  1. Excatly the same error I was having with the Shark fin antenna. And with that the radio reception was rubbish. I don't think the aerial base is very easy to corrode. It's very well protected. Maybe the cable plug has come off from the aerial?
  2. I second that. In my case dealer told that the MaxiDot retrofit is not possible, Stu said yes it is. And guess what, Stu was absolutely correct and now I have a working, beautiful MaxiDot on my car which Stu supplied
  3. True, infact VAG has also already proven that they can do the same smooth power delivery from the lowest low to the highest high with just normal turbocharger on a smaller petrol engine (1.4TSI 120hp). By optimising the flow channels inside the engine and refining the intake part. And this is the interesting part. Already now there are numerous complaints here from the people who have the double charger version of the 1.4TSI engine. The usual problems are that the supercharger doesn't activate and the car is powerless on lower rpm's. In Finland we drive in pretty harsh conditions sometimes and I personally have doubts about the supercharger's durability in these conditions. The charger's actually work a little while together just to make sure that the power delivery is as smooth as possible. Anyway, back to the topic. Interesting to see what the Geneva car expo reveals about Skoda next week. They'll of course introduce the new Superb officially, and possible new engines for the Octavia II. 1.4TSI, 1.6CR TDI and 2.0 CR TDI, atleast that's what I'm hoping for.
  4. Atleast you can ask them to check the fault codes for antenna connection. The reason I'm insisting on this is that I changed my antenna to the VW Shark fin one and immediately got bad reception when away from any city area. The radio showed a fault code "Antenna open or closed circuit". Radio transmits the voltage for the antenna amplifier through the antenna wire. The shark fin didn't have internal amplifier circuitry like the original whip has. When I re-installed the whip antenna and cleared the fault codes it didn't show up anymore and the reception got much much better. Usually all O2 radios have pretty good signal strength no matter where you are, but with Roomster, it's a different story. It's radio reception is pure sh**e. Couldn't get the radio functioning properly even in city area. Oh, and this might be a stupid question, but do you have the automatic frequency seek active on Stream options? AF ON and seek DX?
  5. Do you have the original whip antenna on the roof? If you have a possibility to check the fault codes from the radio, it shows if the antenna connection is malfunctioning. This needs to be done at the dealers or with a Vag-Com if you have access to that.
  6. No, your car is probably older model year which didn't have the light. I think the cruise indicator light is on cars from model year 2007 onwards.
  7. Coming home lights are activated only if you drive the car around and then stop and turn off the engine. They don't stay lit if you just unlock the door and lock it again. Car has to move between Settings seem to be ok if they're on looked through the Maxidot and you have the "auto" position on the light switch.
  8. I don't have the low buzz, could it be a grounding issue in your case? Sure sounds like it. Did you have to edit your mp3 files to play them properly? I mean in my case I had to lower the gain setting in mp3's, otherwise they sounded terrible. The sound distorted and started clipping.
  9. Hi, I got my Xcarlink mp3 car interface delivered yesterday and installed it right away. Now it seems that the unit is malfunctioning. It skips tracks however it wants and the sound quality is absolutely terrible. It distorts on higher frequencies and is on very low volume. Has anyone with Xcarlink (if there's actually anyone ) suffered from the same problems? I'm wondering is the unit itself faulty or is there something wrong with my installation. I have pre 2006 Stream. Thanks for any help. Edit : Ok, some updates to the situation. I tried the aux input on the xcarlink and it seemed to work mostly. If the volume on the source device is over 60% is starts to distort the sound. So it seems that the amplification on the xcarlink is too high and because of that it probably overloads the Stream's line input thus causing the distortion to the sound. So probably a faulty unit..... Edit 2 : Ok, problem solved. I got around the amplifier issue by running mp3gain to the mp3 files and lowering the gain setting to 75. Now they seem to play nicely. I have to crank the stream volume up double the amount than when listening to radio, but I can live with that.
  10. As a word of warning. This OEM Shark Fin aerial weakens the radio reception by a great deal. Actually it weakens it so much that you'll be lucky to hear anything when driving on countryside. If you wan't smaller antenna, use the OEM Sharan antenna (6.5cm) which you can swap by just pulling the old whip away and screwing this in it's place. This antenna has as strong radio reception as the original.
