You might wanna check, mine was 5 years old or 40k miles whichever comes first...it just so happens that both fell at the same time as I only do about 7k a year due to it not being the only car in the household (we use the wife's for trips with the dog so mine doesn't get filthy 😀). The annoying thing is that the water pump went about a month after I bought the thing (it had 1k on the clock at the time) and it got replaced under warranty but Skoda only replaced the water pump and not the cam belt (i was a bit less informed at the time sadly). If yours hasn't been done at all yet then it might be long overdue given your mileage but don't quote me on that.

Just got mine back from garage (jndy). 2018 reg with 39k on the clock. Oil inspection service, MOT, CAM belt and water pump done as well as DSG service…just what you need right after Christmas lol ! Indy was nearly £400 cheaper than the stealers so could have been a lot worse! Good time to maybe flog it now or PX for a campervan 😜. It’s bloody filthy inside and owt, can’t wait till the better w weather comes so I can give it a right good going over!

I’m going to be looking into this in the next month or so, pretty sure my motor has the original factory pads and discs on still. The car has 35k on the clock (2018 reg) and I was wondering whether or not it’s best to replace both the pads and discs all round at the same time or just do the pads all round. I’m not even sure how I could tell if the discs need doing as well. is there any benefit to purchasing the parts myself and getting an Indy to fit them for me or would it work out about the same if I took it to them and told them what I wanted? I haven’t been that impressed with how good the brakes are on the car so I’d like better quality parts if that’s what it needs, any recommendations as to what some good options might be for me to look at? I’ve seen quite a few pictures on this forum and a seen a quite a few motors with significantly larger diameter discs than mine has, is there a benefit to that in terms of braking performance or is this more of a cosmetic thing?

Have a look under the front passenger seat pal, you might find a little storage compartment there as well if you’ve not come across that yet either!

Had the wonderful news that my coolant was contaminated (out of warranty). Had it in to a VAG indie and had the expansion tank replaced (minus the silica bag), including coolant flush etc and thankfully only cost me £200. Stealers wanted £300+ just to diagnose the issue ! Going back in to the VAG indie later for MOT and Service/Oil change later today (just done 30k miles).

Yeah I need to make a note or set some reminders in my phone to do this every 3 months maybe based on the miles I tend to do. The DSG oil change price above I don't like the look of....may look at purchasing extended warranty/servicing plan....assuming that's covered of course 😄

Wondering if this might do the job? Just out of curiosity, if the dipstick is just on the minimum level, how many ltr's is it likely to take to get it up to max level ?

Yesterday the dashboard flashed up a warning symbol for me to check oil level so I've just done this today having left the car overnight to cool down etc. Dipstick is showing oil just below the minimum level....simple enough to sort out!. The car was last serviced by my local skoda dealer on the 24th Nov last year, so around 10 months ago. Mileage at the time was 23100 and is now on 29300 (so just over 6000 miles done). Is this normal, assuming of course that the dealer did infact change the oil and the filter etc for it to have dropped so far in 6000 miles? Any recommendations on the best kind of oil for me to use to top it up? It's a 2ltr diesel sportline (2018) with 7sp DSG?

I've just purchased the Das Pro 6 hex logic pack from CyC - it comes with an orange and a white pad which should do me. A lot of people use a green pad which i think is less abrasive than the orange, i might get one of them separately but I'm gonna start out with the white pad initially I think as I think that will suffice for removing 90% of the swirls/surface scratches from my motor. All up I will have spent around £500 which i'll never need to spend again and should allow me to spend some time doing my car myself. My daughter has a 2003 VW Polo which is in really good nick and I've told her I might use her car as a guinea pig (it's red so should be good to test on). Looking at my car I don't think I'm gonna need to do the first stage using the Meguiars 105 Cutting compound with the orange pad, it's mainly scuffs, swirls and very light surface scratches which I think with a good wash, clay bar and then a couple of passes with the 205 on the white pad will bring it up rather nicely. Thanks for all of your help and tips....the internet is awash with info and the detailing threads already on here are useful as well so thanks for the info. I'll try and get some before/after shots and post on here when I eventually get around to doing it.

