  1. Could the smell be from DPF regeneration? If so you might have heard the engine revving after it was switched off. Also I wouldn't expect the smell to hang around.
  2. Thanks, I ordered a set on Monday night and did the job yesterday. Door is now closing fine.
  3. @Cairus Thanks for the help. I will look for similar on UK site, as German Amazon will not deliver to me here.
  4. Rear left door is leaving a small gap when closing and it looks like these screws need tightening. I think I need a security screwdriver of some kind, but I don't seem to have anything like this, and can't find it online. Can anyone tell me what it is and where to get it? Thanks in advance.
  5. I first heard about this on Channel 5 Jeremy Vine a couple of days ago. Shocked that something that will affect most people in the UK in just 2 years time, perhaps seriously, has not been more widely publicized. It seems that Openreach are planning to replace the old copper wire phone network with fiber broadband and are intending to cease all landlines in 2025. It seems that many people who are aware of this have serious concerns about equipment and services that they depend on, as traditional phones, alarms, answerphones etc will not work on the digital network without adaptation. There are concerns about reliability, costs and how people will cope if they are not good with technology.
  6. There is a subtle difference between automatic and semi-automatic which I needed to look up. Seems that semi-automatic includes an option to change gears manually, so I would infer that most cars we call automatics are actually semi. Obviously an error message referring to Position P is not applicable to a manual car.
  7. Yes I only get the message while driving. Seems to be at random, but think it may be when it gets jolted. Doesn't happen very often and there are no ill effects in my case after years of seeing it. The car is long out of warranty and this is easy to live with, so I have never bothered getting it fixed.
  8. Not sure if this could relate to a silica bag in the expansion tank, but you might well have this, as your engine is similar to mine.
  9. Thought I would just mention the MOT point in case anyone had concerns about it having had first hand knowledge. With my previous car it passed the MOT with a faulty 3rd brake light on one occasion, but failed the next time, as the rules had been tightened up.
  10. P.S. Just because the can is date expired doesn't necessarily mean it will no longer work, and having an expired can has not stopped my car from passing the MOT.
  11. My can has also expired. I am thinking that maybe a space saver spare wheel off Ebay is the way to go, as no worries about expiry in future and shouldn't cost much more than a can of gunk from a dealer.. If you have breakdown cover, you should check the terms and conditions to make sure that you have what you need to ensure that your cover remains valid. On my previous car I got a puncture and the tyre was too badly damaged to rescue using cans of gunk, so a spare wheel is more likely to get you out of trouble. A few months ago I bought 2 cans of tyre gunk that I found on offer in the local Tesco, but they no longer stock it. A full size spare matching the other wheels will cost more, but gives more options for rotating tyres and replacing them in pairs. However there may be issues in fitting it in your boot.
  12. We have had a couple of periods here where supplies of petrol and diesel have been limited: once apparently due to panic buying, and once due to action by stop oil protesters blocking the fuel depots, and it can be a bit worrying driving round on empty looking for a filling station that has fuel available. In times like this I have been thinking that a PHEV would be useful, so at least I wouldn't get stranded while I was looking for fuel. This may be worth a thought when considering a replacement vehicle, though refuelling before the tank gets really low may be sufficient to safeguard against this potential problem.
  13. I remember seeing a brochure for the Business editions at the time, but can't remember the full details now. I think they may have included satnav and some other extras for a more favourable price than the standard cars, and were only available to company car drivers when new. https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/skoda/octavia/86565/skoda-se-business-range-launched
  14. I think this car will be Euro 5, as Euro 6 did not become mandatory for diesel cars until September 2015 when the 65 plates came in. So it will not meet the emissions standard of the London ULEZ (Ultra Low Emissions Zone) and similar requirements present and future in other cities. Not necessarily a deal breaker in Norfolk. Also it will be one of the later cars implicated in the dieselgate scandal, i.e. engineered to cheat emissions tests and maybe "fixed" subsequently. Probably not a big deal if it drives OK, and the Skoda Approved Used should offer some peace of mind, but you only need to go 6 months newer to get Euro 6.
  15. Carplay is for iPhones. The equivalent for Android phones is Android Auto. As far as I know any car equipped with Carplay is also equipped with Android Auto, so this is probably the way to go if you have a suitable mobile of either type.
