  1. I have been looking at changing the tyre size on my Skoda Karoq 1.5 Edition TSI for many months now and have had a lot of helpful comments from the team. I have now had fitted 17in Alloy Wheels. These were Silver Alloy type RC from Wheelbasealloys.com. I also purchased as a fitted set Michelin Primacy 4 tyres 215/55/17. Booked my car in for a service and had these fitted by the garage. No problems and I have checked with Skoda on all dimensions and circumferences so they match my speedo readings. Only had a few short rides but the ride is more comfortable-smoother and the ride over a bumpy, rough road more pleasant. Also like the look of the wheels , not much different than before. Total cost to change £1,179 and now to sell my old set of wheels and tyres. They are in very good condition just did not like the ride and at the age of 75 I can choose. Many thanks.
  2. Thanks for all the help. I see two possible options. The easiest one is to change my tyres to All Season tyres, Michelin Cross Climate being one option, which would offer a slightly softer ride. Option two would be a complete wheel change down to R17 (215/55R17 which would cost me for the wheels but make a small saving on tyre replacements. Will feedback my final decision. But now close this topic and thanks for the amazing and helpful info.
  3. Thanks Carlston, now that's really useful and gives me a better understanding also some guide to alternative tyres. I have found that the wheels are expensive and now searching for the right match.
  4. Can I say interesting but to a novice confusing. I had been thinking of reducing my 235/40R19 tyres to give a better ride and consider using a 19in wheel. Still not sure what alternatives I have?
  5. Thanks for all the replies, very helpful. At least I have time now to look around and see what is available. From first look fitting new wheels is expensive and I may go for all weather tyres and a good premium manufactured tyre. Good to know that all this in-depth knowledge is around, the garages and centres are often very unhelpful
  6. Yes I have checked again and the tyres are the originals but the size is 235/40/R19/96W Pirelli Cinturato P7 Thats for making me check again.
  7. I will check the various comments on my Karoq tyres tomorrow. Very helpful. I will also check the printed spec for the suggested tyres. Have now spoken to a Skoda engineer and our local tyre garage. They are quoting about £1600 for a new set of wheels and tyres. Start getting expensive just to change for my comfort and I suppose I also need then to change the get home spare wheel. My car has completed 37k miles and they are the original Pirelli tyres, front getting down to 2.5mm so time to change , back 4.5mm. Thanks guys.
  8. I have read these articles on the problem of 19in tyres. On my Skoda Karoq Edition I have those awful 19in wheels. My tyres size is 235/40R19W93 and I now have both front tyres read to be replaced. I would prefer not to fit new wheels but it seems to get a more comfortable ride I cannot just replaced my Pirelli tyres with another make. I am a reasonable but not fast, fast driver and like comfort and easier travel over bad roads. Any idea of my next step with the tyre change? why does my data show a 225 size for my car but I have 235, could this be because I have an Edition spec Karoq.
  9. Thanks BoxerBoy that seems to be good solution. I have been told by my garage that the replacement solenoid is in and its now booked to be replaced but based on my experience I will watch what happens but seriously consider modifying the lid , its so easy. Cannot understand why these companies don't find a solution to a very trying problem. Wonder how high the bill will be!!!!!!! Thanks to everyone I have learnt a lot.
  10. Hi BoxerBoy,i am beginning to like the idea of taking away the locking action. Not sure what you meant by 'cut away a piece of the lock' which part and how! I have never had fuel taken so don't see the absolute need for the locking device and hate the idea of being stuck with no fuel and waiting 3-4 days for a spare part. But the lid needs to shut well so how do you cup away a piece? Would help me to sleep as well, more so when my wife is on her own in the car.

  12. Thanks for your help. I did try pressing the lid in various places but this did not work also some suggested a short thump but still no result. Tried today and used my fob to lock and unlock fast, many times and its freed the lock. Left the lid open and tried the same action with the fob, locking rod pushed onto lock, and found that it tended to stick but when I used the lock/unlock on the fob at a fast speed it freed the locking every time. Perhaps a new trick if you get stuck.Now need to tape up the lid until next week , don't want it sticking again. Anyway have booked my car in next week for a new fitting Thanks.
  13. I am having problems with my petrol lid sticking on my Karoq 1.5 18reg. My local garage managed to get it open but would not tell me how! they put some lubricant on it and it worked for about a month but now its stuck again. Have ordered new part and they will fix next week. But what would have happened if I had a low tank and away from home. Is there a way of opening in a emergency? I assumed that the lid locks when the car is locked, is this true? I changed over from a Yeti Monte Carlo to this Edition 1.5 Karoq and love the car except for the 19in wheels and Pirelli tyres which seem to pick up every bump in the road. Peter
  14. Thanks Paul will follow up your ideas. Reassuring that the car has such a good reputation, perhaps I just need to hold in there. Tried your ideas on the air conditioning system and all seems ok there, will follow up on the video link you have given to check any possible pipe breaks.
  15. Changed my faithful Verso to a 1.2 petrol Monte Carlo Yeti. Still trying to find out if the 'Monte Carlo' bit means anything except a badge and shaped seats. This is a 66 plate with 23k on the clock. After purchasing with Autotrust warranty from Skoda dealer garage had problems with passengers feeling sick and headaches. Took to dealer and they found signs of rodents under engine plus clogged up filters, cleaned out by garage and now better although still sometimes headache and stale air feeling. Changes tyres to goodyear Efficient 225/50 R17 to improve tyre noise. road holding is much improved but noise on some surfaces higher than last car. Fitted a Acoustic Kit and it helped by 6db but still that deep booming background noise at times. Two months ago one of the injectors split and poured petrol over engine compartment, had to be towed home. All this covered by warranty, which runs out in December. Wondering whether to change car when it runs out in case I have a poor car. All the reviews give the Yeti a good scoring but for me the Verso was more reliable but the Yeti better road holding. Anybody have ideas on how I can improve my Yeti on noise, comfort and check for other faults. Thanks
