  1. It does use the connection on your phone, it uploads all the backup data somewhere probably to the Skoda account so if you remove and reinstall it all gets reloaded. Ialso think it sends all the data about your car back to VAG, suspect its anonymous but no doubt all that data must tell them something about their engines. I haven't noticed it using massive amount s of data in two weeks it's used 14 mb.
  2. Maybe something on the phone mine is totally accurate, as a walker and user of the ordnance survey app don't think it's ever more than a few feet out. There used to be a setting for accuracy on Android but more it's either on or off.
  3. If I zoom right in then I can see it is a lot of straight lines but enough of them that they follow the curves. It's just connecting the gps points that are recorded so depending how often your phone is recording these points depends how many lines so not many points might mean they're not very curvy.
  4. Just loaded the latest upgrade from the Play Store and all working again. It's been recording all my journeys and it did take a while for them to load I so there was a bit of whirring on the journeys page but all came good.
  5. I locked the car leaving my wife inside while I went shopping once, not only couldn't she escape the alarm kept going off. She was not amused when I returned.
  6. Probably what you think are zeroes are Ohhhs.
  7. After changing my Playstore review from 5* to 1* the Skoda Connect Lite App team asked me to contact local support so I've emailed customer services, if they come up with anything I'll post. I've removed and installed a few times and it still ends up in the settings window and whirs. Curiously, while reinstalling it downloads my backups and I can briefly see it is still working recording all my journeys it's just that I can't get to anything. If they can fix it then everything is still there and up to date. A shame that a perfectly functioning app is updated and stops working but then while the other app My Skoda might be great for new cars for those of driving cars made back end of 2018 the old version was better in that it displayed the service history. When motor manufactures move entirely to electric I hope they get some decent programmers as the programs there are going to be a bit more complex than these.
  8. The original did require a cable connection but the connect lite doesn't, you can buy a genuine vw data plug off eBay from under a fiver (mine came from a Vauxhall dealer with a very franchise) your phone connects via Bluetooth so every time you get in the car it starts recording with no action required unlike My Skoda which has to be started and running to record. Sadly Connect Lite has stopped working since last update, will load on another phone and see if it works then, normally I'd just delete and load again to see if that resolved but having activated all the features loathe to have to earn all the points again which is what I worry will happen.
  9. As an avid user of connect lite disappointed to find it no longer worked after the most recent update on android. Just goes into setting for name etc and whites. Still connects in the car but nothing seems to work. Anyone else having issues?
  10. Agree with that, it's definitely very noisy which along with dragging blades makes for unpleasant drives in the rain.
  11. In the Karoq forum there's a very long thread about the new Skoda App (Skoda Connect app only shows ....) and the consensus is that it's awful and does next to nothing and even then you have to open the app and the trip window for it to record a journey. Quite a few of us have bought a Vw data plug off eBay for a fiver and use Connect Lite which for me is totally automatic and very reliable, records trips, if you add refuelling says how much the trip cost, last place parked. Seeing as it works I expect Skoda to replace it with something that doesn't very soon. I believe it works on most skodas even quite old ones.
  12. I suspect many of the readings are averages so except on longer journeys you don't see a true figure, on an 8 mile journey this morning the temp was 660, coming home a bit later it was 696. On a 100 mile journey it was up to 792. It's a similar story with coolant and oil temperatures. I have found Connect Lite to be flawless and my phone doesn't have any issues connecting to the data plug. I use an app called Hotspot Automatic which when it connects to the cars bluetooth sets up a hotspot which the car connects to to get the traffic. As the Connect Lite is sending back all the information to VAG I wonder if you also need a good connection back to their servers for it to work which if I'm hooked up to them for traffic I'm getting. My phone uses Vodafone and I've found the connection very reliable, I also have a usb dongle with a Three sim in it and that's very hit and miss, O2 is just hopeless and I live just outside the M25 in a suburb. Always fun watching the BT engineers trying to get a signal when they turn up to try and fix their appallingly slow broadband.
  13. Who knows what goes on in the mind of software engineers, I worked with them for 20 years and I never knew. I suspect the My Skoda app is designed to work brilliantly with the new models about to come off the line but alas not with anything even a few months old. I find the Connect Lite app works flawlessly on my Nov 18 build Karoq.
  14. Having amassed enough points on Connect Lite to activate throttle valve position, on all my journeys bar one it reads 0.0/88.2.The one journey shows 11.0/88.2. The figure to the left of the /is in bold. Does anyone know what this means? The setting is degrees not %. Thinking back to olden days of carbs the butterfly valve would move a quarter turn or 90 degrees. I am very light on the throttle but I must open it to get anywhere.
  15. Obtained my data plug from Lookers on eBay too, a Vauxhall parts dealer but Lookers have a Vw outlet and Idont doubt it isn't genuine. The only slight issue I had was the Bluetooth code where I had to enter it twice as it wasn't clear if the O's were zeroes or O's.
