  1. I'm pretty sure my turbo says KK3 on it somewhere.
  2. So in that case it might be possible to swap one for the other, I see. I'm moreso asking out of curiosity rather than actually planning on anything, from what I can see and feel, my turbo is still running in top shape.
  3. Good evening all. I'm just curious as to what turbo is meant to come on the 1.6 tdi engines. My car has a Borg Warner bv39-f turbo on it but from what i've gathered these come with garrett turbos too. Is there any easy way to know which car has what? Were the borg warners fitted to certain years or certain models? I'm more curious than anything else. Moreover, are the turbos interchangeable? If my turbo went tomorrow could I pull a garrett turbo off another 1.6 and bolt it up?
  4. Installed the gauges on the remains of the dash the other day. Still waiting on some stuff to wire them up so they're just in place for now.
  5. Heres some pics of the stick on jobs for reference. Much better than the mottled old badges beneath and well worth the few euro I paid for them on Wish. Pic of the old badge too for comparison.
  6. Can concur, I had the filament in the bulbs of my mk1 fabia go when I wrecked it a few years ago.
  7. Badges are dead easy to do and touch up just requires a steady hand. You can get stick on badges for the wheels which is what I did. I also got skoda valve caps for it too which I think look smart. I was considering putting the new logo badges on mine but I felt that the old logo badges set the car off better, mine's white too and it being a monte carlo I felt I should have a bit of colour on the car such as the green on the old badging. I personally have had good success with the stick on badges from wish. They look like the real deal on it and take a bit of age off the car (the old wheel badges were pitted and corroded to hell).
  8. Only noticed it because I did it before on another car. Rest of the car looks great though.
  9. I think the rear deflectors are on backwards on yours. The big part should be facing the front.
  10. Could you not get one of those plastic grille covers to keep the heat in? Also, how much of a pain is it to get the grille off? I'm planning on putting some stripes on the grille and I'd rather have it off the car for that.
  11. Also got some washers to raise the bonnet up a bit. Because of the bent front slam panel it sits low where the hinges are and makes it look odd so I just got some washers to put it up a few cm's. Looks better now.
  12. Got a new air filter for the fabia, it was on sale and for a fiver I couldnt pass it up. I knew mine was bad but I cant comprehend how bad it was. Pic isnt great and it makes the new filter look pinker than it should but still.
  13. I'd grab a set if they were put up again.
  14. I wanted to give it a day or two to make sure I didnt just wreck my engine. The first day it felt as though it pulled harder, but it wasnt too happy crawling throught town when it was busy, it does it sometimes and I assumed it was just trying to work out what was changing. It does it occasionally wherein it is very jerky at part throttle and when it does this it will always Idle at 1000 rpm rather than the 780 it should. I can think of a handful of times where it has done it but it just goes away after a while. The second day it seemed to work out the kinks and pulled pretty well. Its more lively now at part throttle and seems to spool a bit quicker/easier too. It also gives off a little bit of extra induction noise, not much but its there. I doubt I have made more power doing this but it seems just a little more lively anyhow. Would I recommend someone else to do this? Probably not. I am happy with the results however, my car was down for 2 days and it made a mess of my workspace. Not to mention that I almost lost an eye when one of the cutting disks came apart and flew past my head. If I were to do this again I would either buy another damper and do it on that one, so my car is only down for 2hours rather than 2 days. Or better yet I would have just bought a Darkside damper and be done with it. If a spare damper was £30 and a darkside one was £50 Its not worth the £20 difference to spend so much time to do it. Rather it would be much smarter to just buy the upgraded piece, install it and forget it.
  15. The pics here is the "near" finished product. I had bored the turbo side of it (big side) smooth, The o-ring is sitting under a ring that pops out, it pops back in easy so dont worry if you accidentally pop it out. I wanted to leave a bit of plastic around the "choke point" on the damper as I was worried I would burn through the plastic or weaken it too much, risking it snapping. when I had taken the worst of the rough out with a dremel I sanded it by hand with 120 grit then 800 grit to smooth it out slightly. I put all back and started it. I didnt record a video as it was midnight by the time I had it back together. On an unrelated note, this car sounds amazing without the air filter hooked up, I ran it like that to make sure I had tightened up all the hoses and that there was no boost leaks.
  16. Pics below are of me partway through the operation. I cut out the "rings" from eachother and the cut portions from the rings to make them easier to remove. Oddly, its not a solid molded piece like I had thought. The inner piece is pressed into place so instead of having to bore out the entire piece, I could chip away at the inner piece and get it out separately. If I had a better way, or a vice, I might have been able to pop it out as one piece. The lower portion (wider part at the turbo) is molded in place however so you have to cut it out, the top piece (intercooler side) is pressed. Last pic is of the cars holes covered as I spent much too long going at this and had to leave it for the night.
  17. Pic of the damper off of the car. Hose was a MASSIVE pain and took an hour to get off of the car and then damper without breaking it. I ended up using a tool to remove bike tires to separate the hose without breaking it. Pic of the damper off the car with part no. You can see that the hole is much smaller than what it could be. These pics are showing the inside of the piece.
  18. Did a thing the other night. I was going through old threads on briskoda and found one where someone had bought a spare turbo damper to modify and replace with the stock one. I researched futher and found that darkside makes a replacement piece, about £50 iirc. I also found that people have done this mod on tdi golfs. So I decided to do it myself. Pic related is the damper in question, just on the outlet into the intercooler.
  19. This place has given me so much advice on my fabias and is the reason I got the confidence to put mine back together to run another day. At this point i'll keep em both for as long as I can. Thanks for making such a place to research the ins and outs of these cars.
  20. Passed NCT second time round. Now it has NCT until late December 2022. The NCT extensions carry over so I get 4 months extra on top of the 2 years. Happy days!
  21. I was looking at the 18,500 and was thinking that you practically gave it away. Vrs' over here are not only hard to find for sale but they dont usually go as cheap as that and trust they would be without tax and with many mysterious stains on the white seats.Having said that, there are 2 mk1 vrs', my mk2 monte carlo and a mk3 monte carlo in my (small) town. Being close to a skoda dealer probably helps.
  22. Nice to have the part #. Thanks.
  23. So its sort of a spare key? Would the local motor factors stock the bulb for it? The filament is gone from mine.
