Connect Lite / Myskoda App Problem

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've just changed cars from Octavia VRs to a Karoq 1.5 DSG petrol Sportline. Very happy in general (even with the bigger wheels  ) although I'm used to the stiffer ride by now.

I've been using the 'MySkoda' app and everything has been fine - updating trips, mpg, park position etc. until yesterday when I plugged a dataplug in to try out the 'Connect Lite' app. This also worked fine and updated with car info, battery volts etc. The following day however, the wife was out in the car and I received no updates in MySkoda, the refresh button didn't pick anything up either. When she came home I removed the dataplug and everything working OK again and I can see the data now while she is out in the car again.

So question is, is there a way to leave the dataplug in and still use the remote connect features? Or was this maybe a co-incidence, I can try again with the dataplug but just wondered if anyone has both working simultaneously?

Thanks

Why do you need a data plug If you have MyŠKODA app working fine? There is nothing extra in Skoda lite app. In fact my Skoda app is superior to the Skoda lite.

I use skoda lite as I don’t have Skoda connect and Skoda remote access features in my package.

Hi,

There seems to be few extras in Lite such as graphing of stats such as coolant temp and rpm. It monitors your trip in more detail and also driving style. I can't see these in the mySkoda app. I just don't understand why the plug would disable the remote function in mySkoda, I'll be giving it another try soon.

The only thing I remember switching on under skoda lite app is the gps recording (under settings) , which was off by default.

Finally managed to get out for another drive with the dataplug in and this time both myskoda and remote connection on Connect lite both worked so it must have just been a problem with that particular time I tried it.

Ah well done!

The advantage of the Connect Lite app is that it is free once you've bought the dataplug, while the My Skoda app required you to subscribe to the Remote Access service after the first year. If you don't need all the functions this provides then the Connect Lite app is a cheaper alternative!

I already have the dataplug from my old Golf, so will probably switch to Connect Lite when my first year's licence for Remote Access expires (I hadn't tried using them both :) )

It's worth running both if you already have a plug. There's a number of extra parameters that are logged if you're interested in that type of thing. I don't have them unlocked yet as I've not done many miles.

Loads left today, can you report back on what this does well or not nand how much the app costs to use it please. Will this work on a MY20 car?

Bought one of these a coupe, if months ago and it works perfectly.  App is free, only thing I find weird is to see info on your own car you have to rack up miles to earn points.

Seriously?  Does Skoda think we are primary school children?

...so

...got my data plug today. Where do I plug the thing in. I have been down on my hands and knees with a torch in the drivers side footwell and still can't see where it goes, albeit bifocals don't help:

On the door side of your steering column. It's facing downwards so you need to get your head down low in the footwell pinkish red socket.

Thanks, there was no way I could get that low with my head at such an angle that I could focus on anything close. However I found a photo online and got it in the end. I was looking too far into the footwell. Didn't realise it was closer to where my knees go than the pedals.

Have also been jumping through hoops trying to register on the App. So far I have input my VIN four times just going around in circles (different attempts on two different devices).

I have been using computers since before they had VDU screens (yes it was like that once) so I am not a total numpty.

Glad the plug didn't cost much, not sure I'll be able to use it anyway if I can't get the App to work.

it's not even heavy enough to use as a paperweight.

Just tried logging in on my MacBook and the system now knows the car details. At the moment my iPhone hasn't got the App password from the Cloud, so I can't yet connect (it's one of those 'strong' Apple passwords).

Once the password is sorted does my phone have to be plugged into the car for the App to collect any data?  I can't see how it gets information otherwise as the car doesn't have its own internet connection unless the phone is plugged into the car.

Thanks again, I'm getting there slowly.

As an avid user of connect lite disappointed to find it no longer worked after the most recent update on android. Just goes into setting for name etc and whites. Still connects in the car but nothing seems to work. Anyone else having issues?

I bought one of the ones from eBay at the link mentioned above. It’s working fine. I had no problem logging in, as my iPhone remembered my password from the other Skoda app.

You can’t really go wrong for £4.75 including delivery. In these Covid lockdown times with cars standing on the driveway for weeks on end, it’s worth it just to be able to easily check the battery voltage.

Hi

Do you need to connect your phone to the car by cable?  If not how does your phone get the data?

The original Skoda Connect I had when I bought the car at the end of 2018 required the phone to be connected to the car by cable.

The original did require a cable connection but the connect lite doesn't, you can buy a genuine vw data plug off eBay from under a fiver (mine came from a Vauxhall dealer with a very franchise) your phone connects via Bluetooth so every time you get in the car it starts recording with no action required unlike My Skoda which has to be started and running to record. Sadly Connect Lite has stopped working since last update, will load on another phone and see if it works then, normally I'd just delete and load again to see if that resolved but having activated all the features loathe to have to earn all the points again which is what I worry will happen.

Thanks. Sounds like I have to get my iPhone to discover the data plug.

At the moment I'm still trying to work out why my iPhone  and iPad can't find the login on my Apple Keychain even though my MacBook has no problem.

I had problems registering/connecting to Lite. Took me way too long to discover a mistake with vin number, I'd been inputting the letter O where a zero was required (or vice versa). Once I'd realised that the set up was simple.

Found this:

I have previously jumped through some of the hoops above including up to keying the number into the Amundsen.

Still getting nowhere so I decided to delete the App from my phone and start again.

This time the 'registration' went smoothly and it asked me for the BT code on the Data Plug (didn't do that before!).

My phone has also remembered the login and password, didn't do that before either.

I can see the battery voltage that I knew must be low because the Start/Stop hasn't cut in for months.

Can't wait to drive the car and see what I get.

Now I've got Connect Lite working I am quite pleased with it.

One problem is that for an individual trip I get the data:   'Start mileage', 'End mileage', 'Distance', 'Average speed' and 'Maximum speed'.

However the journey doesn't show on the map. All I get is the message. "Sorry, we do not have sufficient GPS data to display your trip in map view".

I am doing short journeys.

How do I turn the GPS on?  In the settings on the App the GPS  'Recording of GPS data while driving' box is set, it just doesn't seem to do it.   I haven't set the 'GPS for challenges'.
