When you visit your local dealer and politely ask about the availability of the service records, I would hope that he'd be grateful for the opportunity to keep you on board when it comes to your next service. You don't have to tell him that you will, most likely, use an indy.
  2. I notice that Bryfly's Karoq is 2021 ........ can Skoda still be sending out Karoqs with absolute rubbish wiper blades? Has anyone ever bought a new Karoq, and the blades weren't awful?
  3. The area to the north and west of Cambridge has been a nightmare test for satnavs for years; I used to travel frequently to the midlands to visit my late father, and the road layout/priorities between Cambridge and Brampton Hut used to change on a weekly basis. Even my Tomtom couldn't keep pace and our best bet turned out to be Googlemaps instructions from my wife's phone. The Skoda satnav in the Karoq was, of course, utterly useless. Last September, the Karoq's sd card was updated by the dealer - but the satnav failed dismally on a trip up the A14 in October - I was still, apparently, driving across open fields. I now understand that the maps are actually revised every November so I hope that the new maps, updated by the dealer last week, will perform rather better. I'd be interested to hear how folk are getting on with recent map updates when driving on that stretch of road as I don't have any plans for going that way in the near future.
  4. That's fair enough and, as far as possible, I'll try to operate like that as well in future. However, for much of the time, my load cover had been out of the car altogether - and still it 'went saggy', so I suspect there was some inherent weakness in the design/manufacture.
  5. After posting this just over a year ago, I did very little mileage in the car (covid etc) and, of that, the load cover was removed for most of the time. Stupidly, I forgot to mention the matter at the car's service last September. A couple of weeks ago, I took another look and, if anything, the cover was even saggier. After making an appointment, the dealer was able to take a look at it this morning while I waited - and replaced the cover foc under warranty - the new cover retracts fully, as it should. While at the dealers, I took the opportunity to have the satnav card updated; I returned this afternoon to collect that - all very helpful, I thought. [Vindis, Bury St Edmunds]

Actually, the duct tape doesn't sound a bad idea; at least, it won't have cost much if it falls off after a couple of years. Istr that the rubber strip that I bought cost about £10, but that was for the top groove, so gravity wasn't an issue. The main reason I bought the rubber strip was to cushion a canoe on the roof-bars rather than sound reduction.

I just had a look at my Brio bars, and I see what you mean about the channel; I have only used mine on a couple of occasions - not long enough to be annoyed by the whistle. Halfords were able to supply me with a rubber insert several years ago for the Vx bars that I'd bought for my Astra - but that was for the top-side of the bars. If you Google 'rubber insert for roof bars', there are a surprising number of options. Good luck!
  8. Thanks for kicking the thread off - a great many of us have been able to discuss the problems with the 1.5tsi and learn from one another on these pages. My Karoq was from the same era as yours; it displayed both the killer hesitancy and the 1st gear kangarooing - the former being sorted by the update, and the latter more or less sorted. Fortunately, most of my driving is on open roads, with little town driving - hence the car's behaviour is, for me, quite tolerable. As you say, 'there is so much to like about the car' - which is fortunate because I didn't do a PCP deal and will probably be living with it into the foreseeable future. Good luck with your next car; please come back onto this thread and let us know what you chose. It isn't easy at the moment with so many changes going on with car requirements; a friend has just 'done the right thing' and bought a Kia e-Niro, but he is experiencing problems on a par with our 1.5 Karoqs. He is now looking at the mechanism for rejecting it.
  9. That comment prompted me to take another look re my Sept '18, 1.5 petrol. Both the fuel flap and manual state 'min 95ron'

