  1. Up to Thursday last it was still at the dockside in Emden waiting for a boat to UK. Dealer is taking my trade-in Yeti next Thursday and loaning me a Superb Sportline 1.4 Hatch to take on holiday to Austria. I'm hoping my Octavia will be here when I get back 2nd week in July. I guess they have a buyer for my Yeti. John
  2. My Octavia SE Estate (1.0 DSG) was ordered on 20th February with build due for week commencing 4th June. Build was brought forward by one week to week commencing 28th May. Additional specification as follows: Ordered with standard Pacific Blue which became Energy Blue Adaptive Cruise Control Net Partition Crew Protection Assist and Rear Side Airbags Multi Function Colour Trip Computer Floor Mats Heated Front Seats Electrically Folding and Dimming rear view mirrors I ordered SE spec because I wanted 16" wheels to match my set of snow tyres and chains. John
  3. On the other hand, dealer is loaning me a 1 month old Superb Sportline Hatch 1.4 DSG to take to Austria rather than put the miles on my Yeti . Hopefully when I get back the Octavia will have arrived.
  4. Mine's in the same boat (pun intended). Built last week in May and waiting at Emden for a boat to UK since at least 7th June. I was told that there had been an issue with some UK ports being congested as they were full of new cars waiting for collection. Don't know if that's true. john
  5. My Octavia 1.0 SE Estate has been at Emden for over a week now. I'm driving to Austria on 23/6 and had been hoping to have it by then but I don't think that's going to happen. Dealer is considering whether to loan me a car rather than put miles on my Yeti. John
  6. I think you're probably right, John
  7. Hi RickW I see you have an A40 Farina. I've just sold my M-B 300E-24 (reluctantly) as 3 cars was one too many for us. Probably the only car I was sad to see go and it's left a hole John
  8. Mrs JST isn't keen but I think it would be fine. Ours is only 60bhp, but it goes just fine. It might seem dwarfed by the roof-box! I'll see what the dealer offers. A Kodiaq would be nice... John
  9. I'm hoping for an Octavia VRS Estate!
  10. That would be my worry. I've found as I've gone through life that any feedback that isn't positive is viewed as negative. No half way. As things stand my new car is still in Emden with the clock ticking on my holiday. The dealer has said they may loan me a car for my holiday to save mileage on my Yeti (about 2,500) so they are trying. John
  11. Hi all what's the longest trip anyone's done in a Citigo? Long story short. We're setting off to Austria on 24/6. We have a Yeti but are replacing it with an Octavia Estate. We had hoped the new car would have arrived but it's currently sat in the quayside in Emden waiting for a ferry. We might just have it in time. However dealer is wondering whether to loan me a car to go with and take the Yeti from us to save the mileage which I estimate at about 2,500. And then I started wondering how it would be to go in our Citigo. 4 of us. With a roof box. I'm sure the Citigo would cope and certainly no worse than the Metro D we did the same trip with many years ago. Not saying I'll do it, just wondering. John
  12. On a previous Yeti, the same dealer rang my wife to tell her that the oil in the DSG gearbox on her 1.2 petrol Yeti needed changing. When she told me I said I'm sure it's a "dry" gearbox and sealed. It was only after she queried that they rang back to say that it dd not in fact need the oil to be changed! It makes you wonder! John
  13. This, I fear, is where they have you. A little story. We owned a 3-year old Nissan Leaf from last July to April (when we traded it for a Citigo - a better car in just about every way). It was serviced by a main dealer in November. Some 4 weeks later, the rear brakes were grabbing so badly in reverse after the handbrake had been on that you had to give it a significant burst of power to unstick them. I took it into the dealer and grumbled when I was told I would have to pay. But the car's still under warranty and you only serviced it four weeks ago. They said, "it's probably a build up of brake dust in the handbrake drums". I said "you should have seen it when you did the service". They said "we never take the wheels off". Dumb-founded, I said well it's an electric car that has no oil, no oil filter, no valves, in fact nothing but a maintenance free electric motor and of course, wheels. The only thing I could determine they had done on the inspection was to have topped off the screen-wash. And of course they did the customary wash and vac. As Ryeman said earlier "this is where they make their survival money".
