  1. E marked DRL addons, like the Ring ones you get from Halfords, are perfectly legal to add and won't be an MOT failure. But they have to be E marked so no Chinese cheapos off ebay.
  2. From what I understand, the ECU sets a TD1 flag that says its been modified and even if you return to stock, the flag is still set. Even removable tuning boxes can set the flag because the sensors (as a group) are operating outside of their expected parameters, but anything that changes the software, even if removable, can set the flag and potentially void any warranty. I didn't bother for that reason. Maybe when it's too old to worry about a warranty.... Nick
  3. Your garage sounds crap. They've pressure tested. They should do a sniff test to test for hydrocarbons (testing for head gasket failure) and they could put a dye in the coolant to help them find leaks. All the stuff I'd do at home and I'm not a mechanic! Probably your water pump is failing. Its reasonably common on the diesel aparently. Mine is due to be replaced with the timing belt next month as mine is also a 2015 and the timing belt is due after 5 years, so do the pump at the same time. Make sure you get the timing belt done if it hasn't been and if it has been, ask if the coolant pump was changed to rule that out.
  4. First time I've done this. I didn't even realise I could! Brilliant, thanks!
  5. There was no new micro switch at first. When I and others had the whole gear selector replaced, it was with a new gear selector with the same old-design micro switch. Thats why it comes back for some people. And probably me. I'd be suprised if they are shipping gear selectors with the new micro switch in place as they'll have stock of the old ones.
  6. Anyone know the full details of Campaign 23AX? 2015 1.6 TDI DSG and from 2nd March, it has this campaign against it. It is an emissions-related campaign which is to do with the catalyst (they told me) reducing in effectiveness as the vehicle ages, resulting in increased emissions. So this is a software fix in the engine control module which they promise me, won't effect fuel economy!! Yeah, right! Anyone know anything about it? Thanks Nick
  7. I had a quick look, but I didn't see that this had already been posted. VW, Audi and Skoda to recall thousands of cars for issue with DSG. I don't know if its only Australia as the article mentions Australia, but its in the Express and it would be odd to cover it otherwise... https://www.express.co.uk/life-style/cars/1190969/Volkswagen-Audi-Skoda-recall-news-affected-model-list-news Nick
  8. I'm getting misleading information. On one hand, I'm told the 7 speed DSG is a dry clutch that is sealed for life and requires no maintenance. On the other hand, I'm told I have to change the oil every 40,000 miles. Which is it? thanks
  9. My engine warning light came on today. Luckily, being equipped with various diagnostic tools including OBD-Eleven, I diagnosed "Charge Air Cooler Coolant Pump". Now I have seen this error before when scanning using OBDEleven, but I've always cleared it and thought nothing of it as sometimes you see errors that are insignificant. However, this time, its thrown the engine warning light. So, what is it? I have a warranty, so I'm not so worried about that, just curious what it is and if I need to get it in before the warranty lapses. thanks! Nick
  10. I've done the hard bit tonight. I've fitted the camera in place of the boot switch. Routed the rca cable to the front of the car near the glove box. Now the wiring up bit. Firstly, each end of the rca plug has a little red fly lead. Which looks like it would be +12v. Except, the camera end also has a 12v socket and a supplied fly lead that plugs in to this with +12v and -12v red and black wires. So where do I take the 12v feed from and do I use the 12v socket at the camera end? Secondly, I have the right connectors for the head unit end, but which pins in which socket do they go in? Any help gratefully received as I'm nearly there
