  1. I served at RAF Laarbruch, Germany 1973-76. We also used Vodka for screenwash as it was cheaper than actual screenwash….only problem was the sore neck from trying to lick it off the edge of the screen.😊
  2. Looks like the first connection should be by USB. Having had the issues when wireless I connected via cable. It worked fine. Since then Apple Carplay works fine wirelessly now.
  3. Ive connected my new iphone via bluetooth to my Amundsen Plus system and today was using Google maps via Carplay. It disconnects randomly whether the phone is in my pocket or on the charging cradle. Charging also stops sometimes when the phone is on the charging cradle, with a message “Phone not charging make sure there is nothing else in the charging bay” Not what I was expecting when I went for Amundsen Plus pack? Anyone else had this issue? Am I doing something wrong?
  4. Ah…..so you have had some expensive issues on your last car. Not everyone then. Im pretty sure there are lots of people on every forum who have had expensive issues with every brand especially at higher mileages. Im happy to stick with Skoda for now. I usually change every three or four years and Ive never in 50 yrs reached more than 55000 miles. I did, in the seventies, buy a complete lemon from new but that was one of BMC’s awful heaps. The Karoq Im part exchanging for my sportline has been faultless for nearly four years so I am happy to be getting another.
  5. We believe who we like I suppose and anyone can have an opinion but “crap VAG engineering and production values that leave rueful owners with humengeous repair bills” ? Really?
  6. Interesting, thats not backed up by motoring press. We can always fins someone to tell us what we want to hear.
  7. I can confirm that it isnt true at all as I was stopped very abruptly when driving down a farm track when the car was about to pass over a thick tuft of tall grass and it suddenly refused like a horse at the jumps

    Karoq pictures

Managed to find a Phoenix Orange 1.5tsi Sportline with Winter+ and Amundsen+ packs, one month old and £4000 less than new retail price so whats the point of waiting months? Pick it up next week and say goodbye to my Black 1.5tsi SEL. No more spending ages trying to locate my car in the car park!
  9. I just applied light pressure to the switch surface while driving over bumps and noticed the rattling had gone so I then put a piece of sellotape over that switch and all was good until it was replaced.
  10. My Karoq 1.5 SEL is now almost three years old. No issues at all until a rattling sound appeared in the drivers door area. After weeks of trying to identify the issue I booked it in for examination and was told if it was found not to be a quality issue I would be charged £90. The day after I booked it in I found the issue….it was the rear electric window isolation switch on the drivers door switchbank. I took the car in, explained to the service staff and the switch was replaced under warranty. The day after I then got an annoying sound which seems to be something sliding backwards on acceleration and forwards on braking. May be a foreign object that has found its way into the aircon ventpipe that runs under the front the seats. Ive tried everything including attaching a vacuum cleaner to the floor vents but its still there and its driving me nuts. Not an issue on a long journey (Just got back from a 3500mile road trip to Spain) but a real pain around town.
  11. No problem for me as I use a 27” Mac for photography but her indoors prefers to use a windows PC so we have both.😊
  12. Customer service indeed. Having now been shown how to do this myself through the official site I will be doing so in the next couple of days before a trip to Spain in two weeks time. How the hell does DM Keith justify a price of £260 for an ‘Official SatNav SD card’?
  13. My 2018 Karoq has the Amundsen system and while at the dealership today I asked how the Nav software is updated. The service guy told me it needs the latest SD Card and offered to supply one. When I asked for the price he looked it up on the system……..£260 inc VAT. Will stick with Google maps…..free and always up to date.
  14. How many times has your dealer offered this update for free?

    OD Filter

Okay, this probably a stupid question so please go easy on me, but on the invoice for my 2yr 20,000 mile service (1.5 Tsi dsg) there is mention of an oil filter at £7.51 and then an ‘OD Filter’ at £23.35 ex vat. What is this OD Filter of which they speak please?
  16. There is a resting block yes....on the LEFT of the pedals. Nothing on the right of the accelerator.
  17. Just had my oil change 20,000 mile service done. They used “ Non franchise Longlife 0W-30” 4.3 ltrs at 11.30 per litre ex VAT. (£59.34 inc) Told me that due to Covid if I wanted they could offer a pick up and delivery service (14 miles to dealer), that cost £15 which seemed reasonable.......then they added £12.50 CDW, so £27.50 in total, to which they added VAT so collection/delivery wasnt £15 as quoted but £30. Also they told me the keyfob battery needed replacing.......that came to £9.40 for two CR2032 batteries. They certainly know how to charge!
  18. I find it better just to use google maps or waze. Both right up to date and much better than any standalone satnav.
  19. not the attitude most take when you get charged about £60 for each ‘ding’ after the lease car pre return imspection.
  20. I switch stop/start off every time I get in the car. Cant stand it.
  21. Wow, just had this happen to me leaving town. Driving at about 25mph road ahead clear and a transit van behind me....my wife and daughter were in the car. Pootling along as normal and the brakes jammed on momentarily. How the guy behind didnt hit us I dont know but it was really worrying. No odd lighting condition or obstruction in road or on pavement. Not happy.
  22. yes, Shengen has been around since the mid 1980s. UK has never been a member which is why we have always had to produce a passport to enter and why Shengen members have to provide passports to enter the UK. When we leave the EU things will stay pretty much the same in respect of passport controls.
  23. It was just as easy before the EU....the main issue was having the correct currency but each border had a currency office. Like I said, once you are in the EU crossing borders are not an issue and you seem to forget that to enter mainland Europe from the UK we already have to produce our passport.