Seems there is a raft of information buried away on other threads on this but I just wanted to try and get a bit of steer to get me up and running with various bits and pieces. I'm following a few local places that offer full packages that range from interior exterior valeting, engine bay cleaning up to full on £500+ packages covering full machine polishing, detailing, ceramic coating heat drying full kit and caboodle jobbies...it's an absolute minefield. I'd be more than happy to pay £400-£500 for someone to do this for me as a sort of one off and then maintain things myself, alternatively I'd much rather spend that money (and possibly more) on getting some kit myself and doing it myself. My superb is a 2018 sportline in black...iirc its the magic pearl black (or something like that). It looks amazing when clean and shiney but there's a ton of swirling on it off the previous owner no doubt and numerous trips to handwash places that don't do things properly. I've had the car for a year and I've always washed it myself, the swirling has been there since I purchased it and i'd like to be able to sort it out if I can myself really. Any advice or links to products/sites that can help me out would be greatly appreciated. What are people using who do these things themselves in terms of the following :- 1. Wheels - Iron fall out remover and general washing/cleaning products 2. Car - snow foam/pre wash + shampoo. A snow foam pre wash followed by a 2 bucket handwash seems to be the most common approach which i'm more than capable of. 3. Swirl removal - i take it some old skool t-cut is not really the way to go nowadays. Am i best taking this somewhere to have done as a one off and then maintaining it with good washing/waxing practices beyond that? 3. Ceramic coating/waxing 4. Interior cleaners for dash etc. 5. Peripherals - wash mitts, buckets (with grit guards), drying towels, wheel brushes etc. 6. Most importantly....what the hell do people use to get all the crap out that gets trapped on the floor inbetween the edges of the drivers/passenger seats and the inner side of the sill area :-D I have a karcher pressure washer with a snow foam lance attachment so I'm sorted on that front and that has come in super handy thus far. I'm happy to purchase a reasonable entry level electric polisher with the require kit etc but then I start reading about places that calculate paint depths all over the car etc and it just makes me wonder whether this is a bigger job than it sounds or whether they are just taking the mickey a bit and trying to shoe horn a bit more money out of people for something that 99% of people won't care about or ever have to worry about etc. Seems like a bucket of water with car shampoo in it followed by rubbing the motor over with a tin of turtle wax has somewhat evolved over the years.

Sorry, i've got the wrong end of the stick here. My engine stop start button is fine, it's the button to turn on/off the stop/start functionality next to the gear stick that is knackered. Is that easy to replace and is it something i could potentially get done FOC at the dealers?

Seems like mine has gone now. 2 months out of warranty...typical. Is this something that’s easy to replace myself or is it something that my local dealer are still likely to replace FOC for me so close to the warranty expiring?

that looks well smart mate. I'm really tempted with the VC retrofit like. Just in terms of ballpark numbers, how much would I be looking at to have it done and is my only option to have it done by the dealers? Mine's a 2017 Sportline 150bhp model, same entertainment unit as yours in the pic above.

I have the exact opposite problem mate, much much quieter using my iphone connected via carplay than it is using BT...will double check above suggestion, pretty sure I've tried that but I might not have.

I don't normally use the apple car play and just stick with the BT connectivity but on occasions my phone is low on battery so i've hooked it up. Is it just me or is the volume when listening to music (using spotify) significantly lower using car play than when it's connected via BT....i've tried looking in all the settings to see if I can increase it but can't...any ideas? I'd probably like to use carplay more (wirelessly most probably) as the ui looks much nicer with proper album artwork etc but I need louder volume like....some choons just demand to be blasted out !

Without trying to state the obvious, you have checked that the individual areas aren't all turned off haven't you? Failing that i'm not sure what else it could be mate.

