear defogger is not working. It does not have Climatronic. We bought it 2 years ago, it never worked, but now I'm set on fixing it. Can you please tell if I should hear a relay noise when I press the defogger button? There is no sound of any relay, but I know that some cars don't have a relay for this. If it has a relay, it would be useful to know where is it located and which one is it. Thanks! PS: Have not figured out how to add this car to the list yet.
  15. No. Just no If you are considering one, please do a drive test previous to buying one. It's really unrefined and not that inexpensive if you spec it right.
  16. Problem is the main Skoda deler in my city told me my EGR was working perfectly, but it was not. If you would like, I can double check your VIN and send you a list of your car specs. Please PM me your VIN in order to do this and I will get back with a list in the morning.
  17. Offski is right, but I think we are splitting hais at this point. My own car in made in November of 2010 and it's a Facelift. I was talking about the rear defroster button. If your car does not have ESP, that button is missing. Like they say, a picture speaks like a 1000 words. This is from my car:
  18. I had a 2012 Fabia 2 with no ESP. It was mandatory for new models starting that specific year, but the ongoing models were allowed to be sold. Fabia from 2009 is considered a Mark 2 Fabia. From 2011 onward it was Mark 2 Facelift and from 2015 it was the Mark 3 Fabia. All Mark 3 Fabia have ESP. If you have a Fabia with a central touch screen, you can disable the ESP from the menu. In some developing countries, including mine, there was a cheaper, non-touchscreen option available that still had ESP and you would disable that from a button left from the steering wheel (left hand drive car). In Fabia MK2, you disable the ESP by pressing the ESP button and holding it for a second. The button is located near the defrost option for the rear windshield.
  19. Besides the overheating of my previous Fabia, the last car that overheated on me was a 1989 Citroen BX 1.9 diesel with about 400 000km on the clock. I was forced to change the thermostat on site (about 20 euros), added some coolant and I was on my way within hours. This happened about 11 years ago.
  20. Not sure if this was fixed or not as it's been ~3 months since the last post, but I had similar issues on mine, however mine was a 5 speed manual. I was stalling the engine randomly and the car won't be able to start afterwards. I had my car for 2 and a half years and drove it for 43000 km but it would randomly stall on me and the restart engine feature would not work afterwards. Same for the stop / start system - it would stop ok but would not be able to start the engine back. Complained to the dealer a lot and finally had the flywheel changed one month before I got rid of the car. After the flywheel change it was a new engine. I could actually enjoy driving this in the city but what about the 2 years before this? It was a chore driving this car at low speeds because of the half baked tech that Skoda put in my car. I was very close of not buying a Skoda anymore after this problem. I test drove other cars with 3 cylinder diesel engines and this is a Skoda issue, it is not a 3 cylinder diesel engine issue. On Hyundai i20 there is a 1.1 CRDI engine with 3 cylinders and 70 bhp. It never stalled on me, never felt the need to downshift in 1st while going into a roundabout as I did with my 1.4 TDI 90 bhp Skoda Fabia. Even Skoda's own 3 cylinder MPI petrol engine is way better round the city compared to that 1.4 diesel. Drove that a bit in the Citigo and Vw Up.

I don't have a MK3 Fabia Estate 1.4 TDI since April this year, but in 2017, at about 30000km, my car overheated while going uphill but did not overheat too much so I ignored it for the moment, but a week later it overheated in stop an go traffic and I was forced to pull over. After a few hours I got to the dealer and they changed the water pump and all was good for one month when they called me saying that I need to go back so they could replace the coolant. All good, went back, replaced it, no visible change on my part whatsoever. After another month or so they called telling me that they need to change the coolant again. Went againt to the dealership, cooler was changed, had no overheating problems ever since. This was one of the many dissapointments regarding the MK3 Fabia and what ultimately led me back to Fabia 2 Facelift.
  22. I am talking about the one with 2 h7 bulbs. Is is supposed to be better at lighting the road compared with the h4 reflector headlamp right?
  23. My car, a 2011 facelift model, came with H4 reflector headlights. Can they be swapped for H7 projector headlight? They were both available at the same time, the look to be the same size and shape, is the connector the same? Is this a matter of just swapping the headlights or there is more to it? Thanks!   24. Thank you Globalste, In the future I would like to install another socket in the boot, that needs to be a separate circuit, not sure how to go about it. How are the cars that have them OEM fitted wired?
  25. Being this my 3rd Fabia, one would assume this was my first option. No, it was not. I was actually really close to purchasing a 2016 Hyundai i20 1.1 CRDI Comfort 6 speed with 43000km on the clock. I actually even payed for it in cash, but when I went to get it they made me sign a paper which states that I agree I take the car "AS IS" without any kind of warranty and that I accept it might have mechanical problems - this after the car being advertised with 3 years warranty! I told them I like the car and I want it but with the originally advertised 3 years warranty. They didn't like that and I got my money back but no car. The other option was to buy a brand new i20, but the most powerful engine was the 1.25 liter 84BHP and the basic trim would have no cruise control. Problem was I had a maximum budget of 10 000 euro but the 84BHP engine plus the Comfort+ trim + color that was around 10900 euro - without cruise control, heated seats or automatic AC. Because I got burned on my last Fabia, MK3, 1.4 TDI 90, 5 speed manual - problems after problems after more problems - turbo error at 4000km and 2 months, water pump changed at 22000KM and 1 year, flywheel changed at 43000km and 2 years just to name a few, a new Fabia was out of the question. Even more important, that 1.4 TDI engine is a dud IMO because it drives worse than the old 1.6 TDI if you have a manual gearbox. After the issue with the i20 I checked a 2012 Fabia MK2 Facelift Combi with 1.2 TDI 75 Greenline, it was a beautiful car, did not liked the 3 cylinder engine. It had 230 000km on the clock, Climatronic, but the standard green lit intrument cluster. After all this, I checked my current Fabia MK2 Facelift Combi (Estate), with 1.6 TDI 90, climatronic, 178000km, Maxi Dot (this includes the white dashboard), heated seats and washers nozzeles, auxiliary heating, ESP, chilled glovebox, towbar, 15inch wheels, disk breaks on the rear and heavy duty rear axle. I liked it a lot an bought it.
