  1. I recall that Renault were disqualified from a race last season because they were using an 'automatic brake bias' system.
  2. Renault complained that the Racing point Brake ducts were a copy of the Mercedes brake ducts of the previous years car. Both teams denied this and although the FIA ruled that Racing point had broken the rules they were allowed to continue using the parts. When it comes to cheating look no further than Singapore 2008, where Renault made one of their drivers to crash forcing a safety car to allow their other driver to win the race.
  3. From experience dealers just seem to change parts rather than look to overhaul or dig too deep into the problem.
  4. What fault codes were stored when the engine management light came on? What mileage is the car on? You might be better off asking the opinion of a VAG specialist or a turbo specialist.
  5. It gave Renault an extra point, now they are in 6th place and only 205 points behind Mercedes in the constructors championship.
  6. The difference in mpg between DSG and manual is very small. You can 'manual shift' with the DSG and there are different driving 'modes' in auto. Can't see a situation where I would go back to a manual.
  7. I think Red Bull Racing would fill that gap.
  8. Both Ferrari's out in Q2, 13th & 14th about 1 second behind the lead car.
  9. Yeah, politics eh. F1 without Ferrari would be like Christmas without Santa.
  10. I wonder if Sainz is checking to see if his Ferrari contract has a 'get out' clause.
  11. Ferrari have obviously sorted out the 'crack' in Vettel's brain chassis as BOTH Ferrari's have been outstanding in practice at Spa. FP1 Ferrari's 14th & 15th FP2 15th & 17th FP3 17th & 20th (out of 20) On average they are running 1.5 - 2.0 seconds a lap slower than the lead car. Monza next weekend,I expect Ferrari are relieved that the tifosi won't be in the circuit.
  12. Don't know if this works or not
  13. Traded in my 14 plate Octavia 1.6 tdi DSG in June after 165,000 miles without any major problems. Warranty is 3 years or 60,000 miles whichever comes first. Condition and service history and HPI checks should be made before purchase. Skoda service is electronic, but I don't know how you can view it.
  14. Err..... It’s 500 miles. Add 4 laps and call it the Indy 501. Levi's could sponsor that one. Then we could have the Le Mans 24 1/2 hour.
  15. Alonso managed to finish 21st after starting 26th on the grid. Renault reportedly have said that he won't be able to run the Indy 500 while driving for them in F1.
  16. When you get a tear in a side wall at 3 o'clock in the morning you'll know a spare wheel is the only way to go.
  17. Well, at least he's qualified this year. Still chasing the dream of the 'triple crown' by equalling Graham Hill in winning Monaco, Le Mans and the Indy 500. Dream on Fernando
  18. Mercedes appeared to have the tyres under control this week. Red Bull appeared to be struggling. What a difference a week makes. Vettel stormed to seventh place and only a lap down.
  19. I think the only crack they found in the car is the crack in Vettel's character and perhaps a loose nut on the steering wheel.
  20. Vettel on top form again.
  21. Alonso hits the wall in Indy practice.
  22. I think it will depend on which tyres Pirelli bring along.
  23. Max in 2nd place in the championship. Vettel flying along in 13th place.
  24. A few years back a friend of mine was stuck in our local supermarket car park when his Volvo wouldn't turn over. He had called the AA, but there was a delay, so he called me. I went out and check the battery, 12 v OK, just as I did that the AA guy turned up. He reached down and pulled off the 'exciter wire' (his description) to the starter motor, he then pushed it on and off of the terminal a few times and the motor fired up straight away. As he said, it's a common problem with a corroded terminal.
  25. This weekends hard tyre was last weekends medium tyre. Problem for Max if he gets passed in the first lap and doesn't get pass again as the Mercs stretch away. I can see teams going for 2 stops rather than risking tyre failure.