  16. I'm currently running My Skoda and Connect Lite on my Karoq built in the July to November 2018 period. I have an Android phone, I use something called Hotspot Automatic that creates a hotspot when my phone connects to the cars bluetooth and the car uses this for the navigation traffic information and the other limited bits like weather and news on the Amundsmen infotainment unit. Using My Skoda, I don't have to connect with a usb, it seems to connect to the car via the wifi hotspot but I do have to start the My Skoda app and go into Logbook if I want a trip recorded. It then sits there telling me not to close the window if I want the trip recorded. As it takes my phone and the car a hundred yards to get the wifi hot spot activated and the car connected to the internet the journeys start recording a short distance from home. Using Connect Lite, this connects using the bluetooth dongle, it's automatic, I don't have to start the Connect Lite app, it connects as soon as the phone connects to bluetooth which is almost instant. On a recent jouney, My Skoda says it was 19 miles, my average rpm was 1668 rpm, my average speed was 9 mph and it took 40 minutes (19 miles in 2/rds of an hour was 28 mph when I went to school). Efficiency was 78%. There's a few bits of info on the map, highest rpm 4122 rpm. Maximum speed 15 mph (totally wrong) Also some other info about left and right lateral acceleration (0.3g), not sure if that's the car telling me or if it's using my phone. Some of the information looks decidedly wrong. Connect Lite agrees 19miles, average speed was 30mph, max speed 55 mph. duration 41 minutes. Fuel cost £2.Exhaust gas temp 673.6 degrees C, oil temperature 41.1 C (I suspect that might be an average didn't check). My efficiency taking everything into account was 93%. I should soon have enough points to add coolant and Intake air temperature, but a while to go before I get to see Throttle Valve position. The map has little red lines which I suspect is when I was accelerating. As Connect Lite is completely automatic and seems to offer more accurate information (it does come from the cars OBD port) of the two it seems the winner and if you're into apps worth a fiver for the bluetooth sender unit Neither allow me to see the Digital Service History though which was a feature of the app My Skoda replaced. Both apps no doubt send loads of information back to VAG but Connect Lite probably a lot more as it's in touch with the cars electronics via the EBD, just like in a plane though I don't suppose there's a technician watching the performance like there is for Rolls Royce aero engines.
  17. If the connect lite app is on your phone it connects automatically using Bluetooth, you don't have to open the app. It's more solid than the my Skoda app.
  18. Finally have My Skoda working, I had to use the add vehicle, entered my Vin, it told me I already had it in the garage but then it started to work. No digital service history. Agree the manual is worse than in the old app ( only really want that to find out what warning lights mean if I'm out), also seems I have to use the USB cable and open the app and keep it open for it to record the journey, though the info is mildly interesting but not worth the faff. For my money buy a VW data plug from eBay for a fiver and load Connect Lite which just works all on its own via bluetooth, I don't have to do a thing. If that had a digital service history I'd be happy. Connect lite shows me mileage, battery, remaining range.
  19. So we now have no access to the on line digital service history or the manual on our phone, back to the old days of a wad of papers then. I somehow don't think that was the intention when they combined the apps, there's a lot of 1 * reviews on the play store including mine which prompted support to answer so will see what they say. I quite like Skoda Connect Lite just a shame you have to indulge in lots of pointless driving to get the points to see interesting information especially as all that info feeds straight into Vag's computers.
  20. That's what I see too, I'd expect to see my service history in there as it knows my VIN. Skoda have just updated the app on my phone which used to show my digital service history plus some other stuff but now that's all disappeared and all I can do is send a route to the car. The new My Skoda App seems to work for some but not others looking at the reviews in the android play store.
  21. you must be doing more miles than me, so far only activated exhaust gas temperature. if it gets from 5 to 24 it must heat up very rapidly or the temperature sender is influenced by temperatures of the engine. I seem to recall lower air temperature meant more power.
  22. When I sold a Fabia to We buy any car the stamped service book was quite a factor in actually almost getting the quoted price. Paper bills seemed to be of no interest. I can print a service history from My Skoda (or can until it dies next week) but it doesn't look convincing, is the history from a dealer any better?
  23. Purchased a VW data plug off eBay for under a fiver from a Vauxhall dealer with a VW franchise. Seems to work fine though seeing as I'm handing over all the data to Skoda seems a bit rich to make me drive around to get enough points to unlock some of the more interesting bits. Would be nice if My Skoda worked with the data plug instead of having to connect USB and wondering if My Skoda will also show the digital service history.
  24. I bought a VW one off eBay as well, it came from Lookers Vauxhall Parts but Lookers have a VW dealership and though it didn't have fancy packaging it did come with some VW literature and I don't doubt it is a genuine part. Works fine, only issue was the Bluetooth code which wasn't clear whether things were a O or a 0. The connect Lite app works well and would be quite good if it showed all the info it can get but it seems I have to go for drives to get points which will eventually unlock other bits of information. If I drive to the dealers I get a 1000 points, quite why I should have to go for a pointless drive to get points to unlock extra features beats me, not very green. Other challenges include going for a drive and not going over 2000 rpm which could be dangerous in some places.
