  1. Pictures, or it never happened.
  2. I’ll make sure both get done next time.
  3. Got my haldex fluid changed yesterday by an independent local mechanic that came recommended by a transmission specialist (also local) Arrived to drop off car, asked if the fluid change included filter replacement. Mechanic informed me he had been told by Skoda that there was not a filter. We had a short discussion about Haldex and decided he would try to find the filter. The filter did exist! Unfortunately he was Unable to find a new part, again being told it didn’t exist. He informed the local Skoda/VW parts supplier, that it did exist, as he was holding it. The part number was unable to be matched. Anyway, he cleaned it, said it was in pretty good order, matched an o-ring and put it back in place. I think this mechanic has me as a customer for life. Had good google reviews too -Advanced Tech Auto in Canberra (Australia) next Haldex service I will try and find the filter beforehand.
  4. Bloody kangaroos!! Dont have to worry about sump. Guards any more. A lovely live kangaroo decided to jump in front of the car. Now. It's an insurance job. 🀬🀬🀬🀬🀬😠😠😠😠
  5. I agree and will probably move to this size, when I need new tyres. I found that turning on full lock on a steep hill will weight the inside wheel and it does touch the wheel arch. Very rare to be in that position though. will lose about 5mm in tyre sidewall.
  6. My gps and Speedo are in harmony. my fuel economy is averaging 5.8/100km not missing much in poke if I want it.
  7. I went 225/50r17 from 225/40r18 and was astounded. Felt like I was riding on clouds. Can only imagine what 16's are like. Been tempted to get 16's as a winter set. Chains won't fit on mine. Initially I noticed a handling difference, but I don't drive hard enough to care or notice any more.
  8. Yes, so I have found out. For 35yrs I’ve called them sump guards, no matter how flimsy πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™‚οΈ
  9. So, an original from Skoda is $369. I just paid rego, so ready $ are little scarce. In the mean time I have created my own. After 800km its holding up quite well. I might have to add some eva foam for sound dampening. Coreflute Coreflute melts at 170deg My oil temp has never risen over 110deg My engine (water?) temp appears steady at 90deg I bent a strip of aluminium to keep it off the sump and give some rigidity Thats the line of screws down the centre It wont protect the engine from another kangaroo (or will it?), but it will go some way to at least keeping winter road grime out of the engine bay. total cost $24
  10. looks mine is off a a Mk5 R32 (golf I'd presume)
  11. My guard looks like this but some vents. And the little square nipple things are foam.
  12. I ran over a Kangaroo on Monday. It was dead already, very recently hit. I was doing bout 120km passing on designated overtaking lane around an uphill curve, with oncoming traffic. It was dark and I had no option other than to hit it. I have the standard blood splatter, but no obvious physical damage to the front of the car. It felt like we had gone over a ramp, there was thump as we hit, the front of the car lifted then effectively slid over the body and bumped back down onto the road. Examination in daylight revealed that the sump guard has been torn from the rear 3 bolts and is hanging about 7cm off the road. The rest of the undercarriage looks fine. As i said it felt like we just slid over the roo. The underbody bash plates worked a treat. Theres a bit of blood and fur at the front, but everything seems to be ok, and the handling seems fine too. No fluids leaking anywhere. +1 for Skoda build quality. Now, when I bought the car 2nd hand, it went into the Skoda workshop for some repairs and was returned without a sump guard. The workshop denied they had removed it and claimed they didn't have it. A few phone calls with several expletives saw them miraculously find a replacement in amongst some old parts. I've never been convinced that its the right part for the car, and it quite difficult to work out if it is. There seem to be a couple of different options. Does anyone have a part number or image of an original? I My car is a 2014 125kw tdi 4x4 Outdoor like this image
  13. Noise dampening. changing to 17inch wheels helped no end.
  14. That looks 🎡awesome🎡 I wantswun.
  15. Put 17” wheels and 215/50 tyres on it. That’s my tip. Cabin will be a much more pleasant experience.
  16. I’m not likely to change, but if I did it would be to 215/50r17. No way I’m going to 18’s again. I’d only lose 5mm of sidewall, and more than enough to stop scrubbing in the extreme situation. 225/45r17 would lose 11mm
  17. Update - I have found a situation where my 225/50r17 tyres will very lightly scrub the cabin side of the wheel arch. ---- turning facing up a steep hill, steering wheel on full lock. Inside tyre can scrub. On a flat lock turn there is definitely no scrubbing I think this is because the car is weighting the inside of the turn rather than the outside. It's a pretty rare occurrence and even more rarely would it be done at anything more than walking pace, and then you would probably be weighting the outside of the car anyway. If I had Scout type suspension there would be no scrub.
  18. I haven't used 16's, mine came with stock 18's. It was a very weird experience changing to 17's, it was like I was driving on clouds. Initially I could feel the tyre flex, but now don't notice it. I did go, 225/50 Passat standard, instead of the 225/45 Skoda standard, so slightly taller sidewall. The speedo is now also 100% matching gps speed. I also prefer the look of the 17 over the 18
  19. 17’s. On Aussie outback coarse chip and red dust and dirt roads, fantastic
  20. I've gone 225/50r17 which is standard on a Passat and the difference was incredible. Road noise was terrible, now unbelievably better.
  21. Mine got done yesterday. Software update.
  22. Replaced the air filter today. Seems to have done the trick. I feel like an idiot The car had 60000km service 3000km before I bought it, around 12months ago. Just after the Australian bushfires. I presumed they replaced it at the time, given Sydney had some of the worst pollution in the world over that time. Wasn't until I bought the new one that realised how bad the old was. There is no chance it had been replaced. I had assumed it was some fandangled fancy Skoda filter. F##k Skoda dealer mechanics!!!!!!! My car is never going to a dealer mechanic.
  23. Probably no help, but here goes.. I needed both bearings done on mine. It was an oscillating noise. At some speeds the noise was more prevalent near the passenger footwell, at other speeds near top drivers side windscreen. No mechanic believed it’ was the bearings. If you got a slight improvement, maybe you need to do another one. πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™‚οΈ