  11. You don't need to do anything on the radio, it's not even possible to adjust the clock on the radio itself. And the radio doesn't need to be in any special state, just on. The clock is set with the kn0b on the instrument cluster which also updates the clock of the radio. Turn the kn0b left to add hours and right to add minutes. The same kn0b what you use to reset the trip counter by pressing it. Hope this clears it for you
  12. Not possible on the Stream unit itself or any other Skoda HU for that matter. The clock can be changed on the MFD (Multi-function display) display and it will update the Stream clock aswell. You adjust the clock on the MFD by turning the **** on the instrument cluster. Turn left to adjust hours and turn right to adjust minutes.
  13. Try here, Cruise Control Retrofitting (1K) - Ross-Tech Wiki There's a pretty good cross-reference list on what controller is working with what function and with what slip rings they're compatible with. edit: And there seems to be an error on the list. It list's the AQ module as a midline variant which doesn't support MFSW when infact this has been confirmed to work by numerous sources.
  14. Headlamp units come off very easily, and it's probably the only way to get the sidelights changed. Of course if you have fingers like spider-man then it MIGHT be possible. Anyway you have to remove the ballast from the back of the headlamp unit to get to the sidelight bulb. Look here : Octavia-vRS.com - Changing Front Lamps - Octavia II
  15. Actually that looks very nice. So does McSkoda's antenna. I think it's a perfect match for Octavia or Fabia. Definetly a much sportier look to it now
  16. It should come off. You have to pull it straight up after unscrewing the antenna whip. If you try to pull it when it's lowered to the "wash" position, it won't come off. Congratulations, tomorrow you'll join the Skoda clan officially
  17. As promised, here's some pictures of the regular antenna and the "anti-theft" mechanism.
  18. I would be very interested in this too. Mainly I'd need the 4-spoke multi-function steering wheel without airbag only, as my current plain 4-spoke wheel airbag should be ok. I can source the other parts from here.
  19. In Vag-Com -> Central electronics -> Coding -> Long coding helper and from there tick both Coming home and Leaving home. Press "transfer coding", and in coding windows press "do it". That's it. Remember if you don't have light assist, coming home lights only work when you're light switch is on daylight driving position, but that's not a problem because you can leave it there permanently, it doesn't give the buzz beep sound when car engine off and you open the drivers door. Leaving home works no matter where you set your light switch to.
  20. Sorry, no pictures at the moment, but I can take one tomorrow. Getting the whip off is REALLY easy, just pull up and that's it. And what's best, you can easily put it back, just push it back in and turn the antenna to the "wash" position. It locks back in. The reception is ok when driving on highway or any larger road. In cities near tall buildings the reception gets worse. One part of the problem probably is the Stream itself. The radio part on that isn't very good, and I'm thinking about changing the HU for something more suitable like I mentioned in my previous post.
  21. I installed the original VW shark fin antenna earlier this week. Installation was pretty straightforward. I also had a time to take a look at the "anti-theft" protection on the original antenna, and guess what. It's very easy to get the whip part out, you just unscrew the whip and like Basil said, you just pull it up and that's it. Some anti-theft.... But the bad news, antenna reception gets worse. I've now had it for few days, and I can tell you that you'll lose reception quality even on strong FM channels. Not much, but enough to be heard. Now I need to change the HU for something better, maybe for the JVC touchscreen thingy
  22. The clutch judder when cold is a common problem in TDI engines. It has something to do with dual-mass flywheel. Usually Skoda fixes it by replacing the flywheel. Manufacturing fault I think. I've heard that some 2.0 FSI engines have had the same problem, but I've never heard that 1.6 FSI suffers from it.
  23. Ok, thank you Theresias once again. I'll change the setting to potentiometer, currently it's on adaptation.
  24. Ok, so let's see if I got this right. When it's on adaptation, the lights on/ lights off function depends on what you set it at, and when it's on potentiometer, it all depends what brightness the rain/light sensor "sees"? So which one is correct if I want the lights to work depending on how bright it's outside? It seems like the potentiometer setting should be my choice then, am I correct?
