MK2 fabia tappets/lifters tapping noise on idle
Hi my Fabia has the 1.4 BXW 63kw engine I got it last July and I've noticed there's a clicking/tapping noise at idle, it seems to tap to a different rhythm. Had anybody had the same issue with this engine. Could it be the tappets/lifters Thanks for any help

Fabia MK2 radiator fan Air con
Hi I've I have a Fabia MK2 1.4 BXW I've noticed when I put the air con on when the engine is cold the fan only comes on when the engine is about 75 degrees. Is this normal for Skoda's. Just making sure it's not faulty. Thanks

Fabia 1.2 engine, common problems
Hi I am currently looking at a new car for my mum. I've got the 1.4 BXW Fabia 2008 and she likes that car. I've been looking for one but at the moment I can only seem to find the 1.2 model (it will be a 2008 to 2010 model with the budget) I've heard it's quite common on the 1.2 to have an issue with the pistons burning out. Does anyone know if this is true or if they have had Anny issues with this engine. Thanks

Wet footwells
If there is a scrap yard near by you could always get one from a car there as long as it's in good condition. You can pull them out by hand or with a pry tool if it helps, and they just push back in, and the door seal sometimes have little plastic clips it connects too. You could always find a video on YouTube for a guide. If you get new ones you can get rubber treatment that you can spay on it might stop it drying up and hardening.

Yeah hopefully they will be sat well

Yeah it's definitely off centre. I've seen photos on eBay of the full struts from the scrap yards and the spring looks to be sat a lot more comfy than this one. I've just seen some Monroe springs for £29 each hopefully luckily it will be sorted then.

And it was the same spring on the new shock. It definitely looks odd. I thought it might have balanced itself when when it's got weight on it but nope.

Strut mount bolt
When I got the car last year it had brand new springs on so I only replaced the shock and mount and moved the spring over, I put it on the same way as I took it off the old shock, I checked the ends and they was still coated in paint so there was no broken ends. It did look abit odd shaped when I put them and the same when I was taking them off. I noticed the flattest end of the spring was at the top so I was assuming it was the right way up. It's either upside down or the wrong spring for the car, I guess I'll live and learn. This it what it looked like on the old shock

Front suspension rubbing against inner wheel arch
Oh bugger, it looked like it was the flattest part was the top but when I put it back on I kept them the same way up as o took them off. Guess it will be easier to get new springs fitted I was going to get new springs when I did the shocks but I've not had the car that long and they had just been replaced so I thought I would re use them. I guess it's a lesson learnt. Thanks for your help I'll get some ordered tomorrow.

Strut mount bolt
Thanks I decided to strip the whole area out on both sides and give it a good service in that area. Now I've ran into a another issue. I originally had a creaking noise when I turn the wheel which I assumed was the strut mounts. Only to find out the creaking was still there after I changed them along with new shocks. I reused the same spring and ive just got to the bottom of the creak it was the spring rubbing against the inner arch so I'm guessing the previous owner had the wrong spring fitted and now it's all fitted back on my car :s

Front suspension rubbing against inner wheel arch
Hi I've had an issue with creaking when I turn Ive checked everything and changed all ball joints and put new shocks and mounts in hoping it was the mount or the strut. As soon as I put it in it made no difference to the creaking. So today I jacked the car up and started dismantling one thing at a time off the steering knuckle to narrow it down i ended up with just the driveshaft and strut left on it and then I managed to find the creak and it was the spring rubbing against the inside of the arch when I turn it. When I got the car it had new springs on so I reused them as I've only done a few thousand miles on them. I'm just concerned now that if I buy another pair they could be the same or the previous owner had fitted the wrong springs on. I've put a photo of the springs on does this look like it's the wrong springs and way offset. I seated the springs properly in the groove stop. Looking at other struts online the springs sit closer to the dust boot at the back but then more spaced out towards the front to allow room for movement. If I get new springs from BBC Superfactors or ECP that say it's for standard suspension would this be the right fit. Thanks for any help

Creaking steering when turning right at slow speeds
Hi I've got an 08 Fabia MK2 1.4 BXW 5J I got this car just over a year ago and noticed there was a slight cradling noise on full lock, now it's become excessive and starts creaking as soon as I start turning right. It's hard to explain the creak noise but it's like a rubbery popping creak. I've put new strut mounts, shocks and springs in, I've changed the rod ends and lower ball joint. I've greased everything I can. I took the away bar links out to see if it was those or the bar bushings but still the same creaking. It all seems to be pointing towards the rack it's self now, I can't see any signs of leaks, I pulled the boot back and the rack teeth are all cream and not rusted or anything. Has anyone had a similar issue on the MK2 I've read that slot of people have had a similar issue when turning right and they've had it fixed under warranty and its been the inner tie rods. Has anyone had the creaking go away after having them replaced. Mine still has the original tie rods on so I'll be more than happy to swap them if it fixes it.