I had a really annoying rattling noise I could hear inside the car at certain times. Had it in at the dealers last week and advised them that I could hear creaking noises from the suspension when going over speed humps etc. They noticed that the undertray was loose so secured that back up. This wasn't the cause of the creaky suspension noises (still to be investigated again), however the rattly noise I could hear inside the car has now completely gone. I'm very happy now.....until I go over a speed bump that is :-D

Well, emissions light is back on so as advised I've called Skoda Assist. I have to say I'm massively impressed with this service (2nd time I've had to call them in 8 months). Called them at 9.50am this morning and a Skoda technician turned up just over an hour later. Hooked his laptop up and straight away found that the Glow Plug control unit is faulty. Replacement part ordered from the factory and he's coming back out to fit it tomorrow under warranty. Fingers crossed that sorts it once and for all. Starting the think the guys at the dealers just cleared the fault last week as they couldn't be arsed to deal with it. Will ring them up about the creaking noise and get that booked in to be looked at/sorted before getting it MOT'd. Thanks for all the help/pointers on here....very useful.

Car back from the dealers....some good news and bad news. Emissions light they could not find a root cause for so cleared the fault and told me to call Skoda Assist out if it comes on again, doesn't seem too unreasonable I guess. The day after the light came on I had to nip out for some bits and the oil level warning light came on so I stopped and checked it and could barely see anything on the bottom of the dipstick so went and purchased some (fairly cheap as I knew it was going in for the oil change service) so wondered if this might be related. Also made me wonder if it ACTUALLY got serviced by MotorDepot before I drove it away back in Feb this year (done about 6k miles since). Oil change service all done and dusted, was expecting to pay £184 for the privilege then just happened to check the skoda website for service plan prices and when I entered my reg number in it told me there was already a service plan in place for my car. Hastily digs out my documentation from when I purchased the car and low and behold there were 2 services purchased by the last owner. When I rocked up at the garage I asked them straight away to print me a copy of the service history which he duly did, and saw that it had only had 1 dealer service prior to me purchasing it.....so this one is free then I said ? The bloke wasn't very happy when he checked and realised it was....priceless and a very nice surprise. Creaking noise from the suspension they put down to the undertray being loose which they secured. I was slightly dubious at this as you sort of know roughly where these noises/feelings come from. The car does sound a lot quieter generally now so I'm pretty sure that the undertray may have been loose however the noises are still there so it's gonna have to go back in for them to have another look. Either that or I get the MOT done somewhere else mid-month next month and see if that flags anything up and then I take it back in for them to sort it under warranty (assuming it's covered of course) which I'd hope it would be on a car that's only done 23k miles and still under warranty. Will let you know how things pan out.

Need to get mine booked in soon. 3 year warranty is up on 15th Jan 2021 so will get the MOT done as soon as I can in Dec incase it throws anything up that I can get sorted under warranty. Car only has 23k on it (6k of which I put on it since purchasing it at the beginning of the year) so hopefully should sail through. Is it worth looking into extending the warranty with the dealers or can you get this elsewhere cheaper....what do people normally do in these situations as this is the first car I've owned that's had any warranty on it.

Booked in for an oil change service tomorrow. Emissions warning light came on the dash at the weekend (23k miles on the clock) so bit concerned as to what that could be, glow plug(s) perhaps. Warning light also came on to check oil level which I did and there was barely any touching the bottom of the dipstick. Big dubious as to whether it WAS actually serviced before I picked it up from CarSupermarket at the end of Jan this year....i've only done about 6000 miles in it since. Hearing a slight creaking noise from the front suspension every now and then when going over certain speed humps at times so gonna get that checked as well. Still under warranty until Jan next year so rather get this all checked out before the warranty expires. £180 for an oil change service seems a bit pricey but probably not a lot more than it would cost getting it done elsewhere where I've previously had services/mot's done but would rather get it all looked at and sorted at the dealers this time whilst still in warranty.
