Road noise
Hi @DaveMark, I added sound deadening to my doors and popped a little guide with photos here: At a later stage I also added sound deadening to the boot and it helped improve the road noise of the car. I found the linked thread to be really helpful. I hope it may support you in your research tooโฆ

Octavia VRS 126k miles...?
Hello, hope the impeding purchase goes smoothly and will be interested to hear how you get on. I was just going to share that another thing we noticed when looking for our car, was that earlier launch year vRS models had a traditional fully round steering wheel, the slightly later models had a flatter bottom to the wheel. I did find the following link to a 2014 model PDF brochure (which ours is) and hoped it may help you see the trim and options available at this time. https://www.onlymanuals.com/index.php/skoda/octavia/skoda_octavia_sales_brochure_2014_2014_2 Best of luck in the search!

Sound Deadening - anyone added some?

That's a really good point that you make about the warmer weather and I will certainly try to crack on whilst we have some lovely sunshine! I did not break any clips when deadening the doors, but I did purchase a trim removal tool set and this proved invaluable. I also used the steps in the workshop manual (available via a Google search and pasted below) to help me see exactly where the clips on the door cards were located. From memory, the drivers side was more difficult as it had the master window control module to remove which seemed difficult to do without breaking. I also have enclosed a photo of the factory sound deadening - if you can call it that! I was honestly surprised that they thought it was adequate to leave the factory with so little. But then I suppose that VAG must have some differences between the marques. Finally, I thought I would enclose a photo of the area that rattled the most from the lows that the speakers were playing. It was the plastic area I will show below. I actually removed the plastic panel and wrapped the edges with felt tesa tape. That really seemed to improve the seal created between the door panel and the plastic panel and eliminate the remaining rattles after the Dodo deadening was applied. I also removed the module that has connections going in (that you can see in the photo) and tesa taped underneath it, as this also was rattling! I would highly recommend choosing a playlist of songs that you can play once you think you have finished and you can then made sure there are no nasty noises left before you reassemble the door card. I did this, but not well enough! Therefore a week later I had to remove the door card again to chase down a couple of additional rattles that I had not eliminated the first time around. I found the track Ribs by Lorde to be especially demanding of the front door speakers so played this quote loudly with the bass on the head unit EQ set to about +4 to test that I had covered all the rattles and vibrations. I hope this may help and thank you again for the tips on the boot, I'll be trying that very soon!

Thank you very much for your helpful reply. I really appreciate the advice and will absolutely add this to the list of jobs to do - and hopefully in this warmer weather! I can highly recommend applying the deadening to the front doors. It really did surprise me when I took the door card off just how little spud deadening had been applied at the factoryโฆ I suppose this is definitely one area costs were cut over the more โpremiumโ brands of VAG. It was a shame though as it was causing the Canton speakers to massively underperform. I found it really helpful to remove the door cards and then play some tracks on the stereo that feature plenty of low end. This then allowed me to pin point exactly where was vibrating and causing rattles. I found the two removable black plastic inserts (that allow access to the door skin) to be particularly bad for rattling. Hope it goes well if you do decide to take this on, and many thanks again for the pointers.

Sound Deadening - anyone added some?
Hello ๐๐ป, I followed your previous posts with interest as I too have Canton and wanted to improve the sound of the subwoofer as much as possible. I found that sound deadening the front doors had an excellent effect to both the rattle from the speakers and the road noise. I now have a little leftover sound deadening material and wondered if you could share your thoughts on which area most improved the quality of sound from the Canton subwoofer please? From reading your posts, I thought this may be the boot area? Your views would be greatly appreciated, thank you ๐๐ป

Thank you @misor1994 for the images. That is really helpful to see - and know that my car is "normal" and as intended from the factory.

Unusual Panoramic Roof Drainage Channels
Thank you ever so much for your reply and sharing the issues that you had with your sunroof - Iโm so sorry to hear that. Reading some of the Briskoda forum posts with other people that have had issues with the drain design on your car did leave me with a sense of dread... It has also taught be a lesson about options on a car, we desired the heated seats and Canton Sound - which our car had. We then just thought the panoramic roof was an added bonus. However, this could have easily turned out to not be the case! Thank you very much for sharing your experience.

Unusual Panoramic Roof Drainage Channels
Thank you for your reply, itโs ever so reassuring that itโs not just our car that has this design! I too had spent much time searching on this forum for another vehicle like mine, then I turned to Google and still could not find the answer. So thank you @TrinityJay, you have diminished my concerns - at least a little! Can I ask, have you had any issues with leaks or drips? Many thanks

Unusual Panoramic Roof Drainage Channels
Dear Briskoda forumites, Thank you for all of the fantastic information that I have been able to glean about our new family car already. We are the very happy new owners of our '64 (2014) Octavia 2.0 TSi vRS Hatchback. Purchasing it used, it just "happened" to have an option of a panoramic roof fitted, it wasn't something we were looking for. Reading the issues that many have had about the drainage channels of the panoramic clogging (and a small dribble of water appearing from the bonnet release catch), I decided that these channels needed to be investigated. I poured water down the drainage channels and from my reading on the forum, expected the water to drain to the plenum chamber. However, it actually appeared at the top of the windscreen and made it's way down the side of the windscreen ... I decided to remove the A-pillar to investigate further. The attached images are what I foundโฆ. I could not see the green drainage pipes that others unclogged. As I mentioned, our is a '64 plate and I wondered if perhaps there was a design change at some point in the life of the MKIII, or perhaps if it is something to do with being the hatch and not the estate version. Any feedback, ideas or suggestions on the lack of drainage channels would be greatly appreciated. I do have a hardwired dash-cam that I have installed and this is the black cable you may have noticed running alongside the wiring loom in the A pillar. Thank you very much

Jump start incorrect
I too was unsure why a bump start is a not advised. We recently had to call out our breakdown due to not being able to start our previous car. I asked the question of the breakdown man, he advised that from his understanding itโs really not good for a dual mass flywheels health to be jumpstarted. Iโm not sure how much truth his comments have, but as our previous car was needing a DMF soon, Iโm glad we didnโt take the risk in bump starting. I hope that may help - and Iโm sure someone will correct me if the breakdown gentleman was incorrect ๐๐ป

Bolero MIB1 Update Help Please!
Hello ๐๐ป to all on Briskoda, I wonder if I can ask for some help please. We have recently purchased our first ever Skoda. Itโs impressed us so far being a vRS 2.0 TSI Manual. Iโve posted in the welcome forum to say hello and hopefully itโs now okay to ask for some help and advice please. One area Iโm really keen for some help please is for the Bolero MIB1 radio. Iโve done as much searching as I can using the search tool but the threads that appear are not having replies to their messages for help - hence me starting a new topic. Iโve attached an image containing the details of the software we have now. From my reading, I believe there is a 0490 update available? Having the Canton system and from my reading it appears this latest update may help improve the sound quality somewhat? Iโd really appreciate the help of any forum members that may be able to support please. Iโve seen the kind member @BATVANVRS helping others and it would be lovely if you could offer some help at all. Thank you for being a friendly and informative forum to join and learn with ๐

Hello from Wales...
Hi to the Briskoda community ! My wife and I are looking for a new car as we need a five door as an upgrade to our current three door Audi A3. Wanting to stick to the VAG group and have test driven an Octavia vRS 2017 TSi and really like the practically and comfort, whilst coupled with relative sportiness. Joining the forums to try and gain an insight into what to look out for when on the hunt for an Octavia. Thank you for reading my post and being there as a community to turn to