  16. No, I'm not saying that. They will have changed since my car came out, and given the limited supply of cars at present, you may not be able to get one with a particular Satnav. In fact looking at a brochure for the latest Octavia MK4 it mentions a new Skoda Connect Online Infotainment System with 3D Columbus Navigation, or a Bolero unit without Satnav, but no longer any Amundsen. Personally I am happy with the level of tech in my MK3, but I am not sure I would be ready to take it all to the next level that exists in the MK4 with its online connectivity and software updates.
  17. I have satnav on the Amundsen in my 2015 car. As I understand it, the main satnav system is contained within the Amundsen unit, and the SD card is storage for the maps. This is useful because you can take out the SD card and plug it into your home PC when the maps need updating. With this system you have a full set of maps with you all the time and replace it with an updated set of maps once every few months as and when new updates are released. Running nav on a mobile phone with Google maps or a similar app is a bit different, as you will be downloading up to date maps over the mobile data network in real time as the routes are calculated. Coming from a 2008 car you will find the infotainment very different, and if you are used to playing CDs you will need to come to terms with mp3s and/or streaming.
  18. Why do you think the pressure should be lower just because the wheel is smaller? It doesn't seem logical to me though I don't know for sure. With tyre inflation I would err on the side of over rather than under inflation, so would agree with Sepulchrave who replied just now while I was typing. Probably a good idea to get a proper wheel and tyre fitted a.s.a.p.
  19. If you have narrowed it down to the Octavia, probably best to disregard the Kodiaq, but if you are still unsure no reason you can't try both, and see how you feel after that.
  20. Lots of more recent Octavias are listed as 2017, it seems to indicate that they are the facelifted version. If you want to be sitting a bit higher up, maybe you should be considering an Octavia Scout, though it will use a bit more fuel than the standard car. It feels noticeably higher than our previous car which was a regular Octavia Mk2. The Scout is quite rare and you would need to look at a slightly older car, as the Scout was dropped from the range around 2018, there are facelifted Scouts in existence. There are a couple of 2016 Scouts on Autotrader, but I would advise caution, as the seller has received some bad reviews. Prior to the MK2 Octavia I had a MK4 Mondeo estate and was a bit concerned that the Skoda would not be spacious enough, but I was keen on Skoda, and at that time (2007) the Superb did not exist as an estate. My concern turned out to be unfounded, and I find my present Octavia has plenty of load space, and suits me better than a Superb, as our driveway is a bit restricted. There is plenty of room in the back of the Octavia for our German Shepherd. I had a Karoq recently as a courtesy car, and the boot was noticeably smaller than that of the Octavia.
  21. The 1.0 seems like a very small capacity for a car the size of an Octavia, but it does have 108 BHP which is much the same as previous engines with higher capacities. I have never driven the 1.0 but would feel more comfortable with at least a 1.5 petrol or a 1.6 diesel. I am very happy with the 2.0 litre 183 PS in my Scout. Going back to 1989 I had a Peugeot 405 petrol estate with 1.9 litres and 104 BHP, and that seemed perfectly fine at the time, even towing a caravan. Looking at your previous posts I picked out two approved used cars for your shortlist: https://usedcars.skoda.co.uk/en/used-cars/skoda/octavia/estate-2017-15-tsi-150ps-act-se-l-dsg-k5ctlks https://usedcars.skoda.co.uk/en/used-cars/skoda/octavia/estate-16-tdi-115-ps-se-technology-dsg-nxb8pe3 These are both MK3 cars, and looking at some of the software problems that people on here seem to be having with the MK4 I would be a bit hesitant about going with the MK4 at the present time.
  22. Welcome Matthew, I hope you don't have a leaky silicate bag in the expansion bottle of your cooling system. This can be a costly thing to fix if not caught in time. Maybe worth having a look and consider removing the bag even if it's still intact.
  23. Happened to me when I took out insurance with Marshmallow last December. Had to do an ID check where I uploaded a photo of my licence and a selfie. A right PITA, as it needed several photos to achieve one that matched my licence pic.
  24. Sorry for coming to this a bit late but I only saw this thread just now. Last December I insured my car with Marshmallow and had to do an ID check which needed me to upload a photo of my licence and a selfie. Never had to do anything like this before. PITA as it took several attempts to get the selfie to match my licence photo. https://www.marshmallow.com/article/why-do-i-have-to-do-an-id-check
  25. You could just call the dealer and book the service, or if you would prefer book with an independent. The dealer may have enough work on already given possible staff shortages due to covid. They may even have forgotten about last year.
