  1. Is that your standard bonnet with holes cut in it,or is it an s2000 bonnet thats been painted white. Is it even possible to find a s2000 bonnet these days as they would have only been used on rally cars?
  2. I personally like the sound of a buzzy 3 cylinder but a muffler delete may drive your neighbours nuts, especially if you get up for work early in the morning. Havent any experience specifically with a 1.2 htp though.
  3. Not sure on the sheep dip scenario, I know someone who had to get warranty work done on their car and they didnt do any sort of cleaning or anything before or after fixing the car. There were even oily prints around the front of the car from someone working on it! Granted some dealers may be taking it more seriously but thats just my 2 cents.
  4. Is it the white stuff near the bead of the tyre or is it black and greasy all on the sidewall. If its the latter its just the tire shine dealers use. If its the former then its just the stuff tire shops use to help get the tire on the rim, will come off in one or two washes.
  5. Just get a Tdi monte carlo... or swap in a 1.6 tdi powertrain, would be an easier swap I presume as it is made for a fabia 2.
  6. This might be the way to go for me then, sort of the "best of two worlds" I figure thats how most dpf deletes get done around here, either that or a straight pipe.
  7. This is one way I have heard of doing it. I didn't know whether it was a word of mouth thing or if it actually worked. I heard of drilling out a certain size hole to bypass it but I can't remember what size off the top of my head.
  8. Good point I did post that at 1am so I wasnt able to make any sort of decent argument. I dont have any low emissions zones near me. I'm not worried about fines or anything as its unlikely I would find myself in the situation where that stuff would be checked. So long as I'm not rolling coal everywhere no one would bother to check if a dpf is installed we dont really have low emissions zones in Ireland so That wouldnt matter anyway. Its moreso removing it to prevent it clogging and causing trouble rather than gutting it to make way for maximum power. I'm not concerned with a little bit of smoke nor a bit of a sulphur smell at idle. Both sepulchrave and Amd have valid points, as I believe I have said before,I have time to make a decision either way so I can see whether the dpf starts causing trouble. In which case that thing is getting ripped out. If not, i'll have to consider things as they sit.
  9. Lot of useful bits of information here. I haven't gotten a remap on my car (been dragging my feet as I wanted to save that money incase I needed to fix anything for Nct). I hope to get 150 hp out of my car for now and keep it at that power for atleast a year or two ,so I likely wouldnt have to delete the dpf out of concern for it being messed up by (presumably) higher egt's. If I can keep it installed without worrying about it clogging up (which it shouldn't do with my driving) that would be great,But I know quite a few people with newer diesels where the dpf has proven to be the achilles heel to an otherwise completely reliable car, and its not typically due to operator error. I'm still 50/50 on keeping it in or not, if I can just get the regen mapped out and the egr turned way back that would suit me fine (for now.)
  10. My car is mostly ready for its nct but I need to do a few things to it. Firstly I need to do the exhaust, then I need to get standard license plates, lastly I need to find a way to free up the seatbelts some more but I believe if I leave the seatbelts clasped in They will pass. After that I have 2 years to do whatever I want mod wise.
  11. So since my car is going for its test next month,I can start getting things in order for making a bit of power out of it. I'm hoping to remove the egr and dpf. Does anyone have any suggestions on a dpf less downpipe? I want to run without a dpf mostly because I dont want the expense of having to buy a replacement to get through emissions. I want to be able to swap it back whenever it goes for its next test which would be august 2022 providing it passes this time.
  12. It adds character (and hides the dents).
  13. Got some cheapo gauges to put in the fabia under the radio. It has oil and water temp plus an oil pressure gauge. Got them cheap enough and while they're probably not the best and most accurate gauges they'll do the job in the sense that it'll show that I have some oil pressure and the temps aren't too high. Also decided to throw up my most recent picture of it, dirt et al. Finally, with the covid situation as it is I have seen a few fabias up going cheap enough for me to look at. I actually went to see an identical fabia to mine with a 1.4 mpi engine but ended up not getting it. Even though it only had 95000 miles it was arguably in WORSE condition than my car. I didnt think the engine would make it the 30 km or so home and so I left empty handed. The search continues!
  14. Got a midpipe and backbox off ebay for 80 euro shipped. Its only a replacement for the standard one for now, just to pass its nct come august. After that I'll have 2 years until its next nct so I figure I can mod away once it goes through. Pics of the new and old exhaust,no way the old one will pass and atleast the new exhaust will clean things up underneath. Plus,it has a 30 month warranty. All things considered, for 80 euro I'm happy with the quality
  15. Fair enough I've been so bored lately I've just spent all my time tidying up all the stuff no one will ever see.
  16. Looks like its in need for a good cleaning under the bonnet! I did my fabia the other night and it came up a treat. Also, i'd remove the plastic piece where the intake hose would have connected to the grille. Its just 2 torx screws and it comes off.
  17. I'm just south of the border with northern ireland about an hour from Dublin and an hour from Belfast.
  18. A new cheap filter every year is better than a pricey one every two. As long as maintenance is kept regular enough you can get away with the cheaper stuff.
  19. So can we say that 240 or so hp is the limit for a stock bottom end? Its still impressive for a 1.6 that should only make 105 hp to go to 263 hp even if only for a while.
  20. Was it a big job putting in a 2l? Are you still using the stock 5 speed? That is a serious leap forward in terms of power especially since a 2l might hold a better chance of taking the power reliably.
  21. I decided that since I have a thread started for my Monte Carlo,Why not have a thread dedicated to the car that got me to appreciate the Fabia platform as a whole. This is my 2001 Skoda Fabia Comfort 1.9 Sdi. I was given this car in February of 2017 as a car to practice how to drive in .It was bought for just €100 and was out of test about 3 months, however it had new tyres and new brake pads/discs but failed on emissions and a broken handbrake. I took it through all the fields on our farm and learned a massive amount of car control in the process. Since it had 64 hp I had to be constantly changing from gear to gear to keep it moving. And since it had no ABS I learned to put my left foot on the brake to stop the front wheels locking up,but that usually meant the rear wheels would lock instead and I would have to go through corners sideways! However by October I managed to crash it in a field, badly.
  22. This is my 2012 Skoda Fabia Monte Carlo, It is a 1.6 TDI 105 ps model with 89k miles. I bought it on the first of February and have imported it into Ireland since, however it has sat for since due to it being a pain to get insurance. Since it didn't need anything I only clayed and polished the paint, hopefully I will be able to get a remap in the coming months to about 140 ps but I have no other plans for the car. I can't justify doing anything right now as everything on the car is in good condition.
