Skoda Octavia mk3 2016 led conversion
That will be an MOT fail, is not road legal and in the event of an accident, you will risk invalidating your insurance. It is illegal to put LED bulbs in a housing designed for halogen.

Android 10 Stereo £162 AliExpress gamble! Results:
Once you have a working Adroid 10 stereo of the Aliexpress variety with working DAB and GPS using both original antennas, will you let us all know? The only reason I haven't jumped is that I used DAB a lot to listen to 5 Live and Sports Extra and couldn't bear to live without TMS in all it's digital clarity. thanks Nick

Silica bag in coolant reservoir
You can get a home test kit to see if combustion gases are entering the coolant. A replacement cap is a cheap test. Have you checked the water pump isn't leaking? A little leak might burn off. You can put a flourescent dye in to check for dried leaks.

Please help with a very frustrating intermittent fault
Sounds like the parking pawl is stuck maybe? ISTR there is an override for it with a yellow lever somewhere you can manually pull, but I might have dreamt that.

Ideas for a ‘stealth’ TDI 2.0?
I thought the pedal box didn't do anything that couldn't be achieved for free with a coding change - ie the linear acceleration mod?

Ideas for a ‘stealth’ TDI 2.0?
I believe that a chip/box that has been removed can still be detected in the event of a warranty claim. The ECU sets a flag when any parameters are operating outside of "normal" values and that can be detected on a dealer scan should the need ever arise. So maybe don't worry about the warranty and just go for the one you want.

Obdeleven
Can you post me the link to that one please? It annoys me that it constantly feels the need to wash my headlights! Rear DRL, needle-sweep, cornering fogs, fogs flash with main beam flash, loads of things to play with, but those are the ones I've done. Then things like coding in the camera when you fit a parking cam.

Silica bag in coolant reservoir
It coats the aluminium internal surfaces, providing enhanced corrosion protection by replacing the silica that is lost by the coolant as it ages. There's no need for the silica bag if you regularly change your coolant (every 5 years for example) rather than leaving it in for life. HTH

Android 10 Stereo £162 AliExpress gamble! Results:
If it's not fit for purpose or not as described, open a dispute with Paypal or your bank (as appropriate). They will likely find in your favour and refund you. Or use the free returns option with Paypal and send it back for a refund - you'll get £15 to cover the postage. It took 2 months, but I won a battle with Amazfit for an item of similar value to these radios and eventually got a refund from my bank. You just need to be able to evidence that it doesn't do what it should - and some of these replies from the seller are evidence enough I'd say.

Mirror led replacement
Be careful with the cheap ones off ebay or Aliexpress. Many of them don't include the mandatory side repeater built in to the corner of the lens and are very dim or non-existent from the side/rear. An MOT failure waiting to happen, depending on the tester. The ones from SuperSkoda are ok tho...

Silica bag in coolant reservoir
Isn't the other cause of a blocked matrix sand left over from the casting process? That might explain the colour of the coolant too....

Silica bag in coolant reservoir
And if you have your car serviced, simply get them to change the coolant when the timing belt and waterpump is done as you lose some anyway! That would match the required coolant change intervals perfectly.

Stop sat nav displaying directions in between speedo and rev counter?
As soon as you have entered the directions and its found a route, press the right hand steering wheel control and it will drop you straight back to the speedo display (assuming that was displayed before you used the satnav) Nick

Silica bag in coolant reservoir
The silica bag adds protection to the internal metal surfaces of the cooling system, something the coolant loses the ability to do with age. Removing the bag, just means you need to replace the coolant at a sensible interval, rather than it being in there for the life of the car.

‘Built-in’ Dashcam options?
Garmin mini dash cam https://amzn.to/3auAIVA It is tiny enough to hide behind the mirror or look like it is intergrated. No screen, but it is app controlled and pretty good quality... Nick

Gloss black B pillars
https://amzn.to/3COQIh5 Great for bringing back shine and also contains a UV blocker. It's used on boats kept in the sun, so should manage a car ok. I swear by it on my boat hull and seats. It also worked great on the black plastic of my jetski. HTH, Nick

Smartlink install broke reversing camera
I've fixed it. Byte 19 in the Multidedia section was set to no camera. I've turned it back on and it works. So it looks like the multimedia section gets reset. Other settings (like cornering fogs and dial sweep) have all been retained. It's a tad annoying and if I didn't have OBDeleven I'd now have a problem and a trip to the garage. I might complain to see if I can get a partial refund Thanks for responding Nick

Smartlink install broke reversing camera
Any ideas what's involved in a Smartlink install? Do they take the multimedia unit out of the glove box or do they factory reset the software or something? I had a working reverse camera when it went in this morning and now I don't. Just wondered where to look for the fault. No errors are displayed. I seem to recall when I had a dodgy wire that it gave me an error message on the head unit. It's as if its not there at all. Any ideas? Nick

Header Tank Silica Bag Fault
I assumed he meant my explanation!

Header Tank Silica Bag Fault
Actually, it's there to leach silica in to the coolant to coat the metal and prevent corrosion, replacing silica that is lost from the coolant as it ages. It doesn't absorb moisture because if you think about it the coolant is typically 50% water!
-
Header Tank Silica Bag Fault
A lesson I learned is let the dealer do it when you have your timing belt and therefore the water pump done. It's an ideal time and happily matches the intervals that you would want to replace the coolant in anyway!

1.6 TD DSG (spirited) mpg question
I'd say it was worth it. It's: 1. Blanking off the rear of the drivers side air intake (forcing the air in to the air filter rather than passing over the engine bay) 2. Opening up the passenger side air intake which by default is blanked off 3. Removing the snow grate from the bottom of the air filter. In Sports mode, you can tell a difference. Acceleration is a little better, you can hear the air being sucked in now. And if you don't take advantage of the slightly better acceleration, you get slightly better mpg. It costs nothing to do, hence the name, so nothing ventured, nothing gained. (Actually, if you do it properly, you have to buy a VW blanking plate for £20. But its worth a punt... Nick

1.6 TD DSG (spirited) mpg question
I think the larger engine would have been a more economical motorway cruiser. That logic works on boats. The 4.3l engine is usually more ecomomical than the 3.0 engine. Anyway, if I cruise at 60, I can get in to the 50's mpg-wise, but no one wants to drive like an old lady do they (apart from, possibly, old ladies). So no, if I cruise like you, I was doing 44/45. I did the "pikey mod" and seem to be doing a little better now, but still no better than 47 Nick

Map update brings routing problems
Anyone else had routing issues with the latest ECE1 2021 map? I "upgraded" at the weekend and now several of my stored destinations give "Error, unable to route to this destination". Two of which are in Plymouth, one is Sutton Harbour Marina in the city centre (Barbican area) and the other a retail park in Plymouth. Several other routes around Devon give the same error, but not all. As a test I deleted one of the routes and manually added it from the crosshairs on the map screen and then it works ok. Anyone else had problems? The roads haven't changed. Nick