Strut mount bolt
Looking at my manual it's showing that you have to separate the drive shaft to get the strut out. I've ordered 2 new hub nuts from eBay. I was hoping I wouldn't of had too but then again it might be easier to strip the steering knuckle apart from the strut and then undo the 3 bolts at the top and take it out attached to the knuckle. It's really rusted at the bottom so it will probably save some time but while it's out I can give it a good scrub with a wire brush and change the lower nut and bolt and coat it on grease so it will be easier next time in case I ever need to change the strut it's self. Hopefully I will get a day next week where it doesn't rain

Strut mount bolt
I've ordered some from eBay they say they are genuine OE but weather they are or not I'll see. I've tried a spark plug socket on it and that fits so I might try that with a long Allen key socket but I've got some swan neck spanners if not. I changed the spring on my girlfriends fiesta a couple last year but I know each car is different. I've got the work shop manual section printed off ready. Everything else looks fine the springs were new on the car when I got it (I'm guessing that's what the previous owner thought it was) the shocks seem fine just surface rust on the frame and the bumper and dust covers all seem good.

Strut mount bolt
Thanks wino that a great help. I picked the mounts up this morning from euro car parts but there was no nut with it. I'll have a look on eBay for a nut I've found the bottom bolt and nut and the 3 fixing nuts for the mount but struggled finding the nut. It's a handy website is that for finding part numbers and stuff. If It came down to it I probably would have reused it but if I can get a new nut I might as well replace it. I can't wait to swap the mounts over it creaks like mad haha Thanks Again

Strut mount bolt
Hi I have a MK2 fabia, 2008, 1.4 BXW engine. I'm going to be replacing my strut mounts as they are creaking and making a popping sound. I've got all the parts ordered now including all replacement nuts and bolts. But I can't seem to find a replacement top strut mount nut. Does anyone know the part number of size details of the nut? Also has anyone reused this nut? Thanks for any help Franky

Electric window not working.
Ah it sounds like it could be the cut out system then because both sides stoped working completely untill I did the battery trick. And yeah that makes sense because when I had the motor in my hand it was turning perfectly and then when I put it back on it struggled and cut off again so it must be struggling. I do clean around the seals when I wash the car but I think it will probably need a deeper clean. When I change the cable regulator I'll take the glass out and give it a good scrub and I'll get a butter knife with a rag and get right in the seal gaps. And I might disconnect the whole loom and spend some time following the wires right threw and solder any damages wires. Thanks for your help

Electric window not working.
Hi I have a MK2 Fabia 1.4 2008 Yesterday I had some trouble with my electric window I put them both down when I got in the car to let all the stuffy heat out before I put the air con on. The passenger window went right down but the drivers side stoped about 2 inch from the bottom I put both windows back up once I got on the motorway and when I went to put them down later on there was no response on either the driver or passenger side. I've had a look at it today. The fuses was fine, ive checked the wiring loom from the door to the car and some of the wire insulation is starting to split but I put electrical tape around each wire so none are touching each other. Ive checked the motor and switch with a multimeter and there is power going to it. When the motor was taken off it would work freely from the switch and the passenger side was working fine. I put it all back together again and then it worked great but then just cut off and it wouldn't work again untill I took the Moto off and disconnected and reconnected the battery again. I took the metal plate off to get to the cable to see if it's jamming or needs some silicone grease and the gear with the cable around came out. I tried putting it back together again but it just kept winding around in the gear and crimped it's self together. I've took the cable out and put everything back together and I can hear the motor working freely and the passenger side is working. I'm going to order a new cable regulator and give it all a good clean inside. Is there anything else on the window system like a relay or anything that could keep cutting out I'm out of options now. Thanks for any help

Timing belt replacement
Hi My car is over 10 years old so I've decided I want to replace the timing belt as i don't know the full service history of the car. My car is a MK2 Fabia with the 1.4 BXW engine. I have took the top cover off the belt to see the condition of the belt and I've noticed the cam locking points look like they are off set, the engine still drives fine I'm guessing with the different size in gears it will it need quite a few turns on the crank shaft to get it lined up or does this look completely offset? Any help would be great :)

Amundsen+ map updates
Hi I am wanting to update the maps on my Amundsen+ it currently has v4. I have seen some on eBay that have the VW logo, if I use this one will it still have the Skoda navigation logo or will it show VW logo? I have seen the v9 and some say 2018 and others say 2019/2020, can you have different years but still the v9? Also is eBay the best option or is there somewhere you can pay for a direct download and then put it on a SD card? Thanks