  14. I'm on a PCP and think I need to have a manufacturer's service record. John
  15. I'm in two minds about this as I have got a really good deal to replace my Yeti. My new car is waiting on the quayside at Emden so I'm loathe to queer the pitch. The dealer is really good in so many ways but becoming excessively costly in my view. The new car will be my 15th car from them. john
  16. I was Operations Director of a large bus company (200 buses, 2 workshops and 30 skilled engineers) until I became semi-retired. My father was Fleet Engineer of a large hsulage operator and my son is a qualified Heavy Vehicle Mechanical and Electrical Engineer (Level 3) so I reckon that I have the knowledge and expertise to do the service myself. But, I need the official stamp! John.
  17. Just booked in with another dealer at £149 inc VAT. 40 miles away so 30 more than my nearest dealer but nearly half the original price. Quote "we work on menu pricing, not fixed price and we will do the oil change and check brakes, front suspension etc". I hate being taken for a fool! Guess where I'll be going with my new Octavia! John
  18. I challenged the original price of £299 and said that I was expecting a new Octavia which I had hoped would have been delivered by now. They said "as you're buying a new car from us we can knock £50 off". I said I thought it was excessive for an oil change and a quick look over. They said something like it will need a pollen filter change... Unfortunately time is not on my side as I'm off on holiday with the car next week so need to have the service done by a dealer to maintain the recovery etc and I'm also on a PCP until the car is traded. My cars are immaculate inside and out so I do object to paying for a £100 wash and vac which is essentially what it is. But what can you do? John ps I will probably buy a fixed price package for the Octavia!
  19. You're quite right of course! J
  20. Thanks Stubod. Yes, it's a main dealer price. In fact it was £299 but as I have an Octavia on order, they've knocked £50 off. The newly built Octavia is at Emden waiting to be ferried to the UK. I had hoped that I would have had the new car before the Yeti needed its service but as I'm going on holiday with the car on 24/6, it looks like I'm going to have to swallow the cost! John
  21. Hi all Just been quoted £249 for a first service (oil plus inspection) on my 1.2 Yeti DSG. Car is just 2 years old with 18,375 miles and on extended servicing intervals. That sounds a bit steep. Does it sound right to others? Thanks John
  22. Great post! My 1.0 DSG SE Estate is at Emden waiting to get a ship to UK. John
  23. Well done! I think we've had 14: 2 Felicias 2 Fabia Estates 2 Roomsters 3 Citigos 4 Yetis 1 Superb Estate. they haven't all been brand new and 11 have been from Simpsons in Colne or Preston (who I've always found very good to deal with). Number 15, an Octavia 1.0 SE with DSG was built this week and is en route to or at Emden waiting to come to the UK. We currently have a Yeti 1.2 SE L DSG which is being replaced by the Octavia and recently exchanged a Nissan Leaf for a three year old Citigo SE with ASG (our second ASG) which are, as you said, quite rare. However, we got more for the Leaf than we paid for it last July so we walked away with a Citigo and a cheque for £1,700 which seemed OK! John
  24. Bought a VW Golf in the 80s. It was one if the first that VW said did not require an early oil change (1 month/1,000 miles I think). Irrespective of whether that was good or not so good, the dealer had put stickers on the owners manual and the service book saying along the lines of "although VW do not require a 1,000 mile oil change we recommend you have this done within 1 month or 1,000 miles whichever is sooner". Clearly it was not in the dealer's financial interest to follow VW's servicing regime. Call me cynical... but if ŠKODA says the belt will last for over 100,000 miles, why would you change it at 43k? indeed if the belt failed before then, would there not be a potential claim for a part having failed before the end of its planned life? John