Just taken a look at Blackcircles and noticed that Gen 3 are now available on Karoq 18" wheels. https://www.blackcircles.com/catalogue/goodyear/vector-4seasons-gen-3/215/50/R18/W/92/f?tyre=40971941 They appear to be rated at 71dBs. My Karoq won't be ready to be re-shod (from Touranzas) yet but, when the time comes, I will give the Goodyears serious consideration. My wife has Gen-2s all round on her B-max, and they have performed very well in the recent snow. If anyone tries them, I'd be very grateful for a report on here.
  11. Blimey, Shy, are you telling us that you survived 29,000 miles on the original wipers? They cannot have been the dodgy screeching sort that we all changed as quickly as possible before they drove us mad?
  12. That is exactly the same as mine (reported earlier in the thread) - 23 months for the main key ........ and the spare had failed by 27 months ........ so don't forget to check your spare!
  13. I had long-ago concluded that there were differences in performance between these types of battery - but had assumed that it was largely down to brand i.e. you got what you paid for; I had no idea that there were variations within a brand. I looked at a Renata pack and at a Panasonic pack - and could find no other information other that that they were CR2025. I don't understand what is meant by 'pulse capacity' - I thought that it might mean that the battery is only called into action when you e.g. press the fob to open the door ........... but isn't the battery in constant demand as it's always emitting a signal? Just going back to my Karoq, and my post of 28th September (earlier in this thread) ............ My Karoq went in for service and the dealer changed the Panasonic that had been there for 3 weeks for a new unbranded one - he claimed that the 'battery was showing low-voltage'. At that time, the battery in my 'spare' fob was still operating after 2 years. Subsequently, on 23rd December the battery in my main key-fob i.e. the unbranded one supplied by the dealer, failed after 3 months; by that time, the original battery in my spare fob failed as well. So - I changed both defunct batteries for new Panasonics ....... and I'll continue to monitor their progress closely. I will also write to the dealer while the car is under warranty to inform him that their battery had failed after 3 months and that I was giving notice that this could be some sort of failure of the key-fob. My advice to anyone with this type of kessy system is to keep a spare battery and small screwdriver in the glove-box (and in the house) - and do a trial run of getting into the car via the manual-lock on the driver's side door.
  14. "Sorry my mistake. I meant Focus of course." I guessed that's what it might be; I meant to add a smiley
  15. Is this really so surprising when the last Ford Escorts were made in 2002?

The dragging blades ............... have you read the threads about noisy wiper blades and the deep satisfaction to be had by replacing them with something better - e.g. Bosch? Or maybe you've already changed your blades?
  17. I'm not sure whether Skoda take any notice of forums or not ........ but, when I complained about my 1.5tsi Karoq's strong urge to kill me - backed up by about 80 pages of similar reports on these pages ........ they (along with the dealer) advised me not to take any notice of what was written on forums (ha, ha, ha!). It subsequently took a year of e-mails, phone calls, and the intervention of the DVSA before the software for the 1.5tsi engine was finally (more or less) sorted out. Unless the satnav issue is trying to kill you, then I suggest that you do as I did and get yourself a Tomtom .......... life's too short
  18. I find that the mirror-heating facility is good for keeping the door mirrors clear of distracting rain drops/splashes.
  19. In the interests of my sanity and blood pressure, I bought a top-of-the-range Tomtom and an extra mount so that we could swap the device between my Karoq and my wife's car - a B-max with an archaic built-in satnav. The Tomtom downloads new map releases every 3 months or so via wifi; it also leaves the Karoq's infotainment screen free for all the other distractions.
  20. I agree, it can be a bit fiddly trying to find the release strap - especially at night.
  21. I guess my Karoq was approaching 18 months old when I fitted mudflaps; the car had been getting filthy during the winter months and I suppose the phrase that came to mind was 'every little helps'. The mudflaps are pretty substantial things, so 'flaps' is not really the right word when you compare these with the mudflaps of old; they really did flap about, fall off and line the roadside. To me, mudflaps seem to suit the Karoq design, I quite like their appearance. I think they do protect against the muck - a bit - but it's difficult to be quantitative about it. The only way to test effectiveness would be to do a side by side comparison on the same road ......... Any Karoq (pref petrol blue) owners in East Anglia without mudguards fancy doing a comparative test in a lane frequented by sugar beet lorries?
  22. Personally, I'm not sure that it would be worth risking making a bit of a mess. I would class it along with taking the wallpaper with you when you move house
  23. Thanks. My OEM battery was also Panasonic, but it lasted 1yr 11mths. I had formed the impression that the key was constantly sending out a signal, and battery life was dependent, more or less, on the quality of the battery. I guess it isn't unreasonable to suppose that this can be also affected by the number of times the buttons are operated on the battery in addition. My spare, rarely-used key is still OK after a further 3 months (Panasonic). Is yours a motion-sensing key, or the standard type like mine?
  24. When you dig the battery out, can you check what brand it is, please?
  25. Thanks for the heads-up; the cost is the same whether you pay up front or by monthly instalments, so seemed a reasonable deal to me.
